"Just stop oil"

I agree with you. The current system is far, far from perfect. Capitalism relies on exploitation, for one person to get rich, they have to make someone else poor. Anyway, this is derailing the thread.

Suffice to say, more oil/gas licences which will not produce any output for 10 years is *NOT* the answer we need on a planet being destroyed by global warming. Renewables, storage and reduction of energy use is the only sensible path.
That's not how capitalism works at all, yes it's far from perfect, but unless you're some Marxist, the people getting rich from new ventures are generally the ones who take all the risk. The guy sitting on the construction line is trading his labour for a wage that he's agreed too, he's free to remove that labour at anytime and go elsewhere or take all the risk and start something of his own. Capitalism has pulled more people out of poverty and increased living standards far more than any other system that's been tried.

This loony?
Yeah she was a bit cultist in a way, but really they need a proper media spokesperson.

Sky gave her a lot of air time, but also kept asking the same question, and the answer was so obvious, it drawn attention to their message, if they did non disruptive protesting, they wouldnt be in the news and we wouldnt be talking about them. The problem of course is they now in the news with the wrong thing been talked about.

You can almost see his words bouncing off her face, she has absolutely zero intention to listen to any reason or logic.

This is a side effect of raising kids where nobody's a loser, everyone's perfect and everyone's opinion is right.

I still reckon we should start a fundraiser so they can go block up some highways in Johannesburg. They'll very quickly learn that there's a time and a place for these things.

She was put in a lose lose, they need someone who knows how to handle the media really.

If you compare this to lynch e.g. who didnt get the same type of response to the disruptive strikes. As he is media trained.

Effectively its clear to see she is brainwashed that only climate change matters, and has been little though of the repercussions of what they doing, but at the same time the wider public only care about been blocked on their daily routines and not of the fossil fuel problem. I kind of compare this to the plastic bags problem in supermarkets, they have been dropped for environment reasons but without thought of the consequences.

Population decline will lead to collapse of society.

Well then we are screwed. Not in my lifetime or that of my daughters, but unless world population is addressed, faster and faster use of the worlds natural resources will occur. I don't believe that humans can resist the wealth and power derived from possessions and some kind of sylvan coexistence with nature and with ever increasing density of humans on the planet is impossible.
Nature will out and there will be some catastrophies, man made or natural to reset the balance. A Yellowstone or similar is overdue and that would dump millions of tons of greenhouse gas and solids into the atmosphere.
The UK cannot solve global temperature rise as we now contribute relatively little and it is falling. The major sources of warming are the BRICS, and the newly developed nations eager to support the billions of their populations into cars on concrete highways into concrete and steel towers. Large internal flight networks, industrial cities etc, etc.

I feel sorry for her that she isn't able to articulate the absurdity of the questions, "how can you justify the inconvenience you're causing drivers" all she had to say was "how can they justify destroying her & billions others future just because they don't want to be inconvenienced now"
Thats the thing, the questions and her replies will be lost because of the way she was, people wont hear the questions and answers, instead all they will take from the interview is "what a nutter". As I say, yet more terrible tactics by Just Stop Oil, I really dont know who is running their campaign strategy but they really havent got a scooby doo how to run an effective campaign

At the end of the day they do make some good points, and they're certainly raising awareness for their cause which is undeniably one we should all be getting behind tbh. The problem is that rather than have rational, reasonable debates and answer questions like adults, they sulk on motorways, have strops on live TV and turn on the false tears every time they face a challenging situation. Add to this that the answer to every question they are asked can be boiled down to "oil bad" and they're literally destroying any support they could've garnered.

That being said, it may well be intentional, as coming across as a deluded idiot who probably eats soup with chopsticks certainly gets them on the news. I really hope that's the case anyway, for if it isn't and this is the state of future generations, I'd also be trying to move to another planet.

this is the state of future generations, sadly you see it everwhere.

She is 28 ffs! Seriously needs to grow up and learn how to pitch an argument.

The wests population has peaked we are on the crusp of a major decline which brings with it massive problems, this is in part one of the reasons Germany let in 1000000 future taxpayers, sorry I mean immigrants.

Not addressing the issue. We have mass deforestation, we have mass species extinction. Not because of air pollution but of humans wish to propagate across the planet. Our use of hydrocarbons is a side issue, the main one is the space that each individual person takes on the planet surface. Immigration is just moving blocks of humans around the map. Ultimately it does naff all to solve overpopulation. As for this little island, if we did reduce our population gradually over time, accommodations to that situation would also gradually arise.

Imagine the dinosaurs looking at us from dinosaur heaven, destroying ourselves, wishing they had a second chance, at least it was nature which destroyed them, not their own hubris and thirst

That's all well and good but in terms of climate change and having an earth to live on in the future it is unsustainable.

It sounds like just stop oil have just stopped :p

She comes across as a complete lunatic. ‘We need everyone to come join us’ - well you won’t achieve it this way. They really do sound thick and privileged. This lot have probably used more oil than anyone. I guarantee our local lot have used more oil living in their multimillion pound house.

‘I represent my generation’. No you don’t and if you want to, run for parliament.
