Did you actually read what I said? I clearly stated I disagreed with the principle that a midfield be judged on the ability to get out of a UCL group. City's failure to qualify from their group wasn't because of their midfield was it

Yes I did read what you said. Stating you disagree with the principle is one thing but trying to justify it with your comment about City's failure to qualify is either not relevant (if the strengths of the groups are not equal) or it's a comparison between the 2 groups, which you said you weren't doing.

For what it's worth, I agree that it's near impossible to put any sides failure down to one part of their team. I'd have justified that opinion better than you did though. For example you could have pointed to the fact that you got to the CL final last year with an equally poor midfield :p

You clearly have not watched any City games this year if you are picking Barry and Milner as the worst midfielders in any of the top 5 midfields in the prem.

So far rebuilding Man Utd to compete with the best in Europe is a fail, the only way to do it properly is get some of the best midfielders in Europe in Man Utd.

I just dont get how Man Utd are 2nd this year and how they were up there last year. Either everyone else is that bad or they are lucky or maybe they are better than people seem to think...?

Honestly, the worst player's in their for me are Barry, Milner and Mikel and i'd still take them over Michael Carrick, Ji Sung Park and Ryan Giggs (He's well over the hill)

I just don't see why we can't invest in top class midfield talent, where every other team is.

I can easily imagine that Fergie has been rubbing his hands over the £12m he got (back) from Chelsea for Mikel, who has been distinctly average over the period since his move.

Reasonable mid table squad player - but not really anything to shout about

Giggs is as near to being over the hill as Lamps - and he is 5 years older lol

And i was waiting for that tom, thank you :) proof you talk utter crap all week long, you just compared:

Group A: Bayern, Napoli, Manchester City and Villareal

to

Group C: Benfica, Basel, Man Utd and Galati

A group in which City probably should have qualified from despite it being their first ever Champions League campaign.

And I talk tosh...

And which team recently had to write off nigh on £350m over two seasons..........yes Man City.....and they STILL didnt qualify

What's your first choice midfield? For Arsenal, I guess it'd be Ramsey/Wilshere/Song (with one of them possibly swapped out for Arteta), which is pretty mint.

Its a complete guess because of the short time Cleverley was available before his injury - but probably Cleverley and Carrick / Jones , who havent even played together yet (certainly nowhere near Ramsey /Wilshere amounts - which in itself is pretty new)

God knows. I think Arsenal's midfield has potential but at the current moment in time ours is stronger and more experienced.

I thought he was saying that the midfields, as a whole, are better.

The post of mine which you quoted includes a quote from him where he clearly implies he believes every player he listed is better individually. He then goes on to list the individual qualities of some of the players in his next post.

I'd obviously agree with your perception that in terms of options/depth the other sides are better off that much is a given but that's not what he was saying.

I'd say it would be Nani--Carrick--Cleverley--Young. Very arguable case can be made for dropping Young for Valencia based on current form though.

I know you weren't asking me but what the hell :p

Arsene Wenger is looking to sign a left-back on loan after Kieran Gibbs suffered a setback in his recovery from hernia surgery and Manchester City's Wayne Bridge could be on his list.

:D :D :D :D Do it Arsene!

How I read it too for what it's worth.

I do like Arsenal's midfield  Cesc who?

Arsenal's midfield has impressed me quite a lot this season, especially considering they are missing Wilshere.

They all seem to have an understanding, and I think Arteta has been a great addition just because of his experience, and willingness to help the team in anyway.

Still would like Cesc in there like, but it's definitely working very well for how Arsenal are trying to play this season. :)
