"Just stop oil"

Saw a locked reddit thread this evening (can't find it now), pretty much all the top comments and expanded conversations were in complete support of them and most objections were replied with 'well what do you expect them to do to get their point across'. Angered the hell out of me that it was locked to new comments, but was still trending with absolute BS of encouraging/defending the behaviour.
yeah I dont use reddit a lot or have a ton of karma points or whatever they are, but did comment on a reddit post about it and deary me the dislikes and ridiculous comments I got in return, lost pretty much all positive karma I had on there lol

Funny how intolerant the Internet is these days. Life seems to be all conditioned for likes and downvotes across every forum board everywhere. You'll get downvoted for just having an opinion but it's the wrong one. Who would have thought school mob life has now spread worldwide.

Well, what do you expect them to do? The government have admitted there’s a climate emergency. They admit there’s a huge problem, but have done nothing to actually address it. Rather they have taken measures to cause more harm.
People have been telling the government about the issues for years, direct action is required if they don’t listen.
I reckon if this forum was around in the good ol’ days, many of you would say it’s just desserts that women die when throwing themselves in front of the kings horse and how they definitely don’t deserve to be listened to or get the vote.

I’m not saying I agree with their views or actions, but I do think direct action is necessary if other measures haven’t been listened to. It’s very sad to see people on here wishing them death and injury due to some inconvenience in their lives.

Nope, last thing I did on Reddit was ask where to visit in south Amsterdam. A day trip I’m making on a plane to go to a restaurant. So let’s not paint me as some eco warrior. Im just trying to further the debate but if you’re not interested in good faith debate then cheerio!

Why not just murder the government? That would be targeted direct action. The suffragettes ran a bombing campaign that only failed to kill people because they weren't skilled enough at bomb-making. It's much easier to make bombs nowadays, so success is much more likely. Had it not been for WW1, the suffragettes would have succeeding in murdering people eventually.

What these people are doing is just hypocrisy, attention-seeking and power-seeking. That's why they're trying to be as inconvenient as possible to as many people as possible. They have neither an understanding of the issues they use as an excuse for their actions nor any idea of a solution for them.

This idea that they are hypocrites, because they use oil, is an amateur and deliberate misreprensation of their position. They are against new oil exploration and drilling licenses. They aren’t against oil full stop.
But it’s you, so I don’t expect facts to worry you. Surprised you didn’t have your normal rant about gender politics in there as well!

Their policies are on their website, and they don’t say they want to get rid of all oil. So how are they hypocrites?

It was a small joke, nothing to get serious about. I can see this topic is very near and dear to you, so a ‘debate’ wouldn’t do anything but waste our time.

The problem as I see it is the court and prison system.

Prisons too full and the Judges, maybe aware of the prison population, not jailing criminals, even when some have a string of convictions in the double digits.

What? I even said I didn’t necessarily agree with their aims or actions. I’m getting on a plane, to go for lunch in a different country and come back the same day… that should tell you all you need to about my green credentials!
I was just curious about what you think they can and should do to be heard if their message isn’t being listened to by the very people who accept their message is right.
But if you’re incapable of discussion then my mistake for trying to engage in good faith!

That's rather unlikely to be true because buying oil from further away and then having it shipped here in huge tankers burning huge quantities of very polluting fuel is clearly worse than drilling for it closer to home.

But it’s you, so I don’t expect facts to worry you. Surprised you didn’t have your normal rant about gender politics in there as well!

You brought up the suffragettes, not me.

See above. If, as you claim, they're actually in favour of doing more environmental damage by importing oil then that makes them hypocrites. If they're claiming to be opposed to oil use while using oil, that makes them hypocrites. Either way, they're hypocrites. Also, they're not targeting the government. They're targeting as many people as possible, almost none of whom are in government.

And they have neither an understanding of the issues they use as an excuse for their actions nor any idea of a solution for them. All they're doing is making things worse for as many people as possible. Sooner or later they'll kill someone and they won't care. Just collateral damage.

I see Bravermans been on the sauce again...

Referring to the disruption recently seen - which has included two demonstrators attaching themselves to the masts of the Queen Elizabeth II Bridg - Ms Braverman gave a long list of who was to blame.

She told MPs: "Yes, I'm afraid, it's the Labour Party, it's the Lib Dems, it's the coalition of chaos, it's the Guardian-reading, tofu-eating wokerati, dare I say, the anti-growth coalition that we have to thank for the disruption that we are seeing on our roads today."

I’m sure this has been mentioned but I CBA to read the whole thread. Are we appalled that the protesters have stopped the last remaining 1/3rd of an ambulance in Essex being delayed? All those hard working people delayed just to contribute to a shrinking economy and a client who is putting their bill on a credit card? Has the home secretary blamed it on immigrants yet?

Look to Westminster for the angst tbh. Anything the government can do to make you look elsewhere to blame is a nice freebee for them.

If the country can’t deal with minor disruption, well you know who to thank.

Thankyou - I think I can find the video plus her opposite number‘s response….

The police should only be catching the criminals. They do not punish the criminals. The criminals should only fear being caught by the police. They should not be physically afraid of attack from the police.
It's not always cost effective to detain and prosecute people for misdemeanors though. Back in the day a clip round the ear, don't do it again and on your way was the sensible option.

yeah i just think we have complete opposing beliefs on the whole thing. See if they were to fall to their death, my only thought for a split second would be ’play stupid games, win stupid prizes’ and then move on with my day without looking into their cause/aims/objectives any further. Simple as.

while their end goal may be noble and correct. Creating hostility with the general public by ‘inconveniencing’ them at a time of already heightened stress is not going to go well for them or their cause, well in my case anyway.

Yeah, I spotted a couple of those yesterday, polar opposite to anyone with a braincell.

Are the idiots still up there or have they come down yet? I've not been following it.

I went over the bridge this morning and it was clear. A lot of police about however. As I went over I thought you would never catch me climbing up there!
