January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

cm have you ever seen this kid play? I'm guessing you haven't, in which case, how can you comment on the price you paid?

i think i saw him play against wolves if memory serves me right but that was only a highlights package, nowhere near enough to make a judgement.

i don't actually know how much he went to liége for but i doubt it was much and the £6m was obviously inflated from a tribunal. couple this with the fact he's not going into our first team and naughton is playing lb, BAE is injured, rose is on loan, i feel maybe the money (thought it's not silly money) may have been used better elsewhere. eg, if porto said they wanted £25m for moutinho, and we were only willing to go to £22m again.

I would have sympathy for Ferguson but IMO pricing players out of the market so that league rivals won't buy them (or will get robbed in doing so) is not in the spirit of the game either.

I don't know the details of this deal but it looks like Ferguson demanded £6m for Spurs to sign him knowing full well that Fryers would probably go abroad for peanuts if a deal wasn't made.

Might suggest you know the details before posting. As it has been pointed out, what we valued Fryers at didn't matter as a fair value would have been decided independently.

Also, the comments on pricing players out of the market so that rivals don't buy them couldn't be further from the truth. For a start, Spurs aren't a rival. :p In addition, we are terrible at selling players for what they are actually worth.

Edit: also it's fair to say the £6m figure is not what United expected to receive for Fryers, but it was the value to negotiate down from. I expect a tribunal would have found a medium between United's valuation of £6m and Spurs of £3m.

can't see what the fuss is about. united are getting 5% :p

Tottenham have defended the deal they agreed with Fryers and a club spokesman said: "Zeki Fryers was out of contract in the summer. We had looked in to the possibility of signing the player but were unable to agree a deal on the terms Manchester United were asking.
"Zeki chose to go to Standard Liege, who paid compensation to Manchester United. Zeki enjoyed his time at Standard. However, when Standard sacked their manager in November, Zeki wasn't part of the new manager's plans, which he accepts and understands happens in football.
"Unfortunately, a combination of this, and the fact that he had become homesick meant he wanted to return to England and his representatives made contact with clubs in England.
"This afforded us a second opportunity to sign the player and as per FIFA's solidarity contribution mechanism, Manchester United will receive five per cent of the transfer fee we have paid."

This thread is full of ****.

A player so good to man Utd didn't offer a killer contract to and Spurs wouldn't pay 6m for...

This reeks of agents calling up Levy to me.

Spurs will not be innocent of knowledge but this is hardly a player both clubs wanted.

Gazzetta reporting AC will offer 28.5m for Balotelli

Anything over 14m and we will take it imo, I believe 14m is what we still owe to Inter. Rumours that even Mancini is sick of him now and with plenty of players available it would make sense to sell him now.

That's not what Mancini said in his press conference, 100 more second chances while Mancini still has his blind faith in him or something like that :/

Mancini or rather every manager says things that aren't true to protect the value of said player except in some circumstances.

As Moses has said he is hardly going to say oh btw he is for sale everyone so get an offer put in were desperate to sell.

Every manager says X, Y and Z isn't for sale only for them to leave the next week and they say oh it was done by the club, my hands were tied, the boy wanted to leave for more football and so on.

Whilst the average fan can tell which players will leave and laugh when managers put on a show to talk them up and shut down any possibility of them leaving, managers and chairmen all do it to try and call the bluff almost of agents and the prospective buyers.

It wouldn't be the first time Mancini's said publicly he's done at the club, you give him far too much credit but then what did you call him earlier in the season? The king of mind games? :o :p

Worked for Mancini last season though you have to admit :p

Balotelli isn't a 28.5m player purely based on ability, let alone all the **** that comes with him :/

If Man City can get £28.5m for Balotelli, that would be incredibly good business.

As the story came from an italian paper the numbers are probably in euros, not pounds, so the fee would be more like £23m. I'd still sell him for that, of course.

He looked lost the last time he played for united.

He's not a 6 million pounds player by any stretch of the imagination so its good work by spurs to get him at a more reasonable price.

Why they would want to go to the effort of all this to get him though is beyond me, from what we've seen of him, he really isn't very good.

Like an elaborate bank heist to steal a grape is my favourite summary of this. :D
