*January Transfer Window 2014/15 Season Rumours/Signings*

8 years, Anderson was at Utd for 8 years. He's a millionaire being a for me, pretty crap footballer who barely tried, didn't care less about playing, somehow got a new contract and never actually has to work again in his life but instead of walking away from a sport he's not very good at... he's got another new contract at another club to play football.

It doesn't seem to matter how poorly you play or what attitude you show, if you don't care about football in the slightest you can still walk away from a top club with some stupid club thinking they are getting a bargain by throwing thousands a week at you. Easy life for some :(

In other news, Arfa's move to Nice is off as he can't play for a third club in a single season so, let his contract be cancelled thinking he was getting another one(another player who can't be arsed at all and yet a smaller club is willing to throw money at him because years ago someone said he was great) and now won't be getting paid at all till probably next season... if he bothers keeping fit and impresses someone enough to give him a contract.

The January transfer window is often dull -- there simply aren't that many top players available unless a club is looking for a quick injection of cash, or the player was already surplus to requirements. What I take away from this window is that we've made a start on clearing out the deadwood which will make it easier for us to sign our targets in the summer.

There were enough if Utd wanted them enough (Laporte was directly quoted as stating he would happily move if buyout clause was payed in full for instance).

Historically the Jan window is dull - Im sure some paper came up with the 100s of millions spent in both of the last couple of years though (and remember it could be argued that until last season, it was rare for Utd to NEED re-inforcements in Jan anyway - which certainly cant be argued this season because of how **** the defence has been particularly)

I really thought LvG would at least get a centre-half (although I always knew most of the spending would be saved until the summer)

Why? Woodward told investors that it was highly unlikely that Utd were going to spend in January. It shouldn't be a surprise that Utd haven't signed anybody.

He said that last year too (and Mata came in) - and he will probably say it next year.

(I believe Woodward also used the phrase - "unless a target becomes available" - as a get out clause)

Most managers also say they arent going to go after anyone either and end up doing some business

What the press is told and what actually happens is rarely the same thing

"We are not looking to enter the market for short-term fixes. However we have targets we are looking at for next summer and should any of those become available in January we would consider acting but we all need to recognise that is a low probability"

Well reportedly Laporte was available and a "high-priority" target

This wasn't press, this was investors.

Exactly.
Its still considered a "press-release" , so effectively the same thing

Anything directly covered by the press - whether its a pre-match interview on a Friday or a speech to investors - its all for consumption by the press

No it's not. It was an investor call. He is legally obliged to inform investors of the clubs intentions. Just like he told them in the summer that the club expected to spend far more than normal, this time he told them there was no expectation to spend.

Read the quote

.....SHOULD ANY OF THOSE BECOME AVAILABLE WE WILL CONSIDER ACTING.....

(as you seem to have a reading problem)

and yes it is a press release, its as much for future/potential investors as for current ones, so its straight for release to the press (which is exactly why press are actually invited to those kinds of calls)

I have no problems reading thanks. I questioned why you seemed surprised that Utd didn't sign a CB when the club told you weeks ago that it was highly unlikely that they'll sign anybody.

And no it was not a press-release. It was a investor call. You really have a bad habit of talking about things you have absolutely no idea about.

did this make sense to anyone else? am I being retarded here?

Cuba Akpom apparently will be signing a contract extension within the next few day, really good news as he's shown promise and is starting to look for first team opportunities, his form has been damn good for our second string and youth so always a plus to keep onto the lad.
