just ordered this baby..

Should have looked at there site better for £650 you could have got yourself a very nice laptop, got two on order myself.

Base Intel® Core™ 2 Duo processor T7500 (2.20 GHz, 800 MHz FSB, 4 MB L2-cache)

Video Card 256MB nVidia® GeForce® 8600M GT

Hard Drive 320 GB (5400rpm) SATA Dual Hard Drive (2x 160GB)

Memory 3072MB 667MHz Dual Channel DDR2 SDRAM (1x1024 + 1x2048 MB)

LCD 17.0" Widescreen WXGA+

Great spec, what's the ecode? Is it a vostro or XPS?

Something interesting I've found: Changing the disk mode (in the BIOS) to ATA rather than AHCI seems to cause a 10MB/sec increase in disk operation speed. Just done multiple HD Tune runs with both, and ATA works out noticeably faster.

On a similar note, my HDD seems to click a fair bit...which is worrying. Does yours do that? It's a Samsung 160GB.

I'll have a look at that tonight!
I've the same disk, and it doesnt really seem to click that loudly. Obviously its audiable, but nothing alarming.

Anyway, if anyone is interested, Ubuntu went straight on without issues. All except the webcam which i've not got working yet (not that bothered)

i've just got one as a replacement for my gaming lappy (2.00 core2duo, 17" 1920x1200 and 7900gs), as they dont sell my current lappy anymore they were going to give me the same spec machine but with a 8600gs  obviously i werent to impressed. After a bit of talking decided on getting a m1330 for a replacement instead (i know its gaming abilities are a bit lackluster but should be ok for cs:s).

Tbh i'm quite happy with the replacement they gave me considering i bought my lappy amost a year ago on a auction site for £999.00.

kidkhaos do you mind me asking how much the above spec set you back? its so confusing at the moment with all these codes and sales etc changing every minute!

£485 for the spec I ordered now, which is £100 less than I paid. Hard to describe how annoyed and disappointed I am. Going to phone Dell on Monday and tell them to take it back, because aside from the massive price drop, I'm not very happy with the machine itself; there's a high-pitched squeal (lots of reports about it on the net), the HDD sounds like it's dying, and there's background hissing when using earphones.

Not happy at all now. I bought this thing because I really wanted it and felt like treating myself for my upcoming 21st birthday, now I find myself resenting the damn thing for all the annoyance it's brought. :(

£485! how so cheap? the cheapest i can get that spec to is about £700 and thats using a 10% discount code. Sorry to hear of your troubles, maybe a replacement will be better?

Just ordered M1330 at £485 too! Well chuffed!

Needless to say I went for all lowest options and but still plenty enough for normal use.

Was that the £539 one that only shows up at the checkout with a 10% discount code?

The one I'm really thinking of getting is going to be £608 but with

T7250
160GB (7200RPM) HDD
LED Screen
6 cell battery

It runs out tomorrow I think. But there is possibly an update coming after that. How difficult is it to cancel with Dell as I'm thinking of ordering then if the update materialises in the next week cancelling the machine and getting the updated version?

Should be fairly easy to cancel - they don't take payment until the day of delivery it seems, so there's no reason why you couldn't just phone up and cancel before that.

Yeah that's the one I got but mine is:

T5500 1.66Ghz
160Gb
X3100
4 cell battery
220nit screen

From the comments on the site this deal is posted it seems really easy to cancel with Dell, a 2 minute call affair.

Finally off the phone with Dell; getting my refund processed in the morning by the senior technician. Such a hassle, it's a shame it's come down to this. Not even sure if I'll bother re-ordering one at a cheaper price, at this point I'm sick of the entire mess.

I ordered this one for £764 delivered:

XPS M1330 CORE 2 DUO T7500 2.20GHz,800,4M

White-LED Display with TrueLife (thinner, brighter & lighter)

Memory Dual-Channel 2048MB (2x1024) 667MHz DDR2 SDRAM

Hard Drive 320GB SATA (5400rpm)

128 MB NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS

6 cell battery

sorry for late replay, dont visit these forum as much without lappy. I never paid anything for my new laptop as it was a free replacement for my inspiron 9400.

Finally got round to ordering one.

T7500
200GB (7200RPM)
LED screen
9 cell battery

£630 delivered from the Outlet store. A better spec all round and only £20 more than the severely discounted one I was hoping to get. The only downside is it's got Vista Business not HP and it's black, I had my heart set on red. :(

AaronW how you manage to get it for that price its over 850 for that config on the website

I haggled over the phone / emails. I told him I could get 10% with a code + a further 5% off using Quidco. He then offered me it at that price and I [aid there and then with him.

My saga continues. Dell are picking up the current one on Monday and I'll get my refund shortly after that. In the meantime, I've ordered its 'replacement' - 1.83GHz CPU (faulty one was 1.66GHz), blue instead of red, LED screen instead of CCFL, and I've gone for the 4 cell battery instead of the 6 cell. Was disappointed that it wasn't as light as I had expected, so I'm hoping the lighter battery and screen change that a bit.

Not sure...I was quite impressed with the 6-cell's battery life, but I was a bit disappointed with the weight of the system as a whole - it didn't feel much lighter than my previous 630m. I tend to run it on mains most of the time anyway so battery life isn't absolutely critical, I'd prefer it to be lightweight. Hopefully the 4-cell battery and the LED screen improve on that.
