Laser eye treatment - who's done it?

eyes are brilliant, no pain hayfever seems weirdly gone, nose running liek hell but eyes are eprfect.

only time theyre sore is the miniute after the antibioic drops as one of them stings a bit (kinda like salt in your eye) but otherwise eprfect

How long do you have to do the antibiotic drops for? A month? It's those and the artificial tears isn't it?

I just realised the upcoming tube strike is planned across the 24hrs where I have my pre-op consult and then the surgery

a week 2 differnt antibiotic driops 4 times a day.

then aritifical tears as manhy times as you need for a s long as you need

oh my typing is awlways terrible this is what all my sposts look l.ike before i bother spellchceking them and correcting them.

in game chat is terrible where im in a rush and have no spell check.

its called typeolitus and its a very serious condition :(

My wife had Lasik done 6 months back through optical express. She went for the best treatment they offered.

She still has very slight blurring of 1 eye at night time, but they just get her back in once a month (consultation only to monitor everything) and obviously offer free corrections to get it perfect if necessary. So next month if she still has that slight issue they said it's an easy correction - they just need to give it time as it often sorts itself out.

She feels a lot better having no vision correction and has 20/20 vision now - she can see things on par with me and I've been lucky enough to have really good eyesight all my life.

Given that the cost is quite low now even for the top level of treatment then it's certainly something I'd get done without hesitation if my eyes ever deteriorate.

She goes back every month to have more surgery?

Just out of interest how much is the 'top' spec at Optical Express?

No no - just for a check up to make sure everything is still fine. She doesn't have to do this to be honest, but she's in the area often so just goes in anyway as it's a free aftercare service.

I can't recall the exact price - but it's £91 a month for 2 years (interest free) after whatever deposit we paid. Think It may have been about £400 or something. So somewhere in the region of £2500-£2600 total.
The overall cost isn't bad really - she was paying £30 for the contacts she needed, so in time the money will be saved back, and she'll have years of perfect vision so seems well worth it. The younger you are, the more worth it it will be I guess.

From what I remember, I got hold of some offer and when she went to her consultation, the manager had never seen such an offer. Maybe it was never meant to get out into the public? But I'm pretty sure the option she went for should have been >£4000 - I may be wrong though as I never really got involved beyond giving her the offer I had.

Yeah that's pretty good. I think Laser Eye Surgery is generally believed to save you money over your lifetime. If you imagine you spend £200/yr on glasses and/or contacts then you're soon getting on for spending that amount anyway. That's what always annoyed me about glasses, was the sheer price of them.

yeah esopecialy if you start adding in perscription specs etc

I had Lasik done a few years ago. I watched it being done on youtube first(Dont do that lol) and it was painless. Didnt feel a thing during the operation. In and out in 20 minutes and a nurse was so kind to come over and hold my hand during it when she seen how terrified I was!haha. I got extra drops put into my eye "just incase" because I am a complete pansy.

After leaving the place I had my terminator glasses on and couldnt open my eyes so my girlfriend walked me to the train station and into a wall :-)

Well here's an update for you all. I managed to fight my way into town through the tube strikes yesterday (honestly, of all the days!) and successfully had my Lasik done at LVC. Went in for my checkup today and everything is looking grand. It's still a bit foggy and variable (it's a bit like wearing my contacts actually :p) but I read at the 20:20 line and a bit below. Woohoo!

I suffered a bit immediately after the surgery, I was very sensitive to the light and kept getting that noise in your head when you tense your eye muscles (like when you walk out of a dark room into bright sunshine if you weren't expecting it). I probably looked rather the fool when I was taken back into the main waiting room :o I was crap with the drops as well (and still am) :o

So, it's all a bit weird at the moment but I'm getting on with my drops etc. I slept alright with the eye protectors last night but I suspect they're going to annoy me.

Success all round I think *fingers crossed* :p

How's everyones eyes doing? I'm looking at this now as I have an Astigmatism and I'm at the end of my tether with glasses and contacts.

Tempted to make the effort for London as I do only have one pair of eyes but is it really worth twice the price plus expenses?

I think my prescription is quite odd but I'm not sure how that translates to Laser work.

I'll speak to LVC tomorrow on the phone and see if they can woo me, then speak to a cheaper place in Bristol. Anything you can advise before I go into this, kind of like eye-opening experience? hohoho

^ quite similar to my prescription so intrigued to see how it goes.

I keep toying with the idea but I'm too much of a wimp. :(

Yes it is.

I went for my 1 year followup today, everything perfect and as expected.

When going to the high street chains with a friend, I felt somewhat concerned for him at how the quality of service from the get go seemed massively lower, even down to the simple things (example at Optimax the consultation was delayed 30 minutes, not even an apology offered, at LVC the guy I was seeing was 5 minutes behind, and before it even got to my appointment time, one of the receptionists came over, apologized profusely for the delay and asked if I would like a drink or snack).

Anyway, as you said it yourself, you only have 1 pair of eyes, why not spend the money to know you're with the best there is, the people who have in house researchers, and if anything goes wrong, have the staff and knowledge to fix the issue there, rather than cart you off to a specialist elsewhere.

Hey muffin

I had it done exactly 4 years ago last Thursday, I remember the date because it was on the 13th of the month lol and it was 4 years ago because I've just been written to advising the interest free credit arrangement has been paid, so my eyeballs are now mine woohoo!

I'm in Bristol too and had it done in Optical Express in Cabot Circus. I had the Consultation at the Mall in Cribbs near where I work but had the actual treatment done closer to home for obvious reasons.

4 years on and there still isn't a day that goes by when I don't appreciate having them lasered, from spotting someone I know really far away to participating in sport - it's just like upgrading to HD :)

Initially I'd signed up for the cheaper version to match my prescription but when I arrived for surgery I told them I want the dearest one where they create a unique prescription based on my eyes.I figured if I'm gonna have my eyes sliced open I want the best they can offer.

They were fine with this, I needed some more scans done and had to stare at more machines but they still did it on that one visit and they've been better than 20/20 since. Now got 6/5 vision or something. Price went up from about 1200 to 3500 but it's paid off now and my vision is fantastic.

Just cycled up the Pill path tonight along the Avon, looking at the little boats in detail with all their rigging etc, rode under the mighty suspension bridge and back down the other side along the Portway, seen in glorious detail through a pair of off the peg shades.

No more prescriptions for me :-) Well not for a bit anyway, I was 34 when it was done and they said I'll need reading glasses in my 40s, I'm 38 now and the lady at my last eyetest said it'll most likely be in my late 40s so hurrah to that too :)

Go for it!

Ps I had an astigmatism in one eye, plus some scarring on my left eye (which I didn't know existed) and they still sorted me out, even with the upgrade request on the day of the procedure. Because of the scarring the surgeon didn't want to do a laser flap, instead he did the old fashioned mechanical flap but hey ho he knew what he was doing and it was slightly cheaper as a result.
