Largish Family Car - SUV?

God. Here is a depressing idea.

Insurance on the E43 is a grand. It owes me nothing basically - I paid £30k and it's still pretty much in the ballpark 4-5 years later.

I could get an ID5, whack ~25k in the bank, avoid £1k + road tax + servicing + MOT. £410 a month........nil deposit. Enyaq is £460/mo.

I don't really pay for my own fuel though.......serious man maths required.

Edit: is Ford Explorer really 374 miles?
Fine have another option from me - sell the E43, ***** a load of cash into a Urus and be a baller for a bit. Realise it’s crippling you financially so sell it at a loss, and consider that you should’ve kept the E43 and popped money into the house instead :)

Gone from Levantes and F-Paces' to CX-60 and complaining about insurance costs of the current car.

Easy solution, downsize the house, doesn't really need that summer house anyway, buy a Cayenne Turbo, live happily ever after.

I think that the S6 interior is nicer than a 2020 7 series. Well, the dashboard centre console is nicer to look at, as I've not experienced either in the flesh.

I've driven both and the 5 series is better. Everything works really nicely, it's very good quality and you don't control the entire car from 2 touch screens that get covered in fingerprints after about 10 minutes. It's a nicer place to be.

Obviously now the 2024 5 series is out this isn't the case and the future is clearly Audi :D

Now this is interesting.

They aren't even close. The A6 interior looks nice but the quality is just OK and the way it all works is miles behind the 5 Series let alone the 7.

I actually wanted to get an A6 when I bought my last 5 - but the 5 is just so much better, I couldn't bring myself to do it...

I just can't get past the ugly screen poking out, and the newer interiors are even worse.

It’s more prominent on the 5 LCI as the screen is bigger. The 7 looks a bit more integrated.

The new model 5 is nice in some ways but feels a step down in quality. I’ve driven a few. The new iDrive is a step backwards as well, it’s far too complicated with too many pointless features. It’s so much less tactile as well, you can do everything more easily on the previous generation cars, without having to use a touchscreen for everything. :(

I wouldn’t automatically assume the equivalent Audi/Mercedes is better though, that’s not normally the case in my experience.

But also considering the exterior, the new BMW range looks hideous (relatively speaking). They've really cheapened the brand.

Well just looking at the new model cars in this segment, I don’t think the new E Class looks any better than the 5. I don’t think the new A6 is out yet.

I think they look better in person, with the right spec, but I agree the design is quite jarring and they’ve completely abandoned the historical styling!

I do. I think it looks exactly as you'd expect a newer E Class to look. The 5 Series is just, I don't even know what. But I've gone from thinking the 5 Series is my favourite car in the world to not understanding why I'd ever buy one again :(
