Got my x121e last Friday with 2gb of ram & 6 cell for £334, bought 8gb of ram and a kingston 96gb ssd to go in it. SSD would not fit fully as the x121e only takes 7mm 2.5" disks
theres also an msata slot behind the abttery that you can fit a msata ssd in .
I'm considering one of these, since I need a light notebook for class.
To those who've gotten one with a 6-cell battery, what's the weight like?
Also, my last laptop was a Vostro 1500 with a T7300 processor (2.0GHz Merom C2D). Does anyone know how the i3 2357m @ 1.3GHz in this will compare, given that it doesn't have turbo?
Intel SSDs excluding he 320 series are 7mm, theres also an msata slot behind the abttery that you can fit a msata ssd in (intel makes some)
i think corsair also makes 7mm SSDs with a backplate that adds 2mm, so if oyu take off the backplate they fit (actually i think the 320 series from intel is the same) but can't remember my source for that so you'll have to confirm for yourself.
hi there, looking on passmark the i3-2375m in the lenovo scores 1600 http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core+i3-2357M+@+1.30GHz
the T7300 only score 1151 but there are many other benefits to the i3 ulv inc graphics and power management so it will clearly be quicker http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=Intel+Core2+Duo+T7300+@+2.00GHz
an i3-380m (2.53ghz) scores 2300 and i3-2310m (2.1ghz) gen 2 scores 2500 to give you an idea of performance.
the new amd E-350 cpu with ati 6310 graphics which is being found in a lot of low end notebooks these days only scores 728 yet this is being sold as a suitable laptop for work and gaming in 15" and 17" at some stores. http://www.cpubenchmark.net/cpu_lookup.php?cpu=AMD+E-350. an atom z550 will score half that though.
hope this helps.
Thanks for the reply mrk1@1. There isn't much info yet on the 2357m that I could find.
According to that chart sandy bridge seems to be twice as fast as the C2D architecture clock for clock. Is that really realistic? I was expecting about 40% faster.
Regarding the E-350 I'm one of those who really wanted the X120e, but ofcourse they never released it here. Mainly I wanted fusion because I trust AMD a lot more on the GPU side than I do intel, especially for drivers. But I hear the hd3000 isn't too bad and has good support for DXVA so it should be fine.
the thing is the 6310 GPU which comes with the Fusion graphics is not a good performer
a lot of people seem to think it is going to be good as it is dedicated but it scores in the same region as an older ati 4250 but with the low power CPU it hinders it further http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6310.40952.0.html.
ok so it is a massive leap over netbooks but the manufacturers keep putting it in 15 & 17 laptops which is clearly isn't for. It is not a patch on the HD 3000 graphics
You are right, in reality it's nowhere near twice as fast. In some applications even 40% is optimistic.
Does it actually have a 3g modem in the base model?
It says so.
