Rght, been wading my way through this thread.... so it's time for my say. Not Japanese myself, but been in Japan for two years now (well, actually been in Australia for the last couple of months... but heading back to Japan next week.... I digress). This is my take on it...
The first thing to clear up... she is certainly not mainstream 'pin-up girl' in Japan. There are plenty of other 'legal' (in the UK sense of the word) ladies out there who are the main pin-ups.
Having said that, there is an element of Japanese men, relative large compared to UK, but certainly not all Japanese men, who are obviously attracted to young female children. Most men will not act on these emotions though. Does that make it right... to think about, but not act on? I'm not sure, but that is the justifcation many Japanese will make.
Youth is considered a virtue in Japan, especially amoungst women, though this is changing somewhat, with the slooooooowww Westernisation process of their society.
Most pin-up type ladies will be in the 17-25 (maybe 30 these days) range. Older ladies tend to be actresses instead, rather than pure eye-candy.
Personally, I think she is WAY to young for this kind of stuff, she should be at least 16, but that's me applying Western standards. If I was to go 'European' (based on some age's of consent) 14 would be acceptable. I would still feel uncomfortable at that. Her parents and her are obviously either
a) nieve (most likely in her case)
b) not nieve, but like most Japanese, very good at just 'ignoring' things they don't like. Very "if you don't like something, don't think about it, ignore, and therefore it doesn't exist". I personally think, this is what the parents are doing.
c) Complete money grabbing, immoral people.
Japanese views on sex are somewhat different compared to UK. A lot of it derives from Japanese culture during the Edo period. To a Westerner, a lot of these seem bizarre. For example, perfectly acceptable showing animated sex, men reading pornographics magazines on trains etc etc.... Yet showing pubic hair is completely taboo!!! (Even on educational, natural science programmes, such as the educational type ones shown on BBC for example).
The Japanese talk about sex a lot, but they don't appear to do it much (especially with their own husband/wife). This appears to be a complete seperation of the mother/lover role, a leftover from the geisha society in the Edo (and earlier) period.
