Japanese Grand Prix 2012, Suzuka - Race 15/20

Damn, thought it was some dig suggesting Ferrari were always last, back in their bad days :p

:p They never really finished last much. You've got to go all the way back to 1980 to find them out of the top four in the Constructors Championship! But even after '82 and '83 when they won the WCC, they still kept 27 and 28.

***edit***

Didn't Ligier used to keep 25-26? Williams I think always reverted to 5 and 6 when they didn't have a champion at the helm (hence our Nige's Red Five).

Ferrari should always be 27 and 28 :)

Winning the 82 WCC was pretty massive considering we lost Gilles and Pironi that year, should have been a WDC as well.

Yep, Ligier were always 25-26, Williams 5-6, Tyrrell were 3-4 for years and years! Lotus generally 11-12, 9-10 Brabham I think? 29-30 possibly Larrousse in the late 80's, Minardi 23-24, Scuderia Italia/Dallara 21-22 and that's about all I remember without checking. Oh, I think Fondmetal were 14!

Before 1996, it was generally only the 1-2 numbers that moved depending on who the champion was. Teams kept numbers for years. So Ferrari always ran 27 and 28, aside from 1990 when Prost moved there as reigning champion. Another team that kept numbers for years was Tyrrell, who always had 3 and 4. Lotus used to always be 11 and 12 as well.

Best numbering system. I like to play the game of which modern team would inherit which set of numbers (to trace the history of the teams).

I did always wonder how Nigel managed to be Red 5, now I know.

In american racing and bike racing your number is your identity. They could do the same in F1, either with teams or drivers.

That's going to hamper Hamilton's WDC bid then.

He needs as many cars between him and Vettel/Alonso/Kimi as possible.

I'll predict LH, SV, FA for the top three.

i see the hamilton/mercedes thread got closed, surprised it lasted that long.

hamilton really should have won the last race and i think he will be in for winning this one too.

it will be very interesting both on and off the track.

will be up bright and early for this!

Bad luck for mclaren that. Bet they are wishing it was Jensons car that gave up instead of Lewis's in the race (obviously neither gearbox giving up would have been better!).

That way Lewis would be in a much better position for the WDC at it would mean they would have to start concentrating on Lewis winning the title.

Also, lewis qualifies so well, that a 5 place grid drop would treat him better than Jenson.

I reckon LH, FA, KR on the podium this weekend in that order. Have a hunch that the RBR won't be looking too hot this weekend.
