January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

Newcastle are to confirm the signings of striker Yoan Gouffran (£1.25m) and defender Massadio Haïdara (£2m) today.

Nice additions to the squad! Hopefully Gouffran can offer something off the bench late on in a game.

Heard on the radio that Hooper was wanted by Norwich and a.n.other. 6 mil bid rejected. Also, apparently Arsenal are after Cesar from QPR.

Wanyama would be a good signing I reckon, doubt it will happen though.

Do I really need to spell it out? What has cm added to this thread other than aggro and childish trolling, wading in hours after I made my original posts in order to go on the wind up?

He doesn't read what people post and he doesn't contribute anything of interest so what is the point in having him on a DISCUSSION forum? Even cheets wasn't this bad, although he wasn't banned for his posts in here anyway.

(and for the record it still reads as though a comparision was being made - less personal insults from the usual suspects would be helpful)

Obviously a comparison was being made. The point was cm was trying to claim I was arguing that Welbeck was better than Balotelli which I (and others) have pointed out numerous times was not the case.

He could have thought it funny to be comparing 2 players who fulfill entirely different roles. Like comparing milner to nani. Both effective at different things but not really comparable.

/Devil's advocate hat off.

Except they play identical roles, either wide left or as one of the central forwards.

Arsenal really do need to start adding quality to the side. Newcastle have signed every French player under the sun yet arsene can't get one guy through the door. It really is depressing.

Newcastle have bought loads of players from the french league for around 2 mil a pop. Hardly screams quality. We really do need to buy someone though, new right back if he's not going to play Jenkinson, a combative midfielder and a proper striker will do for me.

Add a left sided winger to that too. Apart from Podolski, all we have is The Big Forehead. Arshavin is on his way out this summer. Carzola is wasted on the left as shown in the first half against Chelsea and if I see Ramsey start on the wings again, I think I'll cry.

Tbh we're lacking in all areas of the squad.

Okay, I'll correct my post

Tbh we're severely lacking in all areas of the squad.

;)

After Sunday's game I can't see how Wenger can keep Jenkinson on the bench. That peformance from Sagna was one of the worse performances I've seen this season. It looks like he just doesn't care anymore. Time to get rid.

Not sure if i'm too fussed about a midfielder. I would like to see Coquelin given more games in the DM role and rotate Arteta, Jack and Santi a bit more. Our attacking options is the key area to improve though. Against Chelsea all we had was Arshavin on the bench and to be fair to him, how is he going to change a game when he's hardly kicked a ball this season. Sad times

I think most people would describe Wilshire as a combative midfielder, he's owned Yaya on several occasions so strength/size isn't an issue, likewise Arteta for a couple years at Everton played a more DM like role, and has done so pretty well for Arsenal. The question is if we buy an out and out DM, who doesn't play, Santi and Wilshire play with the new guy in behind them, then Arteta, one of our best players is left out in the cold, play Wilshire in the Santi role, personally I think he has more of the drive and power needed that Santi lacks. Wilshire steps up when the team are playing bad and tries to drive the team forward, wins the ball back, Santi disappears.

As for 2 mil a pop, I'll point out Michu, not as the be all and end all but, money has no bearing on quality, money is only effected by media popularity, most fans in England barely watched Kaka yet were convinced off a few CL games that he was one of the best in the world, Real fans thought the same, what they got was a different story.

IF you look at say the best 20 transfers a season, only a few go over 20mil, most are pretty cheap the only problem is finding them, which our scouts haven't been doing for some time now.

Wenger made a comment about Diame being a possible target because he can really impose himself on games, and mentioned the Chelsea game as a factor. Problem is those without blinkers will see Diame is a unfit pratt, who fouls a lot, does throw himself about a lot, but only for 30 mins then he's toast, he was most effective in one game because he came on at half time and had his one really good game of the season, even then most of what he did was Diaby like, midfield to the box, run and keep the ball no problem, get to the box, shoot... its crap, pass.... its crap, I've seen zero end product from him and one decent half.

It really makes me wonder how much some managers/scouts see of a player before they sign them, fair enough does Wenger have time to watch 10 games for 10 players every week, no, but maybe someone should point out our current scouts are clearly dog turd.

If someone at the club watches 20 Gervinho games, and cherry picks one for Wenger to watch and tells him he's like that every game... I can understand why he might get bought. But Giroud, Gervinho, Diame... and I'm thinking more and more for 17mil Santi, just aren't good enough, someone at the club is making very poor choices.

As with the weird Utd fans who think a new keeper might be the best way to pee their money away, we've got far more important places to strengthen than central midfield, fullbacks are the single biggest priority, by a mile. A better left back would not only help defensively, it would help offensively as well, more shape to the team, better interplay and someone who can actually cross.

After fullbacks, its wingers, after wingers, its probably still a striker, and then and only then I would consider spending money in central midfield. There seems to be more and more talk that Sagna wants a big money deal, that Arsenal aren't interested and we could let him walk at the end of the year... fair enough, but if that is the case, why are we giving Jenks so little playing time, ultimately even if he thinks Sagna is better, he's got to rely on Jenks next year so why not give him playing time now so he won't start next season having not really played for 8-9 months.

I see no reason why Fergie would want Reina. He has been very error prone over the past couple of seasons and why would he want another keeper prone to making errors? I think De Gea has the potential of becoming a very good keeper but with young age and lack of experience, especially for keepers, comes the odd error which often leads to goals being conceded.

Yeah, I think so. Unless of course we were going to pay a fortune for Reina, which we wouldn't.

I think there are two reasons RVP went to Utd, he's a top player, best striker in the league, and has spent years trying to win the EPL, and also has a settled life in the UK, ultimately moving to a EPL title contender allows him to eventually leave England having won the title, and keeps his life relatively the same, kids in the uk, etc.

Reina pretty much fills all the same situations, he's been here, he's been considered the best keeper in the league on many occassions yet hasn't won the league, has been here ages, has a life here. Moving to Real would mean a huge change in his families life, and leaving the EPL without having won what he really wanted to win. So can I see him going to Utd, I can, if Fergie decides to cave to crowd/media pressure and drop De Gea. Considering he does keep dropping De Gea, and considering he seems in my mind to have stopped playing Berbatov because the fans decided he was lazy... I think its fully possible.
