*January Transfer Window 2014/15 Season Rumours/Signings*

I'd rather get rid of Rooney than Mata or RVP. Both offer much more ability in their respective roles than Rooney, who isn't the finisher that RVP is, or anywhere near as good in the number 10 role as Mata can be.

I want the fatty dropped :(

I think Manchester United can (imho, should) shift out more than just Rooney and Mata to be honest.

Zomg 20 million for rvp would be amazing! No way juve will stump up 30 for mata though. Maybe it's a swap dealio for vidal we are trying to wrangle.

If RvP hadn't been hilariously mismanaged by Moyes then I imagine he'd still be banging them in on a weekly basis. Very much doubt Van Gaal is going to let RvP go anywhere.

He would for Ronnie.

Would love the impossible dream of Ronaldo coming to Arsenal. Him and Ozil used to be absolute dynamite.

Its hard to say with Ronaldo. I don't know a huge amount about his injury problems but it does seem to be happening more frequently these days.

Like with all top players at a club, they tend to be played when not fully fit etc so that can play a part in seemingly long term injuries.

As others have said, out of our top players Rooney is the weak link really. RvP is the better out and out striker as is Falcao and Mata is by far the better no10.

Rooney has ridden the wave of sub par United teams for a few years now so he could hold us for ransom but he doesn't offer anything like what the other top payed players in the world do. We don't need him with the current crop of players and it will be interesting to see if LvG drops him if he doesn't start performing.

He is a very good player but he is not consistent enough and his best / most explosive days are behind him.

Now everyone seems convinced that Rooney is ****, I wonder if Newcastle could snap him up. Maybe a swap deal for Mike Williamson to help solve your defensive problems.

What do you think is a good price?

At 29/30 he's still likely to be one of the best players in the World, if his contract is still of a decent length and he doesn't try to force the move then you would still have to expect to pay quite a lot of money to sign him. £30m is a lot of money by any normal standards but by footballing standards it's about halfway between a Fellaini and a Mata - neither of which you rate as I believe you've said on a few occasions.

His best years may or may not be behind him but if a team could get say 3-4 years from him where he continues to play well then £30m starts to look like a veritable bargain. Hell, even a year or two if it meant winning the EPL and/or a cup could be worth it to rebuild confidence (including with investors come to that). Ok, it's not likely he'll be worth a huge amount at 34+ but it's probably worth the risk to get a few good years and boost the club back onto an upward trajectory. You also can't say with certainty that he won't be able to adapt his style of play to remain highly effective even if it's not all about pace and power.

However there's at least a fair chance it won't happen in the first place which makes Ronaldo's lasting value as an asset to Man Utd somewhat of a moot point.

He's still worth well in excess of £60 million even when he hits 30. He's the worlds best player, and probably will be top 2 again next year. He'll be around the current transfer record whenever he's next sold

At 30 he isn't worth in excess of 60 million. I have no idea what you are smoking but can i has some too?

The value of a player is not what he has done for the last few years if he is past his peak and declining with no resale potential.

He is worth what someone will pay for him.

This is what annoys me...if player X costs £30m and player Y costs £50m, it doesn't make player Y better. It just means that the club felt like that player was worth that much to their team.

Ronaldo past it? **Removed, there's no need for that.**.

Are you a bit broken?

How can you look at the current transfer market and think he'll be worth less than that? Even in a year or two.
