January Transfer Window 2012/2013 Season Rumours/Signings

VDV had made it no secret of his desire to return to germany as his wife lives there and he was hardly seeing her. couple that with redknapp going (they got on well) and AVB coming in and sig being signed and it kinda made sense.

he only game i remember him playing for us this season was against newcastle and he was poor tbh but there were other times he was great and it's a shame we lost him. he had great creativity and i miss him. seemed a top bloke. he was only with us 2 seasons and made a great impact and was a fans fav.

he still has a lot of love for spurs but i doubt we'd ever sign him again. we got him for a bargain £8m, got 2 seasons out of him and sold him for £10m. still a bargain, even if he couldn't play 90 or track back properly.

Upon typing "sneijder shots to goal ratio" into Google, the 7th link down is this thread and there is NOTHING helpful in the first 6 links.

I know stats don't give the whole story but when you (DM) start blurting out wide figures and claiming tens of things as a fact, i would like to know where it's coming from.

Maybe i've missed this amazing website with statistics for every single player!

AS Killswitch said, ESPN in this case, they have a good general stats on most players, shots, fouls, cards, goals/assists, appearances/subs and you can see season to season a list of games, if they only appeared for 2 mins or 40 mins in those sub appearances, who they are scoring against(all the best or all the worst teams around), etc, etc.

Theres about eleventy billion other websites with stats on though, you could go wiki, espn, the inter website and even if any individual website doesn't have all the stats you would see in general they are correct.

this time last year, you'd have been replacing michu with ba or cisse.

i agree with what you say to an extent with clubs scouting for unknowns (though michu could go the same way as ba and cisse, ie a burnout)

there's no way sneidjer could've had the career he has by blagging it. the biggest worry for me as a spurs fan is his age. at 28, he's not a long term solution.

VDV being sold was a mistake. ok the bloke couldn't play 90 but he added something we hadn't had for a long time and was also a good dressing room character. if sneidjer could bring a bit of that back, i''d love it. the thought of a spine of dembele, sneijder and sandro is a nice one.

in other spurs news,, friedel has signed and extension to 2014.

Most people can name dozens of players they can't even remotely fathom how they end up in a top league at a top club... Gervinho springs to mind instantly. THere are plenty of managers who take a punt on a player who it turns out was crap all along, and even more crap managers who think the hand me downs from any top club are instantly worth buying at any cost for any wages on the simple principle that "they were at a top club therefore must be great".

So if some daft manager(redknapp obviously) buys Gervinho because "he was good enough for Arsenal" and ends up on another huge contract, does that mean Gervinho is genuinely good, or has fluked into a career.

A HUGE part of getting into professional sport, is dedication not the talent. a Family, parents and the kid who are willing to a large degree give up a childhood, parents who will take their kids to training daily and spend money travelling around a country, who will move their entire family to another area if they get an offer to be in a team. There are LOADS of entirely useless footballers who end up in team after team as kids who after being at a Utd/Arsenal/whatever up to 21, never play football again. One good goal scoring season can set up a career of people taking a risk on you, even if that season was pure fluke.

Why was VDV sold cm? Alright he isn't amazing but he is better than Dempsey

Google Mrs VDV, realise she had a job in Germany she couldn't get in the UK< and he had a job in the UK he could do in Germany with no problem. How he spent so long with Spurs without her with him I don't know.

I hope there's some truth in the Ba to Arsenal rumurs but if we've learned anything it's that we'll end up either signing nobody, or signing someone we don't need. When we needed a keeper we were constantly linked with other keepers who we never signed, the same with central defenders when we ended up signing Squillaci and using Djourou.

Not a chance that Sneijder will sign for Spurs, the reason why he hasn't been playing is because he's refusing to take a pay cut, the reason why he didn't sign for us was because of his wage so in what world will Spurs pay him want he wants?

I'm 99% sure Sneijder will not sign for Spurs. This would take several factors all working for Spurs at the same time. Too many clubs who can pay bigger salaries would be interested in him.

Levy would have to pay a big signing on fee to combat the wages.

I don't agree Sneijder would be an awful signing, he could be a superb signing. I do think he's out of Spurs reach though, we just can't compete with the big boys for big earners.

Although I rate VdV I don't think he was a massive loss for Spurs in the sense that if you look at the makeup of their team basically they play with wingers meaning that the only options formation wise really are 4-4-2 or 4-4-1-1 (possibly labelled as 4-2-3-1). So the only way to accommodate VdV would be to play one up front with him in behind, but they have Dempsey and Sigurdsson who can fulfil that role.

Not nearly as good though :p

EDIT: bild are reporting we are close to agreeing a deal to sign Lewandowski, wont go away this one although presumably it'll be one for the Summer rather than next month

More stories from various sources saying Lewandowski has agreed to sign for Man United. He has the potential to be world class but surely it must mean someone is on their way. If only SAF could actually see the giant gap in our midfield. Perhaps getting Lewandowski is a ploy so we can just sign the whole of Dortmund's midfield!!

I just don't see who is going, there's no obvious player! Surely Rvp and Rooney won't, Welbeck has just signed a new deal and Hernandez is arguably our most effective striker at the moment!

Only thing I can think of is Rooney moving into midfield permanently.

At the end of the day if there's a quality player available at a cut price we have to be interested and lets face it ignoring the contractual situations of the current group of strikers having Lewandowski to select is obviously better than having to rely on Welbeck (dont get me wrong this isn't me hating on Welbeck)

Only thing I would question regarding Lewandowski is how he'd cope with potentially not starting every week, almost every time I've seen him play he's missed some fairly easy chances something that will only worsen and be highlighted more if he's not starting regularly and or only making the odd 15 minute appearance here and there.

One thing is for sure I certainly dont want to see Rooney permanently pushed into midfield

This is the reasoning, pure and simple

Would be nice to understand exactly how much Utd are meant to be paying (£12m with a year left on his BD contract is reasonable imo, Mirror is however quotiing nearer £18m which personally think is too high)

Not sure £18m is classified as "cut prince" either, given that he isnt exactly vastly experienced and has "only" been doing well for the last 18 months or so. It isnt extortionate, but its not a brilliant price either.

Its also highly dependant on when Fergie does decide to go, in reference to him continually changing formation of the team etc etc as apposed to a new manager who might get one starting XI and stick with that (even if it means square pegs in round holes for those being rested / injured at the time.

SAF's broken the mold so its impossible to tell - but I guess even SAF being given ~£15m to spend on an area of the team that doesnt drastically need it means he is committed to 2013/14 season at the very least.

Both the manager and the player have said as recently as this season that Rooney is a striker so no Frank it's not as you put it pure and simple that another striker coming in means him playing in midfield.

If Newcastle can sign a decent CB and RB in the window then this will be a massive boost. Mike Williamson was shocking for 2 of the goals yesterday against Man U. Simpson probably had his best game of the season, but still offers nothing going forward, his crossing abilities match his birds oral abilities...

arshavin is way too good for reading. i'd take arshavin at spurs if he does become available.

strong rumour huddlestone could go to reading.
