"Just stop oil"

What's the difference, besides the accents?

One is protesting actual events that take place or will take place. The other is people deliberately obstructing the very people they're trying to garner support from and alienating them in the process.

And yes, I do think that the latest round of "protesting" in France is ridiculous and I wholeheartedly exclude it from my comparison.

I'm very much a strong believer in "**** around and find out".

The reason these vermin get away with this is because our laws don't stop them. It's high time someone took one for the team and sent them a message the good old fashioned way.
So if you're taking too long at a checkout in a supermarket, it's okay for somebody to punch you because you're holding up their day ? Because that's where this kind of behaviour leads to

I look forward to reading about your day in court.

So more Guardian opinion pieces, just as bad as the Sun but opposite end of the scale.

I went from thinking these protest were pretty dumb to absolutely loving how much they're ******* people off. We're smashing temperature records day after day and gammons are crying their entertainment was interrupted for a couple of minutes .

It would be nice if that was the only problem with these protests... and they are going to achieve precisely nothing towards climate change if anything possibly work somewhat against efforts to raise awareness as those campaigning along more useful lines are going to risk being clumped in with them, etc.

How is it any different to your day being held up because you're in a car ? You either advocate violence or you don't you don't get to cherry pick from your arse what inconveniences allow for violence and what don't

Agree with what you've said but a lorry driver on a 13 hour shift and running out of driving hours with the delay making the difference between getting home to their bed or having to make do somewhere for the night is going to see a queue of cars because it is busy or whatever very differently to people like this holding them up and while I don't condone it I can see why they'll increasingly see red if they are encountering it very often, and that is just one example.

There's an article literally 2 comments up arguing their protests are helping the cause. Scientists have been going on and on about climate change for decades and people still don't care, of course people are going to start taking more 'extreme' measures.

So what exactly are the other problems with these protests other than they mildly inconvinece a small number of people.

There is quite a lot of nuance to that article and it does kind of try to spin an underlying point which doesn't necessarily work indiscriminately and IMO isn't working here as nearly every instance where they've come up in conversation any climate aspects haven't been a feature of the discussion with people largely unsure of what they are actually protesting about.

Previous protests have disrupted emergency vehicles and caused, unnecessarily, situations with a high risk of danger to the general public amongst other problems, though fortunately they seem to be moving away from those style of protests currently towards higher profile disruption against entertainment, etc.

These are experts, they are not random or without merit. I wish people would direct all this anger at the people who are really betraying us: the governments and big corporations.

It seems people want a crisis equal to COVID x 100 because that's what will happen if we don't deal with this properly beforehand and keep letting our politicians break their promises on the climate and pollution.

It's not even remotely relevant, shopping is something every single person on the face of the planet has to do, sitting in a road inconveniencing others is something not a single person on the face of the planet has to do.

If we were taking this seriously the world's politicians would be putting us on a war footing to deal with this crisis. That would be a proportionate response to its scale.
