Personally I am quite happy to see Carroll stay away on loan for a bit more getting some first team action. I know he's not starting regularly and in some cases not getting a lot of game time at all, but he should utilise this time like Kane did and when he comes back make his mark wherever he can and eventually he should squeeze in. I think he's going to be the next one of our academy players to really push through and the club need to make sure they let him know we are monitoring with a view to keeping him long term.

I sort of agree with you but if we are going to bring someone in on loan who is likely to start, why not start integrating him now after a recall?

There also seem to be a glut of players who could play that role with a little coaching (holtby included).

It is a pet hate of mine when managers "bring their own players in" instead of working with good players already at the club. That methodology fosters a constantly disrupted team with no ability to link up, players becoming unsellable due to lack of game time and no club identity. Basically what is at sours after 4 years of Arry, AvB, Baldini and Timmeh.

Rumour is that West Ham will sign Lewis Dunk from Brighton this window for 5m. Thought he would go to a big club. He'll be a top centre back in the coming years. Arsenal were linked last year, but they bought Chambers.

Is he that good ?

Things I have been told is that he has a few blinding games and is then utter crap. I haven't seen him play so am not is a position to comment. If he takes to the PL like Cresswell has we would be lucky.

Reid will be gone at the end of the season.

He is very good. We used to say he is prone to lapses in concentration, and makes errors, but haven't seen him play a bad game in over a year. He seems to have cut it out of his game completely.

He will be a top player if given the chance... A goalscoring cb as well. We should charge double, as he is our best defender and top scorer!
 
Big step up to the Prem though. Look at Bridcutt, looks out of his depth at times and was a similar caliber player to Dunk.

...all from Soccerisma however, so they are all more likely to sign for someone else in the summer :):(

Well he would be if he came to West Ham. Assuming Reid is a goner, Dunk will be back up to Tomkins and Collins to start.

Reid was lucky in so much the West ham were relegated after his first season when he hardly played. The second season he was a regular in the Championship and came on really well. Dunk I would imagine is ahead of him on that score.
 
There is a bit of a misconception about Dunk. He has only really started playing regularly this season. His development was kind of put on hold for a few years due to some off-field problems which meant he went out on loan a few times. Last season he was behind Upson and Greer when they were fit(no big deal, probably the best partnership in the division for the previous two years). But when he did play everyone screamed for him to start every game. He is easily the first name on the team sheet nowadays though. He has amazing composure, which does occasionally make him look a bit casual.

If we signed a single one of those this window I would be aghast! To sign all 3 is a mere pipe dream.
