Paper Talk Express, Liverpool are preparing to make Luis Suarez the highest-paid player in the club's history by offering the striker a new contract that would double his wages to about £200,000 a week. :) Walk on Walk on. Now if only Ozil would leave arsenal :D
This is probably one story i hope isn't a rumour, STAY AWAY!!! clubs :)

All the newspapers are reporting the same story, that Ayre's flown to Spain to start talks with his agent. I can't see anything being resolved before the end of the season though.

Yeah but then he still loses nearly half to tax. If he was bought by a Spanish club for ex then the wages would be a lot higher due to the lesser tax :p

A good accountant would first tell him that he'd earn less (based on getting the same gross pay) in Spain. There's no longer any tax perks for foreign players in La Liga and the tax rate there is actually slightly higher than here now.

Why would we take Ozil and 60 million, that would just make us worse and he is far far better than Bale last year, in fact last year he was the best in the league also and he has just got better.

Anything we sell him for is bad, we won't replace him with better or make the team better by replacing him with whatever money we get.

People always say that every player has a price and that they would be happy to sell any player if an insane bid come in, but I don't think that is true...

Players like Suarez, Bale, Ronaldo etc are sold to the detriment of the team and the clubs ambition regardless of how much they go for.

If Suarez went for 100m then it's a negative from all aspects except the bank balance.

Peoples argument is "yeh but we can buy a few players with that sort of money", that being true, you could probably add 3 decent players at that, not like for like worldclass for worldclass.

Just like Tottenham have proved and Man Utd sort of proved/didnt prove when selling Ronaldo

Not strictly true

For the money mentioned in this thread two (or more) world class players could be bought, one to directly replace the 20 - 30 goals he gets you now and another to either cover the position during injury / bans etc or to improve the team elsewhere

Not true at all

Man Utd never spent the £80m even though there were players available for less than that during that summer that would have improved the team (obviously the public dont know all the ins and outs, but Utd apparently didnt spend a fraction of that money for several years)

Spurs are a completely different kettle of fish, 1stly they bought too many players at once and secondly for the most part they bought potential rather than existing world class talent.

Yep

We could sell Suarez for 500 million, we'd still end up worse for a good few years. Throw money at him and pray he stays and try build around him, this will in turn allow me to love him again

Not for a club in our position, maybe when you're really strong like United in 09, but when you're fighting to be relevant again you'll just hit the same problem and be trying to get another Suarez who for some reason hadn't been bought by a club in a better position.
Unless we go full Man City and just throw wages at every player

Could try our luck for a third time and buy the Dutch leagues top scorer. Didn't work the first time but we got Suarez bang on. Would take hell of a player to replace him though.

No it wouldn't. We'd just laugh at Arsenal, again. It would be good to see all the Arsenal supporters try to pretend they don't want him, while secretly praying you sign him though.

At the same time you sold Torres for £50 million probably not expecting to get anyone better and look how that turned out.

I mean yes suarez is on fire at the moment and the best in the league by a mile, but all players are replaceable. If someone offered you £100 million for him and you turned it down then id see that being a stupid move.

You could get another striker for that, that would get you the 20-30 goals a season and manage to get someone for when Gerrard retires, and still have some spare change.
