I know it's hardly out of the blue but Cahill better than Alex? Really? Strange signing for Chelsea (even though I'm fully aware they're short in defence)

Better than the Alex of today? Yes but more important, he's also better suited to playing the way Villas Boas wants to play and he's younger.

I think he's good but not nearly good enough to start for Chelsea at CB if they want to push for the title, CL etc. Think the only benefit over Alex is, as you say, that he's Engrish.

I like Cahill and it's nice to see him given a chance. We'll see whether he improves, I think he can become a CL level player, or at least a very handy squad option

Apparently PSG have bidded for Ba?!

Prpb the only club with the money to take a chance on him.

Newcastle have said that it would cost over 20million to land him, insurance, agents fees, sign on fee then the buyout clause. The agent fee alone for him on a free was 4-5million when we signed him

If the bid is true Mevlüt Erdinç could be heading the other way.

and other rumours Carrol been offered to Newcastle for 25mill. The Newcastle have offered 15m lol

Lots of rumours around that Andy Carroll will return to Newcastle for £10m -£15m.

do people really think Liverpool will take a 20-25 million loss in 1 season?

they may loan him out..but no way they will want to lose out by that amount of money

and at that price there will be more clubs willing to take a chance

They can have him, if that means we can get Torres back for £5 million!

Even if Liverpool wanted shot of him, how many Chelsea/City players have we seen happy to sit around on a huge wage, waiting for their contracts to run out before going off and signing a new contract at some other club.

Just because Liverpool want him out doesn't mean he'll go. If Newcastle won't give him over 40k a week(I think that would be generous for an out of form striker at Newcastle, very generous) then he can sit back and get rich at 90k a week at Liverpool, he doesn't have to leave, he has a contract, they can't force him out.

It could take an extra 10mil drop just to cover an extra 2mil a year wages for a 4 year contract, even then Newcastle would be asking for big trouble with squad unrest at the pay disparity.

Then the last killer blow, even at 10mil and 50k a week, he's still be likely on more cash, and cost 2-3 times as much as Ba did.

There are ALWAYS fantastic deals on players in any position. There isn't ever a need to go out and splash the cash on who is well known and costs a lot more. There are maybe 3 players around who are literally unmatched in quality and effectiveness and you'd pay through the teeth to get them, other players, not so much.

I mean for every 20-30mil striker being signed you can see several 5-10mil players who were better signings. Kompany, Cesc(to Arsenal), Ba, Tiote, Cabaye, Guti, RVP.

Newcastle would be stupid to buy him at this point for almost any price due to his wage demands and the problems with getting him and frankly the type of person he is that they were trying to get rid of from Newcastle.

Liverpool would probably be daft to look to sell him, they've got key games coming up and making out to the player he's unwanted while you've got him or no one else to play is just stupid.

Good points dm.

I would take him back but it would need to be 10-15mill transfer fee and he would need to accept that he would have to fit back into the Toon pay structure. Neither of which will happen as LIverpool would not drop so low and I doubt Carroll would.
