January Transfer Window 2017/18

with the mahrez links what do you think? Id be happy with that now, providing we also improve in summer
I hope we bloody replace Phil in Jan...Lemar and Mahrez touted. What about Aubameyang on the cheap and put Bobby a little deeper?
I said the other day, we have to look not just at now and the last 5 months of the season but the long term too. The club have to have a plan regarding what they're going to do in the summer and spend accordingly. For example (not that I'd go this way), with all of Sturridge, Ings & Origi (yes he's on loan now) possibly leaving within the next 6 months, as omnom says we could look to go big on a centre forward and then play Firmino in a more withdrawn role. I personally don't like that idea because we have a very particular way of attacking that's proving to be very successful and Firmino is central to that - I'd rather we just stocked up on more creative, attacking mids/wingers and then keep Origi and Solanke as back-up to Firmino. Although reports are distancing us from a bid for Mahrez, the attractive part of signing him would be that he'd be available in the CL and could possibly be got at a price that allowed us to bring in somebody like Lemar too.

Specifically on Aubameyang - that's not happening. There's no way we're going to spend huge money on a 28 year old and it would take huge money to sign him.

Beinsports is a huge sports network in the middle east. Keys and Gray ran off there after they were booted off Sky. It's a spin off from Al Jazeera TV. Seeing as Mahrez is from Algeria, they may have more inside sources with him than we do here.

beIN report a load of rubbish most of the time. I'm sure they regularly said the Salah deal was done well before it was. Their reports say he'll have a medical tomorrow so we'll know fairly soon how reliable their story is - journo's close to Liverpool have played down the link saying we're not interested but caveated that with "at the moment".

Can't wait for the camera to pan to his face when we knock them out the CL.
I think you meant his face when Barca knock you lot out :p.

£142mill is crazy but then Neymars fee was crazy too. Just a shame we won’t get sweet FA when Sanchez leaves us this year :/.

Mahrez very good replacement, if he can continue his recent form and replicate that of their league winning season he will be a great capture. 50m seems the going rate I guess...

£142m is around 10 Ross Barclays so a fair price and I also read that Coutinho himself is paying around £15m to get out of Liverpool which again is a fair price.

No I didn't.

Barca rags report the same bs every time a player joins them. Fabregas, Mascherano and god knows who else supposedly sacrificed x amount of their salary to make the deal happen. I'm surprised Barca have a wage bill at all.

Mahrez can't be a replacement for Coutinho though. He's a completely different type of player. So who is going to fill the Coutinho role?

Nice of Liverpool to refund fans who bought Coutinho 17/18 shirts with a £50 voucher. If he'd gone in the summer, then yeah, but he's been there for another half a season.

Name a like for like replacement? It's nigh on impossible to replace Coutinho like for like and if we can't then we have to look at replacing what he brings to the side with player that maybe don't play the exact same positions or roles. I'm far from convinced that this Mahrez story is legit but he'll replace a lot of the creativity from a wide position that Coutinho brought to the side.
