On a more serious note, what do people think about the failure of the halo device? Hamilton got hit by carbon fibre: it could easily have been something more serious.

Choosing the halo over a screen was a deliberate choice not to protect against such impacts rather than a failure of the device. It's not meant to protect against that.

I thought that it ended up being a bit dull. 5/10 for me. The stewards don't really help themselves with their speed of response - perhaps they should open the process up a bit? I imagine that much of the delay is down to lobbying and arguments from the teams.

Leclerc needs to wind his neck in a bit. He might have been outperforming a 4 time WDC in Vettel, but he's clearly not the finished article yet and indeed I'd argue that he's relatively underperforming what the car is capable off. It feels like he's overdriving the car and making mistakes. It was a very, very poor decision not to come in with that level of damage.

Pleased for Bottas, but it does look a bit like Mercedes chucking him a bone towards the end of the season.

Hes a young F1 driver in a big seat. You don't get there by being meek..
All drivers go through a period like this as they learn, then hopefully come out of it better. Younger drivers especially.
It's about finding the edges and learning how to flirt with them. That means going over a bit every now and again.

Indeed, well said.

Behave, the halo was designed to protect against loose wheels and large debris, not relatively small bits of carbon fibre

Correct, the helmet design was changed to lower the visor height and increase protection from smaller, heavier items. The halo design is for protection from larger items, mainly wheels (ala Henry surtees terrible accident).
These items works together to provide better all round protection.
Smaller items such as small carbon parts are to be handled by the helmet and smaller visor surface

The halo was hit by debris from Leclerc's car and deflected. It chopped off his mirror. That's what it's supposed to do, isn't it?

Doesn't sound like a failure, sounds like the opposite.

That was done by the second part coming at Hamilton
The first dedri was heading straight for his face.

It was only Hamilton,s reflex that saved him. Not the failow

He would have been fine.

The new 2019 helmet regs are designed for the following:

Advanced Ballistic Protection: A 225g metal projectile fired at 250km/h. The peak deceleration shall not exceed 275G.

Visor penetration: Air rifle fires 1.2g pellet at visor. Pellet must not penetrate the interior of the helmet.

Amongst many other changes. The specs of the helmet are closely linked to the protection provided by the halo.

Indeed. He's not performing as well as he could / thinks he is.

You do need glasses.
Watch catch up. The very large part was going straight for the visor.
It would have killed him. But you say "he would have been fine" Jesus jpeg

Which incident? Theres the earliest one, where a small part flicked up and hit the nose winglet on the Mercedes, then bounced off the halo, and the latter one where a larger part hits the right side behind the cockpit and takes out the wing mirror.
Which incident are you talking about, because neither of those match with your description?

dangerous from leclerc.

It was ridiculous. He has a wing hanging off, mirror hanging off and he won’t pit. He’s a little brat and is too emotional to be champion and Ferrari’s number 1 currently. Thank goodness there were no injuries or more damage to other cars. Ferrari have something on the FIA, that’s for sure, since Canada.

I really dislike Croft. ‘These tyre graphics are brilliant’. Later, Hamilton is shown with 70% that would get him to the end, pits. The graphics are completely made up.
