"Just stop oil"

Reasonable physical force.... But sure use reasonable force on me for not using the recycling bins and I will defend myself from being assaulted.

Then go after the government, the ones who will ensure change on to us civilians. Going after us civi's does nothing for your cause.

Also if earth is your home, you can never be classed as homeless surely.

I agree, reasonable force is key. Encouragement is always better. Put a big tax on plastic packaging then you won't have anything to recycle as you'll be re-using packaging.
The government will listen to those that have the most money. At the moment it's the oil lobby, not the environmentalists. They need to be heard, you can't deny that closing the QE-II bridge did that.

I wish protest could be non-intrusive. The Green party got 2.7% of the vote in the last election that should have resulted in nearly 20 MPs and a real voice. But we ended up with a single Green MP. If voting doesn't work how else do we achieve change at a national government level. Look up carbon-tax as a source of UBI and renewable funding, there are better ways forward.

We are not going to be able to simply all have air-con and star-trek food synthesisers.

People should be allowed to protest though...I dont agree with the milk nonsense and spraying paint everywhere though to be honest.

As for the QE2, how can they be forced down?

This is not a protest. They're disrupting and stopping other people's way of life. I'm looking at these protesters and seeing what looks to be most of them age 48 years old and up. With nothing to do with their time except to annoy the hell out of others day to day life. Very rarely am I seeing 25 - 32 year olds. Which I'm quite surprised, plus they all look like they need a good wash for the time they all seem to have.

I heard that Just Stop Oil are mostly funded (indirectly) by Aileen Getty, an heiress to one of the biggest oil firms going... It's a simple plan when you think it through:

1. Fund organisation that appears to be against your own industry

2. Have that organisation encourage mentally ill people and posing privileged white kids to do the most moronic, self defeating ridiculous bits of headline grabbing "activism" you can

3. ???

4. Gain the ability to instantly make out anyone who tries to raise concerns about the oil industry are totally crazy

There was an interesting "documentary" (I use the term loosely) on the BBC recently about the way in which "big oil" set about deliberately mis-leading and seeding these kinds of actions and doubts around climate change for similar reasons.. enabling them to effectively "dismiss" any claims as extremist nonsense for years.

I would not put it past them to continue in that same vein just with different methods.

Playing devil's advocate....

If someone threatens my house and my life I am allowed to use reasonable force to stop them. Very few people disagree with that premise.

Now, imagine that Earth is where I live (it is) and that my life is at risk because of global warming (it is). Surely I am entitled to take action to protect my home?

In 20 or 50 years time getting to work an hour late because QE-II bridge is closed will be nothing compared to world-wide crop failures, freak weather, floods, wildfires, mass migration due to starvation everywhere south of Europe.

All they are trying to do is make people and governments WAKE UP and do something to protect our children and their children.
That's not Devil's Advocate, that's simply making a ridiculous attempt at justifying criminal behaviour.

I've said for years that we are now at the stage where we need a benevolent dictator with an aversion to political correctness and spurious health and safety issues.
You've also said that choosing your future wife was a similar process to choosing your dog.

So yea, we get it; You'll say anything for a bit of attention. Consider this reply another chink of spotlight shining on little ole you. ;)

If there was fear from the Police like the 80s and 90s, this wouldn't be happening. There was a time once you would be locked up for spitting in the streets. Police walking the streets knowing and dealing with the potential trouble makers. They knew who they were and there was a sense of fear about causing trouble. Now you don't even get locked up for vandalism. Even when it's happening in front of the Police.

Now you can say something wrong online such as twitter and it's not derogatory and you could be getting visits from the Police over hate crimes.

The priorities are all wrong.

I wonder who as told the police to do nothing?

I don't know how it can be justified to allow a protest to go on when its against the law.
The monologue at the end about "greedy white men".

It's the same self-loathing middle class trustafarians as it is in most of these movements (BLM / Extinction Rebellion / Occupy etc)

I agree with him. We have got to the point where people need a bit of a kicking up the backside and a bit of authority in there life.

The police should be feared and respected. You could have respect only but unfortunately you need fear to get the latter with most people.

Police should be respected, but never feared. That is entirely the wrong mindset. You do not police or rule via fear, That is the remit of bullies and dictators.

Have you just posted that nonsense from the top of the QE2 bridge?

I understand that but the problem is some people will just not respect the police and fear is the only way. Perhaps not physical far but fear of consequences for ones actions.

Just been called and I have delivery in Belvedere tomorrow. :( I hope they have got them down by then.
