People say whatever is on their mind at the time, think about it and change their mind.
Of course he was talking about at the time a team with like 3 English guys in it, was that before we had Ramsey and Wilshire, so it was basically Walcott and, I can't remember who else off the top of my head. He didn't have a point but a team with 11 frenchies and 14 other players in the squad + youth players with a bunch of them English isn't really comparable to a team with like 1 or 2 English guys in... for the sake of that point. In reality, its a stupid point, English, French, German, who cares, football is football, I watch the game, not the passports of the players.
As for FFP, Newcastle won't have any trouble, sure 6.5 years means the roughly 6.5mil fee is amortised over the length of the contract but 1mil or, 1.5mil on a shorter contract, these aren't sums that will screw Newcastle. If they lose cash at this stage it will be very small amounts, WELL under the limit you'd be allowed, and things like being sensible having a plan, showing efforts to get finances under control all count, things Newcastle have done extremely well in lately.
Who knows why the longer contract, potentially to make a better case for a higher fee when he's sold. I don't know ultimately longer contracts give the club more negotiating power, and players seem less willing to sign such long contracts, I don't know if thats a good or bad sign, IE player knows he ain't good enough, and got the longest deal he could because he knows he'll be found out kinda thing, where as a player who thinks Newcastle is a stepping stone has more options in a few years with a shorter contract. Huge deals are pretty rare these days.
newts, you got a list of players for Newcastle who would count towards the 8 homegrown? I imagine you have 8 but, without a heck of a lot of quality. This is ultimately why Zaha's, Walcotts are going for so much, its pretty easy to go find 17 decent players when you have the whole world to choose from, but getting the last 8 from a very limited pool of players being trained in the "English" way, (run hard, kick them, lose

). Its all very well jumping on deals for frenchies, but at some stage to be really good you need to either get some younger players coming through very very quickly, some very young foreign kids signed asap or you end up spending big on English talent. I'm trying to think of a single English player you've got whose worth keeper, Ameobi's, nope, Simpson, closest to being worth it as back up, most likely to leave AFAIK. Williamson... lol.
