Just saw someone jump off the top of a 5 story car park.

Oh do shut up. They could have been suffering from depression, which means they wouldn't have been in the right state of mind. It's not always people just taking their lives for no reason...

No, you shut up.

Why on earth would you risk your own life for the CHANCE of that person not being "in the right state of mind", we're talking about a freaking stranger here not even a friend or family member. Maybe you just have nothing to live for? I'd consider it selfish to my friends and family to risk my own life for some random person prancing around the top of a car park.

I was actually referring to you calling them "muppets", but please do carry on being one yourself..

Actually I would class it as a selfless act, and my friends/family/girlfriend would be very proud of me for it:).

Please try hard to except that not all of us are selfish *****;).

You weren't there, I wasn't there and the cops, for whatever reason, made a judgement call that seemingly didn't involve CPR. Maybe they had intelligence on the jumper that affected a decision to attemp CPR ?

I'm only going by what Asim is saying, they didn't even check for a pulse. But yet the paramedics did cpr. to me that does not make sense. You check for a pulse, not to even check for a pulse is disgusting. If they checked for a pulse and decided not to perform cpr. Then fair enough. I'm certainly not trying to tar all officers with the same brush.

And I agree Asim did exactly the right thing.

People just assume anyone who wishes to end their life prematurely are just nut jobs and deserve it. That's the society we live in, nobody gives a toss.

I crashed my motorbike a few years ago. Although I was fine, my bike was obstructing a 60mph country road which gets very busy. At least 15 cars just drove around it, the occupants trying hard not to look at me as I tried to pull myself out of a thorny bush (my boots had ripped off, wasn't pleasant!).

There's not much you can do for someone after a fall like that. It'd take you 2 mins to get over the shock and by that point it sounds like the right people were on scene anyway. All we need to do is pick up the phone, that's all that is needed. I know people who vomit at the sight of blood, we're not all wired up the same but it seems those who think filming it is the right thing to do then they need shoving off the roof too :(

I doubt they'd be very proud if you were dead.

How is it selfish that I wouldn't want to try and do something as idiotic as catching somebody freefalling from a 5 story car park? Are you mental?

and wow, check you out. Trying to swear at me on the internet. WHOA.

I was actually referring to you calling them "muppets", but please do carry on being one yourself..

Nothing wrong with my choice of words.

If this is real and Asim's not making it up then that's pretty bad people stood there filming it. :S

Although I guess people always take pictures and record this kind of thing whilst its going on; Diana's death, 9/11, 7/7, etc.

Not everyone has that attitude, I for one don't:rolleyes:.

One has sympathy, but the first rule of trying to rescue someone is to not put your own life at risk. It's a hard call though, if it was a loved one then I guess most people would put their own life at risk to try and save them.

I thought of recording it and my phone even has slow motion recording, but then i thought no way. It's totally disrespecful to her friends and family, and it's better in my head than transferred through bluetooth and all over the internet.

As much as you might want to save someone, you made the right choice, she was dead before she let go of the railing, she had already made her mind up. Who knows what troubles caused her to do such a thing, I feel for her family and friends as much I feel for her, she must have been very troubled.

The police have a difficult enough job dealing with this sort of thing on a daily basis, they have to be hard to it to deal with this sort of issue day in day out and even then most officers have regular counselling, just remember the police are human beings and anyone with any intelligence would know that you fall that far onto a hard surface most of your bones will be crushed or broken and your internal organs would just explode, she wouldn't have stood a chance CPR or not and the police knew that because they deal with it everyday.

Note: The ambulance were trying because it was their job, but it was a token gesture, not for the fact it would have saved her life. Also amatuer medics or professionals, you can do more harm than good, the police have to secure the area first having people rush in to help slipping on blood and hitting the girl would cause even more damage, the ambulance and paramedics are the one's to administer aid. You need a cool head in these situations not a rush and panic.

My Mates a copper and a good one at that and when you see a tough guy breakdown because he can't find a reason why someone wants to kills themselves and leave such carnage for others to deal with, then starts saying what if I drove faster, took more risks maybe I could have gotten there sooner and blames himself, sends a chill down you. So to all the police bashers out there before you criticise them walk a mile in their shoes, because I tell you you wouldn't last 10 yards.

Whatever the reason people commit suicide, its the aftermath they leave behind that gets me. So sad to see people in pain knowing they will never get answer trying to come to terms with it all.

May she now Rest in Peace.

Thread locking in 3..2...

Good point about the ambulance though, why did they attempt cpr and not the police?

When the Police arrive on such a scene their job is to secure it as its effectively a crime scene. Also they are not always allowed to approach such an incident, not through choice either. Good points raised in the post above too.

Agreed. Undoubtedly, I'd throw myself in there for a loved one. I'd possibly do it for a random too, but I've never been in that position to know what I'd feel like at the time. As you say though, it's a tough call.

How old was she? What sort of people were standing around filming?

How are they muppets, if it is not their fault?

I'm not going to continue this pointless argument with you, no matter what I say you are going to strike back with something like "but they weren't in the right state of mind" every time.

It would appear I hit a nerve, the simple fact is if I see somebody prancing around a roof then I will probably just think to myself "WTH is that idiot doing?" that would just be my reaction to seeing such a thing, I don't know the person so trying to understand their psychological issues isn't my problem.

Yes I'm mental and I didn't try, I did swear at you:confused:.

Oh right I didn't know there was a swear consisting of stars. My bad bro.

<Stupid comment>

Not exactly a nice thing to ask him is it? Fool.

OP - I've seen someone get hit by a car right infront of me, not nice. My mind blocked it out and i still can't recall the impact to this day.

I hope you are ok as you say, i imagine it was a pretty nasty experience. Look after your mum to!

You did the right thing, nothing more you could have done.
