I have not had any black screens for months connected with a DP cable and was excited when a firmware update popped up on screen. Downloaded, applied and monitor overclocked to 160hz and……black screen within minutes. It’s happened a few times now so it wasn’t a one off. So disappointed. Back to 144hz and everything is sweet again.

I called LG saying I had black screens while in 160Hz mode and that I didn't have 144Hz over HDMI as the firmware wasn't updated... All they told me was that I would need to send the monitor in for repair. facepalm

After my earlier disappointment trying to overclock my monitor to 160hz I tried again and lo and behold, it's working okay now. Been playing games for a couple of days and no black screens at all. How very strange but it looks like my earlier experience must have been unrelated to the overclock.

Same thing unfortunately.
Just in case somebody might forget to do something of the following which improves chances of getting a firmware update:
-unplug all displays except for the 27GP950;
-plug the monitor with the USB cable which comes with it to a rear USB 3.0 port which 100% works, update your motherboard/chipset drivers which may influence the USB/PCIe devices;
-download LG_ULTRAGEAR+.zip drivers from the 27GP950 support page, install them and reboot your PC;
-make sure that you are on a latest OnScreen Control app from the 27GP950 support page (if not, delete the old one first and then install a newer one), locate the OnScreen Control executable, let it run as administrator and make sure it has internet access (e.g. https://pureinfotech.com/allow-apps-firewall-windows-10/);
-try changing settings of the monitor via the OnScreen Control app to make sure that it is actually able to control the monitor via the USB cable;
-try using a VPN for your internet connection with other region, maybe there are some bugs on the LG's servers which "transmit" the update to OnScreen Control app.

any suggestions on region? I've verified everything else and can control monitor from osc.

@Junk
Try US, Canada, UK, France, China... if none of them trigger the update, then it really can be temporary unavailable for some reason. Well, I've updated on March 11 from Russia without VPN, but I can hardly believe that LG when trying to block Russia from its update servers accidentally blocked everyone else except Russia from accessing their update servers :D But who knows? Try a Russian VPN if you can find one.

Hello everyone,

Happy weekend to you all! I got my 29GP950 last Sunday, unboxed it on Weds. First impressions were really, really good - at this point I should admit that I'm not much of a gamer (*hides*). I know there are cheaper alternatives but I just had to have it for my general PC usage including streaming.

An hour ago, I was streaming a tv programme and stepped away for a few minutes. I came back to find it had black screened. I could clearly hear the programme still, through my speakers. Tried a different HDMI cable, no success. Hard reset my PC, no success - the monitor noted a few times 'signal not found'. Swapped back to my old monitor and the good old BitLocker login screen appeared. Then plugged back this monitor and it's displaying correctly again.

Is this an example please, of the infamous black screen issue that so many of you have sadly experienced? I thought it was perhaps limited to just gaming but have I got that wrong, please?

I haven't upgraded the firmware so will give that a go later. Any advice appreicated! Thanks :)

Hello welcome to Ocuk forums
No this isn't the same black screen.

What you experienced is the deep sleep option kicking in.
You need to press the power button again to wake it up. If you update the firmware they is an option to switch this off.

The black screen documented with this monitor is a full black screen flash that last about a second. Seems to only happen while gaming for most people.

Thank you :D I really appreciate that - I actually now think there's something wrong with my motherboard as I've lost all sound, and it won't switch off when instructed to by Windows :( Funny thing was, I didn't step away for that long from my PC and using the power button didn't seem to help. But I'll give the firmware update a go to switch off the deep sleep and fingers crossed.

Thank you again :)
