Kimi Raikkonen to Renault

My god this can only end badly. He struggled for motivation in the biggest team in F1, midfield at Lotus Renault?

I loved Kimi in his early Mclaren years but he never seemed as on it with Ferrari especially post gadget removal. He's hardly known to be the brightest and technical gifted, I'm just not sure how he will get on with these tyres.

I would love to see the speed he had at Mclaren return but I really don't think he can be consistent enough anymore.

Such a shame he didn't take the Red Bull drive when he had the chance.

This is interesting, i wonder how much money will be coming from Kimi himself, he got 44 million not to drive for Ferrari, so maybe a chunk of cash bought him the seat and will help the Lotus team

undoubtedly good for Kimi - just surprised Renault went for him thats all

They need a quick and experienced driver after not having Kubica available.. seems a good choice to me. As mentioned above, the second seat will then go to whoever brings the most money I expect.

Renault lose their way a little this year - demonstrated by them giving up on the car half way through the season and concentrating on next year.

If Kimi can show the sort of pace Kubica was in 2010 (which he may not having being out for 2 years) then I can imagine him sneaking into some 5th and 6th positions, maybe even a podium or two. Massa should watch out that's for sure :)

Haha, i laughed at that interview. gotta love his honesty and how chilled out he is.

I cant wait to see him back in F1, i think he will outperform his car at the very least!!!

100% agree - think hes the best Renault could have hoped for - whatever happens it could be epically bad or an EPIC WIN, Kimi never does average...
I fully expect to see a Mr. Whippy van in each pit lane next year :p
Pretty sure its gonna be the pace/safety car next year :) - the pit crew will use the tune to entice him in for a pit stop...

Hopefully Renault produce a good enough car for him to push a few of the front runners - even if it isn't consistantly. Whilst the car was rubbish this year it hasn't been too bad until then. Went well in Kubica and Alonso's hands atleast.

Great to have 6 champions on the grid too!

Just out of interest how would you classify his last year at Ferrari before quiting, surely that was .....average?

He didnt seem to get the most out of the car he had from what I recall (but more than happy to be corrected)

I dont disagree - I just cant see how Kimi is going to magic the required motivation for anything like a full season, but we shall see :)

That was epic fail more than just average, hes got high standards and when hes off them hes nowhere near and just goes to the other side of the spectrum IMHO. In that season he had some rare awesome drives, but a lot of the time he was nowhere...

I think thats far more his temperament than other F1 drivers who may try to avoid the lull in performance to at least get average, Ive never got that impression that Kimi even did that when hes not on it...

Huh? In his last year at Ferrari the team were amazed at how quick he was in that awful car. So i'm pretty sure his performance was above average
So why did they let him loose from a contract and pay him tens of millions to leave their team if they were wholly impressed by Kimi in 2009? Having Alonso in the wings doesnt really account for all that...

Im sorry but he just never showed his brillance too often in that season and Ferrari just ended up being fed up for a driver that just showed no commitment or drive...

Just have a look at the comments here - hes well known for being brillant on his day, but that depends if the ice-cream is flowing or not or if he needs a whizz ;):p

EDIT: For goodness sake, he was being outscored by Massa until he had his accident - above average performance, no chance...

Yes it does.

Ferrari are a 1 driver team. Schumacher was pushed aside to get Kimi in. Kimi was pushed aside to get Alonso in.

Kimi had been built up to be this absolute pinnacle driver, and was then dropped by the only team prepared to pay what they had made him believe he was worth.

Infact, not even dropped. Ferrari bought him out of his contract. It was no surprise he turned his back on the sport after that.
