** January Transfer Window 2011/12 Season Rumours/Signings **

His performances justify a pay rise but his injury situation mean it's only sensible that he's on a heavily weighted appearance related deal.

Giving him any sort of contract was a gamble but the gamble has paid off. It hasn't with Marveaux though :p

Marvaeux did seem good little player but we knew the risk we were taking :p:rolleyes:

Any idea's how long he is out for?

Rumours Simpson is really agitating for a payrise now or he will want out in January as his contract is up in the summer I think. Personally I would cash in when we could because Santon is coming through well and Peters is available. I like Simpson but he is too big headed if he thinks a "bigger" club will want him. ManU? (Smalling, Rafael) No. ManC? (Richards) No. Liverpool (Johnson) Perhaps. Spurs (Walker) NO! Arsenal (Sagna) NO! Chelski (Bosingwa) No. There is no one else bigger than Newcastle in the premier and perhaps only QPR who would pay silly money to attract players, everyone else is a lot more sensible. He would turn into another Bernard/Faye/Zogbia who left for "better" things and ended up average at average/**** clubs. (Not that we are great these days but outside the top 6 we are arguably the most attractive club)

Jones? Jury is still out on that one. The more you come to expect from him, the worse he performs.

No offense meant in this one mate as I'm still finding my feet but didn't you champion the signing of N'zogbia for Man United (unsure if you support them or not?)

I think you need to remember that Phil Jones is still only 19 and has just joined a far better team than the one he left, you seem overly critical of a kid that is basically 6 months into playing for his new team. From what I have seen of him, he is an excellent addition to any team.

Didn't Simpson come from Manchester United to Newcastle? If he wasn't good enough the first time round I doubt he is now, that is also the reason I expect he wouldn't go to Man City.

Simpson is a decent player in my opinion, hasn't he been one of the most consistent performers for Newcastle this season? For that reason alone they should be thinking about giving him a payrise :)

I still think that nzogbia is a talented player. Im sure i saw him nearly break someone's post in two the other day...playing for villa isn't a great way to enhance your credentials though.

In other news, people are saying the Scholes thing was because we missed out on frankard.

seriously if that's as ambitious that fergie is going to get he might as well step down now.

Was no one watching the interview after the city game left as bewildered as i was.

'saf - can you build momentum from this win?'

'no the second half was chaos...'

Kind of like the first half vs blackburn¿ why was it chaos literally minutes after injecting Scholes to the play¿ because Scholes was heavily involved in creating the city goal perhaps¿ because you keep playing people in the wrong position¿ because the combined age of giggsy and Scholes adds up to 75?

How about looking oneself in the mirror and taking one on the chin as opposed to blaming all and sundry for your own mistakes.

N'Zogbia is shocking every time I have seen him play bar a few decent performances for Newcastle and a good season for Wigan, again no offense but if he was better than those kinds of teams he would be playing for one. I fear it's more of a case of he's found his level with the likes of Wigan and Villa.

That's without his off the field attitude problems he seems to carry around with him.

I saw the whole Scholes introduction (and later Anderson) as a way of United keeping the ball, they were 1-3 up and needed to see the game out. Who would you have brought on that would have done that better than Scholes? He lost the ball a couple of times but you can hardly blame the old fellow for that, he's not played for 6 months!

Off topic, but why is this paragraph dotted with upside down question marks?

I have to agree with you though, I thought it was a wierd thing to come out with! Not exactly moral building and probably best kept behind closed doors.

Oops i had the wrong icon set selected posting from my phone.

honesty fergie looked old. he didn't stammer, but he sounded a bit disjointed and slow. Im not picking on him but i don't think he is as sharp as he was 5-10 years ago and it's telling.

Who was played in the wrong positions? I don't remember anyone playing out of position apart from Richards?

Would it have been better if Alex F had answered the question with "Yes, I think we can kick on, win the league and rival Barcelona as the best team in the world"

I imagine people would have come out said he has lost his mind, he is openly honest about the second half display and gets roasted for it :D

Wrong positions? Lets start with blackburn. Im sure we had Rafael in center midfield? Valencia has played right back. Jones at right back. Nani on the wrong wing? Please don't make a scene by pretending that this has not been a frequent occurance of recent times.

how many times did beckham or Ronaldo play rb ? Did Gary Neville interject himself into midfield? I was surprise to see smalling at cb. how many times has he played there this season?

We have no definitive team/shape/consistency.

I thought the exact same thing. 70 years old, he's getting on a bit... and he wants to do another 3 years!

Oh apologies, I thought we were talking about the Man City v United game after which he was asked the question that you're moaning about.

I'm not making a scene at all but from what I read there were no fit midfielders to play in the centre against Blackburn, hence why he had to play people out of position. What a United team of 10 years ago has to do with anything I don't know but for the purpose of the conversation I will indulge.

From what I remember (and I'm getting old) United had one of the most settled teams in back in those days, I seem to remember Neville being ever present which would have meant Beckham/Ronaldo didn't need to drop into right back. I also remember Beckham playing in the centre a few times when Keane/Scholes were suspended. That kind of things happen if you have players who can slot in to a position to cover.

I also think it has something to do with the fact that he may well be trying to turn Smalling and Jones into specialist centre backs whilst also being excellent utility players if need be, you know the type, those ones that can fill in for injured players like right backs! If Rafael/Fabio are injured and Smalling/Jones can play there and gain forst team experience while doing so is that not a good thing? Or would you prefer for managers to panic and go and blow 10-15 million on a right back for coverage reasons?

Perhaps? No chance! He's one of the best fullbacks in the league and has a fantastic deputy in Kelly.

I'd rather have Kelly than Johnson and personally I would probably pick Simpson over Johnson. Not a fan of Johnson at all, just my opinion though :)

Looking forward for someone to come along and tap up a Spurs player now and watch Harry cry that its unfair people tapping up players. He's horrific for it the gormless little ****

I always liked Simpson when he was at United, the arrival of the twins ultimately ended his United career but given the power of hindsight and the fact that neither of the twins can make it through 90 minutes without suffering a 2/3 week injury I'd of liked us to had a little more faith with him. Local lad as well.

For what it's worth I think he's been the best RB in the league this season. Loves a goal line clearance against us though, not so much against Liverpool though - what's that about Danny? :p

Okay in the city game where did Jones play? Did Nani get switched to his weaker flank?

Are any of our rb as good as micah Richards? If not it means we did something wrong. Does Jones look comfortable at rb? In midfield? No he looked absolutely awful against city he literally could not have put a foot worse. I can't remember what minute it was possibly near 70 when someone passes him the ball to the line. instead of getting the ball he tried a little flick thinking he was the big man around campus, ball goes out for a city throw. thanks v much Jones. that was exactly what we did not need.
