"Just stop oil"

These are experts, they are not random or without merit. I wish people would direct all this anger at the people who are really betraying us: the governments and big corporations.

It seems people want a crisis equal to COVID x 100 because that's what will happen if we don't deal with this properly beforehand and keep letting our politicians break their promises on the climate and pollution.

We are pretty much screwed really - capitalism has a significant hand to blame in the inertia both at the overall system level and an individual level.

I saw a comment related to people not stopping to notice beauty in the world around them but I think it can also be transposed to the subject of climate change.

People have to get to work and appointments. Point the finger at capitalism here; where money is used to express value and those without are bereft of both money and time.
This feels like another shallow thinkpiece where you judge individuals instead of the system that reinforces and guides their behavior

Though there are also far too many people who just don't care due to short sighted thinking and/or lacking intelligence.

We are truly screwed if we keep going along as we are (barring a miracle of course, but I wouldn't bet all life on earth on that), but there is still a chance to at least greatly mitigate the damage and potentially spur another industrial revolution.

The human race is on the way out, but this member ain't going out with a single LED lamp on, whilst wrapped in three blankets, pumping the tyres up on my `bike, just because Greta is pontificating again on the TV, or some oiks are playing silly buggers in the road, or asking for a good kicking at some event people have looked forward to for months and paid good money to attend.

**** `em :)

It's not even remotely relevant, shopping is something every single person on the face of the planet has to do, sitting in a road inconveniencing others is something not a single person on the face of the planet has to do.
It's entirely relevent, you're advocating violence for somebody being inconvenienced on the road, you can't just draw an arbitrary line and say one inconveniece is acceptable for violence and another is not, just because it suits you, everybody has different levels of tolerance for inconveniece for different things, so if you can attack people for holding you up on the road, you can attack people for holding you up anywhere else, even if we keep things solely to the road, you're basically advocating road rage

you must be trolling because it's not even remotely the same thing. give it up.

You're clutching. And failing.

They have a right to protest, the police have the right to move them on if they're blocking the road, you don't have a right to not be inconvenienced, or get violent with those inconveniencing you literally anywhere, in a shop or on the road

I think everyone agrees with need to leave our carbon based fuels in the ground as clearly storing carbon in the atmosphere is way too expensive. I don’t think people laying in the street and throwing confetti in a country with very low emissions fixes that problem much.

It's got nothing to do with rights, I couldn't give a monkey's about their rights. It's about being a decent human being and not preventing people from living their lives. Just every day normal people, the ones who have absolutely zero power to change anything. Even if they did, I can say with absolute certainty that nobody's getting home after being stuck for a few hours and thinking "you know what? I'm going to cancel that drilling contract". Nobody. Not one person.

Yet these vermin seem to struggle with that concept, their goals might be good, but the way they're attempting to achieve them is completely counterproductive towards their goal.

Not directly, but their actions mean we and particularly the politicians can never ignore this issue again.

You're the one who made up the straw man about slow people in a shop.

They don't have the right to block the road. Which is why the police charge them.

You're ranting now, we're discussing your advocation for assaulting these people, not about what they're protesting about

They don't charge them, they move them along and only charge if they refuse to move, a technicality JSO abuse is moving very slowly along the road, which they are within their rights to do, but ultimately none of what they do gives anyone the right to assault them, you must be particularly unhinged if you get violent when inconvenienced or advocate for such violence and it's not a straw man, it's literally the same thing, somebody doing something which inconveniences your day and you resorting to violence for it, the scenario doesn't matter, it's about inconvenience and violence. I get it everybody is in a rush to get everywhere all the time, perhaps that's part of the problem, people should chill and relax and not be in a rush and if they are, they should plan for inconveniences
I couldn't give a monkey's about their rights.
Well that's clear when you're advocating people assaulting them

I'm not ranting at all, I'm just amazed at the way your brain works. And yes, I do believe that sometimes in life, respect needs to be taught the good old fashioned way. We've cultivated a society where people must be mollycoddled their entire life and look where that's got us. Teachers who get fired for breaking up fights, people lying in streets because they get away with it, that's just the two examples I can think of right now. Sometimes fear is an excellent instrument, however in our society there is none.

It's coming, mark my words. Sooner or later they're going to get in the way of the wrong person on the wrong day and they're going to regret it. It's a shame that that's what it's going to take for our limpwristed pathetic government to do anything about it, but it is what it is. I can only hope that when it does happen, it's minimal.

Peoples' patience is running out, and deservedly so. As the Dutch very eloquently say:

"Those who won't listen, will feel"

Well something has to change because this country has gone utterly down the pan lately. Being soft on people appears to have had completely the wrong effect.
