Know any Weeaboos?

And that's bad because...?

In the case of weeaboos it's bad because they are trying to be something they can completely not be. I get that they like Japan etc. and would like to be part of it, but when you are a white person that has no looks towards being part of it I just don't get the trying to hard.

If I wanted it that bad I'd sort it out so I could go there and experience Japan, the sad part of it is most weeaboos can't/won't ever go, but will just look and think '"I'm part of that.", when they truly are not.

Emo, Goth etc. whilst not my choices of personal direction I can see and understand properly, I mean they aren't trying to be a whole different culture to what they are, just trying to be different from the norm.

I think that lot makes sense.

I don't think they all dislike themselves, or are particularly unhappy. It's just simple escapism. Some people like star trek, some people like posting on internet forums and some like people Japanese stuff.

It's the ones that dress up as cartoon characters that need a slap though. :D Same with any hobby - nothing wrong with it, but some people just go too far.

They dress up?!

I personally think when someone can be classed as a weeaboo, then they have gone too far. :)

The problem I have with that is how would you classify them as a weeaboo? I assume it's along the lines of my earlier definition on the first page in the thread? If that's the case I agree with you. But I get called a weeaboo for watching Japanese TV!

Have I gone too far too? :(

Pretending to actually be japanese though, is beyond just enjoying something or a bit of escapism. It's like people pretending they are part of the crew of the enterprise, or people who post here pretending they work for OcUK :p

I dont a problem with what shes doing, I just dont understand WHY someone would do that...

Why is she just sat looking at the camera...?

Im really confused

***** mental case...

Hai, so desu ne! Watashi wa Nihonjin desu!! ^_^

;)

I can understand a little spoken Japanese and I feel very sad right now that I know what that means. I have to admit though, during the years of my life I have seen a vast amount of Japanese media and I'm still no closer to becoming a weeaboo. Must be the Irish blood...

I generally don't get offended or irritated by stuff like this and, although thinking it's super-duper lame, I can quite happily ignore it.

But this girl really does get to me.

I think it lies in the fact that she makes me ashamed to be human, to know how pathetic people can be; to know how low people can stoop in the name of attention. It makes me ashamed that people can want (and fail) so desperately to be something they are not. I should not have to feel this, and that makes me annoyed at her for summoning these emotions. Stupid bint.

There's a few on here.

I'm feeling a bit conspicuous with my username. :o

It's a pretty pathetic fad but really no more so than someone pretending to be a Harlem gangsta or anything else that they're not. As for myself, I have a slight interest in Japanese history and I like some Japanese cars. That's it.
