LED Bulb Thread

Anyone have any experience with these?

This is for a new extension so no existing lights. I really want to avoid lots of small spotlights all over the ceiling so that you can't look up without a light in your eye. So I'd rather larger but less downlights. It's a kitchen/living, two lighting zones on dimmers, kitchen is 3.5m x 4m, living area is 5.7m x 3m.

How many lumens are people aiming for in their rooms, per meter square?

I'm struggling with a dimmer switch that can be used with a single 7-8w LED we simply want to be able to dim the light in our nursery but every switch I look as hasa minimum load of 10W anyone seen or own something that works for this?

Just to share my solution to this, I picked up a varilight VPro dimmer switch that I great with low loads it is also programmable so you can adjust the dimmer range. Driving a single 9.5 watt bulb I found at it's lowest setting I got flickering but once I adjusted the switch so it won't dim that far it works fine.

Now my next challenge! I'm looking to replace the 10 SES compact fluorescent candle bulbs we have in central light fittings in our living room and dinning room, they take forever to get bright and look nasty. I'm looking to use some LED filament style bulbs but want them to be dimmable so we can control the lighting I've found some likely looking bulbs at LYYT.co.uk but can't find a great deal of information out about the company! anyone used them?

These are the bulbs I'm considering:

Anyone got any recommendations for dimmable candle shaped filament led's?

I've just replaced 2x GU10 spotlights for Philips 5W GU10 LEDs which work OK one at a time but when I connect them both, they both start strobing. Any ideas what's wrong?

If anyone is looking at this in the future, I bought ones marked as dimmable and they work perfectly.

I'm a completed LED noob and have recently moved into a new build which has G24-q fittings and 13W CFL bulbs - I'd like to go LED so any recommendations? What sort of wattage should I be looking at? I'd also like them to be dimmable if possible.

Think you've got LEDs in your kitchen from what I saw. Think elsewhere they weren't.

Just look around on pistonheads GU10 thread in home area, A few recommendations in there I think, other than going for the kit I have.

I'm fitting 20 Aurora 7w spots this weekend, in 2 gangs of 10, and using a V-Pro 250 module on each gang. Hoping I can take them down to 20% load, without any flicker. Min load on the modules appears to be in-spec (10W).

Probably explains your flicker.

LIFX are a total rip off IMO

what you want is Easybulb... I have dozens of them now, the coloured ones... but they actually do a bulb that does exactly what psymonkee is wanting:

they change from cool white to warm white and you can get them in many fittings, including GU10 :)

*I don't have any easybulb white's, just the RGBW ones, which are superb*

Those easybulbs look good :). How do you find the brightness?

Just added a couple more vpro's to go with the new led filament bulbs in the living and dining room and they have worked totally flicker free this time each switch is driving 5 4W LED filament bulbs can't really guage the full effect until this evening but I am pretty pleased.

A quick update on the lyyt.co.uk bulbs as well, I placed an order at 4:45pm and they were still with me the next day which I was very impressed with! The bulbs arrived well packaged and look decent enough when I swapped them all out one had an obvious fault (The filaments were only glowing a the ends and that bulb got very hot) I contacted LYYT and they were very understanding and I should have a new bulb with me today :)

I have some 60w b22 candle bulbs to replace, for some uplighter in my bathroom, anyone any suggestions?

ive replaced bathroom kitchen and hallway

i had to start with the hallway has it has a low ceiling and evertime my dad would stand under my halogens he complained of burning his bald head ..haha

only thing is there on a dimmer so i need to replace the switch

but turn the dimmer down and put on blue monday by new order and relive my youth in the night clubs dancing in the strobes

but on a plus side..so much brighter and cleaner..kitchen and bathroom look soo much better

The question of whether they need to be candles was directed at the guy who wanted them for uplighters :)

I don't think those LED filament style lamps will give you anywhere near a 40w equivalent, but it can't hurt to try a couple out.
