John Terry... you rat!

Being captain of England means to be more than a great player and a leader on the pitch. It is representing your country and as such, the role demands a person who commands respect and who acts with some basic degree of decency. A line has to be drawn and clearly Terry has proven himself unworthy of such an honour. The fact that theres not many obvious candidates to assume the position should not distract from the necessisty to send the message that certain types of behavour are simply unaceptable and that actions have consequences.

I can't honestly believe that some people are actually buying in to the media fueled crud and arguing that Terry should lose the England captaincy over this

I must admit that i dont think he should lose the captaincy over this. Then again i would rather he didnt have it anyway, but thats purely because i prefer midfielders as captains.

Then again I cant honestly believe that some people are so blase (sp?) about cheating. I do find myself sorry for some of the wives and husbands out there if the comments of their other halves are anything to go by in the last couple of days.

Ermmm cant see the big fuss over this...hes just a brainless over paid footballer who likes to cheat on his missus with his mates bird...i dont think he should lose his captaincy over this although i can see the point that hes not exactly got the squeaky clean image to lead the country.

But like some people have said if he has lost respect of his fellow players then he needs to be booted out simple as that...if he hasnt then let him carry on...hes not exactly a great leader for England or Chelski imo.

Laughable that Rooney should be captain though...dont think hes exactly the type of role model that kids will look up to.

Saying that i dont think his team mates will be inviting him round for dinner as he'll probably cop off with their missus:p.

His actions are hardly going to influence any starry eyed kids and make them try to get off with their mate's birds at school as all they care about is what they see on the pitch, and he was awesome again today by the way, so the apparent issue of him being an unsuitable role model is laughable.
Who really cares, just as who really cared when Rooney banged a fossil etc :/

Kids want to get off with their mates birds anyway, they don't need a role model for that :)

The Rooney situation was slightly different because:

1) He wasn't England captain
2) He didn't sleep with an England player's partner

Lets be honest here, plenty of sportsmen have been known to put it about a bit, and doubtless countless others that we've never heard about. That's part of parcel of being famous, you try and nob as many as you can. That in itself is nothing new and plenty of successful sportsmen have strayed in the past.

The issue here is that theoretically we could have a situation where Wayne Bridge and the guy who was doing his bird are going to be locked away together for a few weeks during the World Cup. That surely can't be good for team morale, especially if there is any danger of a rift forming in the camp (I don't know what circles of friends there are, but presumably Bridge will have some mates there).

Of course, removing Terry's captaincy isn't necessarily going to resolve that particular issue.

Regardless off off pitch stuff there is no way Rooney could be considered captain until his on pitch behaviour improves, the foaming mouth badgering of referees and streams of foul mouthed abuse

Playing football, earning a fortune, going to the world cup as captain, and doing the mates girlfriend whilst being married, are we talking Jackie Collins ?

I don't know about him losing the captaincy but I don't see how his team-mates can't have lost some respect for him, I think most people would lose some respect for someone if they found out they had an affair with a mates girlfriend, never mind the fact he's married.

I strongly disagree with the judge. I don't believe the public has a 'right' to know about this sort of thing. I'm not interested and I certainly don't believe it is a right to know about the sordid personal details of anyone - whether they are in the public eye or not.

Who should be the future England captain? I am in no doubt. Rooney has too many issues not least of which is his on-pitch temper problems. I don't believe a striker should hold the captaincy anyway. Gerard - no, for the reasons given above. Ferdinand - incapable of meeting with a drugs inspector - shouldn't be in the England team. Despite the recent revelations, there is only one player with the personal strengths and capabilities to lead the England team in World Cup year. And that is unquestionably, Terry. His qualities as on-pitch captain are far superior to the alternatives being banded about. If he were to resign or the old farts at the FA decide he should go then my call would go out to Lampard.

If we must discount any player because of various past indiscretions then where will that leave us? Crouch :sob:

No, he was paying for sex with a prositute (and an ugly one at that), and could have gotten any kind of sexually transmittied disease. :(

If we are to believe what the papers are saying, it will certainly make for an interesting game on the 27th Feb ;)

Why are people putting Rooney forward? He paid a hooker for sex? is this okay?

None of the current England players strike me as being worthy of Captain, it's a sad state of affairs.

Being England captain, is more then just being a leader on the pitch. You need to be a leader off the pitch.

You've obviously not seen much of him recently then. Mascherano shouldn't be captain of Argentina going by your assessment too.

Rooney's on field behaviour has improved tenfold, you'd know that if you actually watched him week in week out.

And it's funny how foaming mouth badgering of referees could be applied to the current England captain. :p

Something he did aged 16-17 and he publically apologised for. He's now 24 for christ sake, that happened 6 years ago. He's moved on quite a bit since then. What is Terry's excuse because he certainly can't blame youthful exuberance.

You rule Ferdinand out for missing a drug test, taking it successfully 24hrs later and accepting his punishment like a man, an incident that happened 7 years ago. Yet you will accept all unquestionable behaviour from Terry who seems to out do himself with each passing year? hahahaha

Didn't the papers also report Terry's dad is a coke dealer and his mum shoplifts or something? You can take the family out of the council estate ..

I don't remeber everyone calling for Becks to be stripped of his captaincy when his affiar with Ms Loos was splattered all over the tabloids?

What is the real difference now???

Maybe because it was a load of crap?

I don't see Terry vehemently denying anything at the minute.
