The rule is there to stop people parking up in the incorrect spot so the transponder cannot pick up movement at the start.

It did pick up movment, so he did not break that rule. He just did not move enough to trigger a penalty. Put yourself in the stewards position... No rules was broken according to the data, he didnt gain an advantage (in fact it cost him places).

OMFG he did brake a rule as you have been pointed out to by members here.
It does not matter if it cost him places.

I stayed up all night in the end. It was tempting to do a shot every time they mentioned the wind but I didn't fancy dying within minutes of Q1 :p

Poll added.

Vettel parked correctly
Vettel did not move enough to trigger the transponder - which is what the FIA use to establish a "jump start"

Therefore:
Vettel did not jump the start.
Vettel was not punished.

It isn't rocket science lads.

Has LeClerc got a penalty for his stupidity into turn 2 ultimately causing a driver to retire, running with damage spreading carbon fibre everywhere and not pitting for a replacement wing soon enough?

Quite, not exactly sure what these two are going on about! I would love to know what they want him penalised for, because a jump start penalty is not possible according to the rules.

I am not sure having a bad start could not should be penalised by the FIA :D

On a more serious note, what do people think about the failure of the halo device? Hamilton got hit by carbon fibre: it could easily have been something more serious.

A far more interesting an relevant point.

I suspect this will come under the first lap being treated a lot less strictly in terms of direct contact.

Cold tyres, defending, and slid out wide into another car. I think in previous years we would have seen a penalty for charles :D

Even if you’re less strict on the accident itself, he ran with a wing that was falling a part for a few laps which also damaged another driver’s car, just missing their head. He should have come in for a wing straight away and he ignored the team’s order to do so.

He ignored the teams orders, not a black and orange flag, so no rules broken there.
The stewards would be checking the damage and making a decision.
I think they did get that wrong, and the situation when the end plate flew off was dangerous.
Have we seen any footage of the impact apart from the fleeting glimpse I saw on the live footage that the commentary team missed.

Im not sure what is going on with stewards at the moment. The time taken for decisions and consistency seems all over the place. F2 and 3 decisions seem faster and more consistent and they are the same type of contacts/cutting corner..etc so there is no excuse.

CLC should have had a penalty, but I don’t understand how Albon using Norris as a brake when he came in too fast to make a corner was not given one either. Really messy.

It’s unlikely to ever stop anything small like the massa incident many years ago.

Is there a video of this incident?
