Just Arrived! VSonic VSD3S

Also question about portable amp are there any cheaper ones than Fiio A3 (Kilimanjaro 2) and how do they perform compare to it. I'm just not sure of what difference we a re talking about with amp. I never had an amp as I have bose companion 2 speakers which have amp build in so they sound the same.

Ok, I just listened to that track on my Fidue A73s and RHA MA750s.

The Fidues have very detailed but smooth treble and they were sounding sibilant with that track.

The RHA MA750s are more like the Sennheiser HD650 in that the treble is rolled off and they sound ultra smooth and I could still hear some sibilance with them - I don't think I have ever heard sibilance through them before.

Basically I think that track must be very badly mastered and the sibilance is is probably recorded into the track. There's not much you can do about it to be honest because of you try EQing that you'll have to lose way too much of the high frequency information, which will kill the track.

Oh and question 2:

Take a look at the Topping NX1 (£25)

That track has a lot of reverb and treble emphasising the 'S' making it sound a bit prominent and harsh.

Here's some favourite songs of mine. Tell me if you think any of them sound sibilant. To me, they're quite well recorded and don't sound sibilant. Undoubtedly though, these earphones have quite a bright top end. But I love that, and the bass I'm getting is thunderous!

Check out the FiiO E06 at £21. I'm guessing it'll be decent enough.

I listened to those five tracks through my Fidue A73s and the Stevie Wonder track came closest but it didn't quite hit sibilance.

I do however now have concussion due to my brain bouncing around my skull, the bass in the second track was insane :D

LOL! Yep, sorry about that. The kick drum in that track punches really low, I can feel the air it's pushing, very awesome sub frequency. And that's Pino Palladino on bass, he played on all the Paul Young hits in the 80s. I've been rocking that album on just over half volume and my skull is almost liquid now :p

I'll have to give that a serious listen, Pino Palladino is an amazing bassist, I've heard a lot of him with John Mayer's band.

Great stuff, a man with musical taste! Yeah, John Mayers band is superb with Steve Jordan on drums. Pino does almost everything from The Who to D'Angelo, incredible player. You can see him running up and down the fretboard in this concert, second video down, take it from about 4 minutes into it. It's pretty good sound quality.

I just listen to them all and there is hardly any sibilance at all and I listen with EQ at default 0 so U guess is just the song I listen to. This song has a lot of sibilance but luckily I dont listen to it as much as I use to.

Now the song that you say has a lot of sibilance I'm finding to be fine on the Fidue A73s, it's got quite a lively top end but doesn't quite stray into sibilance.

Thing is, to get as much detail as possible into a recording they have to push at the limits of sibilance as there is so much detail contained in the high frequencies. From what I've read the VSonic 3SD3S is a little more prone to sibilance than the Fidues, so is it's big brother the GR07 but there are far worse culprits out there. You are never going to be able to remove every bit of sibilance from every recording, it just can't be done and I wonder if the producers are pushing the limits higher than they used to because of the predominance of beats, which are much more concerned with the other end of the frequency spectrum. They have all sorts of ways for reducing sibilance at the mastering stage but if they push their filters to much then the for beats users, a huge percentage of listeners, it will sound too dull.

Blame it on the Beats :D

Guys never mind about my sibilance, it's nothing compare to going back for a day to skull candy's cheap ones for £9.99. I replaced 3.5mm jack myself and yes wires were very thin, but I done it :D

By the way SamyBoy, just for your information, you're not alone with picking up on the sibilance. The general consensus on head-fi.org is that the VSD3S is most definitely known to have this, I see many many people mentioning it. So it seems it's not just about how the music is recorded. The newer VSD5 apparently has this too.

This reviewer mentions the sibilance in both the VSD3 and 5, and doesn't recommend either IEMs to anyone (example, yourself) who is sensitive to treble frequencies.

Today I connected vsd3s to my friends sound card and they sound a lot better and not as much sibilance. Although it's Xonar Essence STX. Any recommendation on cheaper sound card or dac/amp? budget £60
