January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

By Scholes' replacement I assume you mean positionally?

What exactly have I said that's unfair?

I'll be honest some of the stuff you come out with on this forum really boggles the mind...

Maybe I'm looking too deep into that quote, but this forum is full of people with snide insinuations towards players/clubs. (And yes I'm aware of who you support ha)

If so, apologies

the 23-year-old midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a six-and-a-half year deal at St. James' Park and will wear the number seven shirt.

6... 6... 6... 6.. SIX and a half year contract?!

Do Newcastles lawyers know something everyone else doesn't or are they just expecting his value to rocket after a couple of years?

I pity the first team that has to deal with Cabaye/Sisoko/Tiote in the middle.
Bruises are guaranteed!!!!

I *think* these sort of long term contracts (like Pardew's for instance) are to help with FFP, tax and other accounting issues as let's say he cost £6.5m then that's only £1m a year for those purposes. I don't know the exact details for it but I believe it softens the blow :)
Baz might know, he's an accountant.

Newcastle are being brave buying a whole new team. It didn't work out too well when qpr did it in the summer. Didn't they buy something like 11 new players?

Surely the players there aren't going to be too happy.

I've given up hope of wenger signing anyone.
These are players who have been linked with Newcastle for a while and that should have been bought in the summer to give us even the slightest bit of depth, so not exactly panic buys.

The likes of Sammy Ameobi, Ranger, Amalfitano, Gosling; should be no where near the first team right now.

I never said they were panic buys but bringing that amount of different people into a new club in a new country isn't going to be easy for them to gel quickly. Especially in the middle of the season.

Heard Wengers latest rant? Apparently he has called for the January window to be closed in his press conf this morning.

Surely he can't damn the transfer and say its unfair on teams then go and spend money in it. Sounds like we are done for the transfer window and are now chasing Europa cup...

Diaby, rosicky and gervinho are like new signings though aren't they? Lol

Doesn't surprise me when he's coming out with things like that...just goes to show that Wenger and Arsenal board don't really give a **** about signing decent players because boo hoo hoo teams like city and Chelsea have completely messed up the transfer windows in the past with their insane transfer fees.

Who gives a toss, Arsenal can splash the cash but they won't because all they are worried about is profits.

He also suggested it should be limited to 2 transfers. Hopefully that's what he is planning (at a minimum!!!)

Like I said above, even if it's limited to 2 players it won't make a difference as he will sign and couple of utter rubbish players.

Man is just jealous because Newcastle have probably signed the players he was interested in:p...If that's true then still not good enough Wenger...need more quality players in the side.

HOLD THE PHONE. Fulham have signed someone.

Frimpong joined on loan from Arsenal. Is he out of contract end of season?

Who knows...at the moment that's all we can do...offload the crap players on loans.
Can't sell them off as no one wants them lol.

Woah forgot all about him, what's he been up to?

He had a long term injury I think and just didn't get near the Arsenal team. Fairly unproven in terms of the league, but he looked very good at Wolves. Fulham need that type of player too in the mould of Diarra. 6 month loan and I assume first option on him. Only 21 too.

Just a shame we have to put up with the DENCH crap he goes on about :p

It'll spread the cost of the transfer fee over a longer period (not necessarily in real terms but in accounting terms) but thats about it and given the size of the fee, i cant see the point of it from a ffp point of view. There's no ffp benefit to Pardews contract though.

edit: I wrote the above on my phone earlier. To explain a bit more - the FFP benefit of spreading Sissoko's fee over 6 years rather than, for example, 4 years would be tiny (roughly £200k per year). There's no way Newcastle are going to give Sissoko a guarantee of an extra 2 years wages for the sake of saving £200k on the next 4 years accounts.

I can only imagine he's on fairly low wages and Newcastle are confident that they'll have no problem shipping him off if he fails and by tying him down for 6 years they'll be in a decent bargaining position if he's a hit and bigger clubs come in for him.

Some words on buying french players and some words about Cabaye from Pardew

"It's not where we want to go. We want to make our own players, but the truth is the players from the academy we put in haven't produced.

"I'm hoping it's too early for them, and that Sammy (Ameobi), Shane Ferguson, James Tavernier and Adam Campbell come through. They need to, because we can't keep buying players.

"If you can't learn about being a person and a footballer from Yohan Cabaye, then you shouldn't be a footballer. The guy gives you everything.

"He's not a local boy, he's not from London or Manchester - he's from France. It's about good players and that's what the Newcastle's fans want.

"The game has changed, the English game is morphing into the European game. There's more thinking, the passion and the speed is often tweaked up for the Premier League."
