Laser eye treatment - who's done it?

Been wanting to do it for years, and want to go have a free consultation. But who to book in with? Any good deals on at, etc.
Is there a way you can see success rates and other such info?

My girlfriend is having her surgery today! She needs it as she is looking to pursue a career with the Police!

I've been thinking about it for some years though if she has a positive experience with it i will look at get surgery when i return from my next deployment. I have astigmatism in my right eye. Prescription is -4.75 in my left and -5.25 in my right. I've had glasses all my life, and wear contacts every now and then. I would just hope i am suitable! Though i will check in the future!

Another shout for LVC. I had it done almost 4 months ago now. Had my 3 month checkup and I am 20:20, can actually read a little bit under the line.

Slight complication in that they discovered little 'cells' under the flap on my right eye. There's no issue, it's all normal and they will go away with time. It's just that if they were bothering me (and were worse) they could have done the flap again. Nice to have a text from my surgeon after that just confirming everything is cool. No adverse effects here apart from occasional dry eyes but it's still early days yet. I just came back from holiday and the simple pleasures of being able to wear sunglasses, or hang them off your t-shirt and swap to and from them 'just like that', like a normal person is great. No worries about going out for the day and wearing contacts for 10hrs etc.

There's no denying that it's pretty damn scary lying down with huge lasers coming down to your eyes, but it's just fear. You really don't feel anything apart from maybe him putting the flap back :p It's quite amazing.

im actually looking at using them.

is this project treatment based as in better to wait then go sooner?

A bit late, but regardless, finally it has been published, though annoyingly not under my name anymore as I no longer work for Google.

Regardless, you can take a look around one of the worlds most advanced Laser Eye Clinics now from the comfort of your PC.

I'm someone who's 18, should I consider laser eye surgery or would my eyesight naturally keep changing until I hit a certain age?
I believe the very first step of screening is to ensure your prescription has stayed roughly the same for 5yrs or so.

kindai, thanks for the links. My girlfriend was having a right old natter with Dr. Carp about the Silverstone map-thing on his wall :p

similar to mine but my right wasnt as bad as yours (left is the same) plus 2 astigmatisms and large pupils.

LVC fixed them right up.

but i was on the cusp of the higher payment (in for one yee not the other), but they did it for the lower payment.

not sure if you'd be in the higher bracket

There's a higher bracket? What do they do, gold plate your iris?

It's been over a year now since I had the relex procedure. So far still so good.

the 2 prices are 4900 or 6500, the higher one for eyes that need more work (higher prescriptions, larger pupils, etc)

Oh yeah I remember now. I still find it kind of strange that not only is there such a massive range of price options for laser surgery, but people actually choose the budget options.

Well, I have an appointment at te end of this month for laser eye, the only question I really have is whether I want LASIK or PRK. With LASIK, the flap not healing for 2 years freaks me out a little bit as I ski and if I fall I don't want to mess up my surgery, whereas with PRK I understand the recovery process is a lot slower and more painful.

Hmm, decisions decisions...

Booked into Liverpool Optical Express for LASIK on February the 6th, to say i'm a bit nervous about it is an understatement. My prescription is fairly low, -1.5 in each eye so i'm hopeful nothing will go wrong.

Still, i'm excited to see the results, no pun intended :)

Technically the flap never fully heals up and can be relifted by a skilled eye surgeon many years after the lasik procedure.
However, after a few months healing, blunt force to the head/eye violent enough to dislodge the flap would would likely cause severe damage to the eye regardless of type of laser surgery.

I had LASEK and my recovery was agony! Pure pain for a few days, couldn't open my eyes and thought it was the worst decision ever.. Three years on though and it was one of the best thngs I've ever donr. I talked the missus in to having it done this year and she had a similar prescription to me and was offered LASIK. She was absolutely fine afterwards, no pain or anything.

Both me and the missus had it done there, both about -8 in each eye and we are now 20/20.

Yes I have of course obviously googled this too, hence why I said "2 years", the time it apparently takes (according tot he medical websites) for the eye to be fully supported and strengthened as much as it can be after the surgery. :)

A few days of pain is ok, but PRK can last weeks!

Good luck to anyone going for laser eye surgery but it's not for me. I've worn glasses since I was 7 and I'm about -7.0 prescription. I've had contact lenses for 29yrs, never lost one, had a few pop out but recovered! I've got at least 20/20 vision and not suffered any I'll effects wearing lenses.

Maybe I'm missing a trick but being so short sighted for so long I value my sight and I'm in the school of if it ain't broke don't try and fix it! Nothing is without risk but I'm achieving the result without any further risk. I'm also getting old enough that even laser surgery won't help with the long sightedness!

Just to repeat good luck to those going for it I can empathise with not being able to see in a morning hope you get the results you're looking for :)

I had lasek at the beginning of last year and am pretty much recovered now. You can read about it in my blog here:

https://lasekeyes.wordpress.com

I chose LASEK over LASIK just because i didn't like the idea of permanently weakening my eye. The recovery period was a lot longer and pretty frustrating but I thought it was a price worth paying. Almost a year later and my vision is pretty good now, better than 20:20 but not as sharp as when i had glasses before (i used to have very good vision with glasses though). However it's great waking up in the morning and being able to see, and also not having to worry about contact lenses falling out

I think I've posted about this on another thread - but I had my eyes done by Mr Carp at the LVC just before christmas - was an absolutely fantastic experience and well worth the £4900 IMO.
