Can you imagine how Hurricane Higgins would have reacted if this was his match that was interupted?
Never going to happen. People have been sucked into a cult and they're going to die of old age along with their grandkids and wish they were more productive with their lifeIf we carry on down this path then when the crisis hits people will be saying that they wish there had been more protests and we had listened, mark my words.
Agree, its very short sighted to be complaining about minor inconveniences in the short term. I'd love to see how opinions on Insulate Britain, for example, might have changed in recent times as the cost of energy really hits. They were 100% correct. If we carry on down this path then when the crisis hits people will be saying that they wish there had been more protests and we had listened, mark my words.
Part of me wishes they'd spend their energy helping individuals and communities understand what they could do to live more sustainably while reducing GHG emissions.
I understand that they are trying to solicit large scale change by pressuring Government, but I don't think they've done enough, if anything, to get the 'every person' on side.
As noted throughout the thread, the general public perception seems to be that JSO are an inconvenience as opposed to a group whose views should be given consideration.
Apologies, my opening line wasn't a dig at JSO, more my thoughts about how they could have more impact on public opinion. They arent trying to get every person on board. They already know they dont give a **** due to the misinformation like the dross that is posted here about climate change and polution.
All they are doing is trying to get the government to follow the policies they claimed they wanted but have now gone back on them.
Putting pressure on governments doesn't feel effective if the broad electorate aren't also on board.
To be fair all they need to do is annoy the public enough to then start to make the government fall into line.
Possibly asleep, possibly unaware, possibly apathetic. I don't know.To be fair all they need to do is annoy the public enough to then start to make the government fall into line. This is not much different to the NHS strikes with the government complaining all these strikes are harmful to the NHS and its patience. All the blame is put on the strikers and not the terrible government that are inflicting all this terrible managment on the country.
Its not for protestors to explain anything to the public, they arent a teaching group but a protest group.
The problem here is people are making the protestors the villian while it really is the government. have people been a sleep for the last 13 years? The Tories are so far up the dirty energies holes they have tide marks at the ankles.
On a sidenote, its absolutely insane that 2 countries can have a total population of 2.8Billion.Apparently this year India's population will exceed China's and between them they have 2.8 Billion souls. I'll be honest I think we have no chance in cutting global CO2 emissions to a level that suits the hair shirt brigade in any realistic timeframe. Too many poor people want the standard of living we have enjoyed for decades, and at present the only way to deliver it is the way we did, fossil fuels. We need to focus on mitigation and breakthrough technologies. Renewables plus batteries isn't going to do the trick I don't think.
Let's hope the protestor has professional indemnity insurance. And pays taxes on their income.
Well its only an anecdote, so I'm sure it will be easily dismissed but my neice is at Bristol University and during the BLM thing she (and some of her friends) were approached by a company who essentially do hire-a-protestor, and offered £150 to attend a weekend protest/march.Have we got a source on the whole professional thing? I’ve been paid for a lot of things and appearances but never activism.

Obviously thats not JSO, its a different protest, but it does go to show that there are companies out there that do it, especially in terms of university students who a) usually have a need for the dosh and b) are already predisposed to be anti-government (and particularly anti-tory government)..makes them prime targets for those sorts of companies.
