"Just stop oil"

But they're not doing anything other than being annoying and making things worse. They're certainly not doing anything to fix the problems.
Being annoying is the point of protesting though I find it hilarious how few people seem to understand this. If your protest isn’t annoying people nobody knows it’s happening. They are getting the issues discussed they are getting air time for the issue they have chosen to protest about that is the point!

There is always a balance point to it though - these kind of protestors make it all about them not the issue so people are talking about the disruption they cause and the issue gets lost in the noise.

On a per capita basis, China has far less pollution. And ironically, they are making some big strides in renewables, centrally planned economy and whatnot, makes it a bit...

China is also a fascist dictatorship who we take no lessons from. They are one of the top fossil fuel burners however many wind turbines they also construct. China uses more cement in construction than most other countries put together, another huge source of carbon dioxide production.

I have no issues with the Chinese people, I have serious issues with China on a political level in terms of its expansionism and the way it treats it's dissidents.

I don't think the issue is lost in the noise if anything it is amplifying the issue these groups are getting a hue amount of airtime to make their points that simply wouldn't happen if they protested quietly in a corner.

All I can say is if the conversation comes up at home or work, etc. no one knows what they are actually protesting about... and most people just think them a bunch of bored people causing a nuisance.

No course, but that's separate to the issue of carbons emissions by the country. If you look at gross total, it doesn't tell the full picture.

Except TCM. Which is still responsible for wildlife slaughter on an industrial scale, including endangeroud speicies.

And sadly, TCM isn't dying out, with younger Chinese people still practicing it.

I know here in the UK we wiped out many of our own native species centuries ago, but that was before my time ;)

The issue I see being discussed a lot is mostly how disconnected these people are from the real world, or what their real motives are for protesting.
I'm never thinking about the planet from the actions of "Just Stop Oil". I'm just thinking what vulgar term best applies to the specific protestor I see, or if they've ever done a day's work.

Apparently this year India's population will exceed China's and between them they have 2.8 Billion souls. I'll be honest I think we have no chance in cutting global CO2 emissions to a level that suits the hair shirt brigade in any realistic timeframe. Too many poor people want the standard of living we have enjoyed for decades, and at present the only way to deliver it is the way we did, fossil fuels. We need to focus on mitigation and breakthrough technologies. Renewables plus batteries isn't going to do the trick I don't think.

Did Greta and Co clearly explain what they were protesting against .. just had the benefit of being a vulnerable contingent so the police couldn't shift them, or the public, moving them on, like JSO/ER protestors;

JSO are now helping with marathon - the carbon footprint of people travelling to participate in the hobby of worldwide marathons can't be trivial though - can think of lots of places I'd rather run;
they will be protecting runners from Greta, statue folks, ER.

China their goods about 6% of uk emissions
in 2019, emissions associated with imports from China to England were 38 mt CO2e, which is 19 per cent higher than the 2001 level of 32 mt CO2e. They now account for 12 per cent of the emissions associated with imports, compared to 8 per cent in 2001.... chinese .

Anyone who agrees with the snooker protest is an utter moron
How about we as a global community meet our commitments on reducing the use of fossil fuels (rather than reneging on them) and then these protests would not be necessary.

As a snooker fan I know which inconveniences me more by orders of magnitude and it's the catastrophic effects of the climate crisis.

You do know the bloke who did this is nothing more than a rent a yob?

It just annoys me that this scrote begs others for money to live so he can carry on causing trouble and not have to get a job.
The government are the scrotes :cry: and my frustration lies with them for failing us. Have you seen how much cash they have hoovered up for themselves and their friends through dodgy dealings?

That snooker protester was playing with fire, messing with those snooker players.

It just goes to show the personal risks that these protestors are willing to take.
