Just had to punch a bloke in B&Q

Not disagreeing with what you are saying but merely adding to it - he could have made a citizens arrest for criminal damage insted.
*second thubs up* Not a gret idea because it's likely to turn into a public order situation, probable allegations of assault and more faffing about than is needed BUT if you really feel like you want to be pro active and you want to do something about it, this is the only option you have.

not when its pretty much clear when i start to cross! the stopped cars tend to get a little stressed if they've stopped and you're just stood there doing **** all!
Pretty much clear?

If there's no cars at all on the other side then fine. If there's anyone coming and they haven't started to slow then you don't cross. Thats the way it works.

Sorry Jack Bauer
I wasn't picking up on your spelling, I just didn't know who he was. I've googled his name now, 24, right?

Yep, Jack Bauer would eat Mason for breakfast.

Prove it. I never read that in my highway code.

"Highway Code" is not actualy the law iirc, but the LAW does state the pedestrians having right of way AT ALL TIMES

Of course it is their problem! The situation would'nt have arisen in the gimp had been taking notice of what was happening around him.
doesn't matter, if someone steps out infront of you and you run them down ITS STILL YOUR FAULT EVEN IF THEY DON'T LOOK

Thats exactly what the OP did, at which point the aforementioned gimp decided to react to the OP doing EXACTLY WHAT YOU STATE HE SHOULD HAVE DONE by committing criminal damage to his property while the OP was present.
doesn't give the OP the right to deck him

i know how it works, which is why i'm usually very aware when i cross the road. and dont complain or give the drivers any crap if i have to swift step to avoid any danger.

No it isn't.

It does in my eyes, as well as the OP, plenty of people here and the eye witness :)

How on earth can you not see the huge holes in your statements?

We seem to be at loggerheads here Gilly, yet in my post I said "NOT" carry on, so where you say EXACTLY ...blah blah...you are mistaken.

At this point I will refuse to comment any further on this matter in regards to certain people's responses out of fear of being Banned.

The only thing I'll say is, despite the COMPLETE BS that some people are pulling out of their bums (i.e. making up imaginary "pedestrian laws" etc, you are TOTALLY WRONG, and should realise if you read the above post by SidewinderINC), what the OP did was entirely human and he has my complete and total support in what he did.

What about idiots who run across the m6 - I nearly hit one, I called the police and when they turned up I asked what would have happened to me If id hit him.

Policeman; "Not Your Fault"

In the case of Zebra crossings they do, but they must make sure that all traffic has stopped before they cross.

The Highway Code
Green Cross Code
Zebra Crossings

"Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross. Vehicles will need more time to stop when the road is slippery. Remember that traffic does not have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing. Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing."

Next you'll be suggesting that a 18 wheeler articulated lorry doing 60 MPH on the M1 would have to slam on the brakes because some ignorant **** head stepped onto the carrageway.

No I'm not. You need to go back and re-read what happened.

Because it is not in the highway code. Its the law.

There are plenty of laws incorporated into the highway code. I would be most surprised if one as important as this was not.

19: Zebra crossings. Give traffic plenty of time to see you and to stop before you start to cross. Vehicles will need more time when the road is slippery. Remember that traffic does not have to stop until someone has moved onto the crossing. Wait until traffic has stopped from both directions or the road is clear before crossing. Keep looking both ways, and listening, in case a driver or rider has not seen you and attempts to overtake a vehicle that has stopped.

Makes sense to me, obviously not others.
