Joe Lycett - Qatar/Beckham debate

You sure do buddy.
i'm really really not your buddy. in fact i very much doubt you and i would speak for more than 2 minutes face to face before you'd realise that. i'm quite sure you're probably a lovely person but anyone who supports or defends countries like Qatar and the things that happens in those countries isn't someone i'll want to have in my company.

This is a classic line.

What's wrong with the 300,000 Qataris that you don't support? (We could extend this to the entire Gulf actually so 40+ Million people)

You seem kind of racist buddy.

that would be the line you want to peddle. that's usually all folks like yourself have to fall back on. racist racist racist!!

i couldn't give one **** about the colour or creed of anyone. but you and to be clear i'm talking about no one other than you, are an apologist. an apologist for a regime that is utterly barbaric. not the people, the regime. and people like you that support it are 'insert whatever derogatory term you wish'. irrespective of skin colour.

and thats why we wouldn't talk for more than 2 minutes in real life, because 'oh racist' is your default go to, even when racism has got **** all to do with it.

not the people, the regime.
Now, what if the "regime" is ruling with the consent of the public? Do you think they have the full support of the vast majority of the 300,000 people of Qatar as that's what who they want in charge.
When have you ever heard of an Asylum seeker from Qatar fleeing the evil regime?

Then by default you seem to be against not only the regime but the people that keep it in place (don't forget it's a tribal society and its how they operate)

Does then being against the majority of qataris that also support the regime make you a racist or what does that make you?

Keep trying. People like you disgust me, the more you cry racist the more you dilute the word and the issues faced by people who do suffer from racism.
Brushing off and tarnishing an entire nation due to your own bigoted beliefs is quite disgusting...

You're just blind to it that's all, even when its staring you in the face. Actual diversity and differing beliefs does seem to be a problem for some.

keep going, keep on banging on that race is the issue. it's all you've got so i guess you've got to hold on to it, even when race is nothing to do with it at all.

You literally meet the textbook definition.

racist
/ˈreɪsɪst/
Learn to pronounce

adjective

  1. characterized by or showing prejudice, discrimination, or antagonism against a person or people on the basis of their membership of a particular racial or ethnic group, typically one that is a minority or marginalized.

ethnicity
/ɛθˈnɪsɪti/
Learn to pronounce

noun

  1. the quality or fact of belonging to a population group or subgroup made up of people who share a common cultural background or descent.

I mean I am sure we can argue that qataris belong to a particular ethnic group... which of course you don't like their cultural traits or anyone that agrees with them.

again, keep trying. i don't care about anyones ethnic group. i don't care about their colour or race. but you probably know that. however all you've got to fall back on is 'omg you're racist' so that's the card you keep playing. folk like you can **** right off. i don't like a regime that thinks it's ok to use slave labour, i don't like a regime that locks people of the same sex up if they show affection in public. the colour or race of those within that regime are of absolutely no importance to me and doesn't play any part in my thinking.
Brushing off and tarnishing an entire nation due to your own bigoted beliefs is quite disgusting...
and just to try and make it clear, i'm not the one with the bigoted beliefs. i don't support any laws (or people, irrespective of their race) that discriminate against people due to their colour, place of birth or sexuality. can you or those in charge of the qatari regime say the same?

1) they will lock you up if anyone shows affection in public...
2) The qatari people are in charge of the regime no?...

They're living in some Conservative Islamic hell hole where you basically spend your life pretending to be religious so your mum and dad don't disown you, gay men have sex hidden away, young couples have sex hidden away, everyone just lives some dumb lie so they avoid offending people who believe in a magic sky fairy. Absolute circus of a country. Hope that helps.

And yet they pulled off an entire world cup, complete with beer. :D
Very conservative.
The way you're convinced you're right and they live in a hell hole, they think the same about us too.

Might give you a perspective why you dont see qatari refugees...

Wow, government who's oil exports account for 70% of it's economy is able to give citizens free ****. They pulled off a world cup after bribing the organisers, having thousands of workers die to build stadiums which will now never be used, and lying about beer being allowed in stadiums.

It’s not even free stuff, just look around at how many parts of the economy are on strike, nurses paid a pittance, poverty wages. I mentioned earlier about life in germany as well and how it’s so much more advanced than the U.K. when it comes to workers rights and social welfare.

To me it looks like the U.K. is a circus of a country, three prime ministers in a year? Brexit caused poverty? When Gary Neville criticised the government, just look at their response.

But guess what, no one from Qatar or even the gulf has ever pointed fingers and criticised. Colonial attitudes are too engrained in British culture that we are blinded to it.

Strange culture that’s for sure, you Dont know until you’re outside looking in.

3 prime ministers in a year, what kind of point scoring nonsense has this descended into? :p

None of those prime ministers are obsessed with what clothes people wear or where they choose to park their penis for the night.

But guess what, no one from Qatar or even the gulf has ever pointed fingers and criticised.

Salman Rushdie entered the chat

You're a UK resident who feels closer to Qatar than you do the country you're living in? Oh well colour me surprised.
