Some more Arsenal rumours courtesy of Daily Fail...Inter are looking to sign RVP in Jan lol...couldnt make this shizz up even if you tried:p

Also Cahill is now being targetted by Chelsea...another Mata situation there but i dont think Arsenal will sign him sadly.

But we are linked with some german wunderkid called Marco Reus who plays for Borussia...seems to be a good prospect.

Theoretically MU shouldn't need to buy a defender since they have:

Evra
Fabio
Rio
Vidic
Jones
Evans
Rafael
Smalling

That means they are covered in all positions.

Depends if you think that playing centre backs out of position at RB is a feasible solution for the (or one of) the richest clubs in the world really doesnt it?

Sure they havent done badly, but its not like we have Micah Richards in there trampling over people. We have lightweight RB and LB options.
fergie has shown his lack of trust in Rafael and Fabio by choosing to play smalling or Oshea ahead of them on occasion this and last season when we played teams with height.

That we need a capable defensive midfielder who can tackle, pass and shield a ball must be apparent to everyone. You can then pair him with either Ando, Cleverly or Fletcher. But he must be a standout DM player who can do all of the above./

We could do with a David Silva type player but there is nobody I can think of.

Realistically we probably won't buy anybody.

Theoretically MU shouldn't need to buy a defender since they have:

Evra - Losing it more and more Doesn't get injured often
Fabio - Made of glass Not that long back from injury
Rio - Getting on a bit, but still first choice In and out of the medical room
Vidic - Heman Not long back from injury
Jones - A great option, no problems
Evans - Shouldn't be ahead of Smalling / Jones, has his moments
Rafael - Same as his brother, glass Just back from a long lay off
Smalling - Coming along well as well as Jones Injured

That means they are covered in all positions.

The only two that don't usually get injured are Evra and Vidic. Jones / Smalling are pretty good usually too. When Fab/Raf/Rio/Evans/Anyone else gets injured at any one time, which is quite often, we are left short.

Theoretically MU have Rafael and Fabio as RBs so playing CBs there should only happen as backup. If Fergie chooses to do so when they are fit then presumably it is because he thinks it is feasible.

Plenty of rich/good clubs have done similar things in the past, Chelsea (effectively richest club in the world at the time) played Gallas at LB quite often for example and won back-to-back league titles doing so, all time record points haul, seemed pretty feasible to me :)

Well Fabio is a left footed left back covering the right back slot when he was needed to do so.

Who is our first choice Rb who will play every game as a RB? Like Evra who plays pretty much every game subject to injury or fatigue rotation? In the big and tough games we tend not to play the Rafbio twins - as i said opting for taller players instead. To my knowledge Fergie dropped Rafael against City in feb 11 for oshea and pn another couple of occasions too.

Gallas may have played there on occasion - but with the signing of Cole the need was alleviated. I am asking who we will sign to fix this issue or actually promote rafael as the defacto RB in our team for ALL the big games..?

We have 3 fullbacks covering 2 positions. We really do need another.

Buy a right back, let Smalling and Jones play in the centre where they belong and ship Evans out if possible.

Yes a good experienced one ideally. As i say i dont think we have a definitive no.1 right back who is currently world class. I like Rafael and Fabio but for me they should both be second choice to Evra and another at RB, for the next year or so, playing at weekend after Champs League matches etc.

Ship evans out and then sink the boat. Get Smalling and Jones working together as a partnership wherever possible.

Will be interesting to see what plays Chelsea sign. Certainly a need for defence strengthening and possible midfielder. Hopefully essien will be back to add defence cover in future.

was this originally started about the FB from Valencia......alba? Meant to be very good (and capped with the national squad although very short, 5"3 or something

Even though he has played at RB, I think Fabio was originally meant to be a LB replacement for Evra

Bit harsh to say Rafael is made of glass (although I would unfortunately agree about his brother) , he has made 80 appearances - nearly double - or so in the same time frame or something like that

As Fergie has said recently - Utd need a consistant back four to help stop all the chances from happening in the first place, imo currently that should be

Raf Jones/Smalling Vidic Evra

1) Rio and Fabio are too injury prone to be relied upon consistantly

2) Evans will never be good enough

3) Utd need to look for a replacement for Evra (who is getting slower and slower, and not being as penetrating in the final 1/3 as he has been)

Wild rumours that Vidic may be sold in the summer - who knows if thats even close to the truth, but IF that is the case Utd will need another centre half

Hmm... I can see Almunia certainly being allowed to leave on a free, Mannone will probably end up signing a contract but getting loaned out. The uncertainty lies around Fabianski, does Wenger keep him? Fabianski knows he's getting hardly any pitch time with Szczesny now the firmly established #1. He's what, 26 or something? He's still young for a GK but he's not going to waste his youth sitting on the bench when he feels he can play a part in a team.

Rosicky is probably someone that Wenger will want to keep around, he feels that the squad has a good mixture of youth and experience what with the additions on deadline day, I'm sure Rosicky would agree to a new contract but he is getting on a bit and we know what Arsene is like when it comes to offering contracts to OAP's.

Out of those on the Bosman list I'd like to see us make a move for Cahill, not only will he help with the homegrown quota but he'd be a handy player for us. The defence has sorted it's act out slightly in the last few games, they'd need a while to gel as a unit and I don't think Wenger has worked out his best CB pairing though for my money it simply has to be Vermaelen and Koscielny who's been outstanding lately with a string of really solid performances. If Vermaelen can stay fit then these two could be the pillars of our defence for years to come.

I'm still not totally convinced about Mertesacker, virtually no pace or mobility and considering he's 16 feet tall he doesn't half miss some simple headers, also seems to spend more time on the floor than he does on his feet, which isn't particularly pleasing. Santos I think will come good, give him time, he has the quality, we all saw him nutmeg Cech which was pretty hilarious in all honesty. :D

He's always going to be one of these fullbacks who overlaps a lot and likes to get forward, but he definitely needs to be more disciplined and a bit smarter when choosing to make an attacking run or whether to stay back. I've not seen how he's playing lately but maybe we should go for Bosingwa if his wage demands aren't ridiculous, Jenkinson is doing a good job considering the stage he was at this time last season, but he's far from the finished article and he needs help from an experienced player in order to aid his development process. With Sagna out for ages it wouldn't be a bad move to bring in and experienced right back such as Bosingwa.

Of course I'd love for us to sign Berbatov but it's never going to happen in a million years and I don't think he'd suit our style of play anyway.

van der sar has chipped in and said that we need to fix our midfield and stop playing long ball football. i don't know if we really can play another way without doing something radical here.

my thought was always to embrace it or at least make the most of it with a big target man up front.

if you saw the absolute chaos that yakubu created at weekend on multiple occasions when he literally ploughed the oppositions defence yes i lolled when he took out 2 defenders and the keeper... i mean something like that but with someone who can shoot...

Rumors of NDJ stalling on a new contract, no surprise given his agent is Kia.

Would be sad to see him go but isn't irreplaceable and if he isn't willing to drop I assume huge demands and Kia as his 'advisor' then Mancini might look at selling him. Especially considering how fantastic the midfield is playing.

This would be awful. There aren't many players in the world who are irreplaceable but De Jong is someone I really did want to see his career out at City. No surprise on the talk of City wanting to sever all ties with Kia though. Further wouldn't be surprised if De Jong is offered a new contract under the proviso he gets rid of him. Kia isn't his agent though, he's not allowed to be one. He just apparently offered him some advice about his worth.

I don't think its just about severing ties with Kia, its also that Mancini doesn't want to have players who demand what they want. Mancini completely leaving Nige out of QPR showed this.

I think iit would be a shame to see him go but I trust Mancini will make the correct decision.

United (man) wont be signing anyone is Jan so forget it. Fergie will not sign cup tied players so unless they are young and not playing in the CL then he will not even consider it.

Should have signed someone in the midfield last summer but cant spend silly money
