*************** Some early reports this firmware is breaking PC apps/software from running properly, I am guessing its Colourcontrol and LGcompanion app so if you do update it from USB link or over the air just be warned!***********
Odd this still isn't being picked up by my tv

Thanks for this - still havnt had a lot of time to mess with the settings -
just a few questions if you dont mind.

1. Are there any issues to accessing bios screens? (read this about when using a hdmi tv?)
2. What about putting the tv to sleep; I rarely ever turn my computer off usually just sleep; the screen goes to tv mode (non signal (random screen on it)) can I just leave it do that and it will turn off on its own? - and when I come back I think I need to hit the power on the remote to start the screen up again?
3. Seems like the white or grey is 'duller' then Id like is this by design? ...

still a bit undecided if Id rather have a 48" instead but got a good deal on this so hard to pass up. The gigabyte fo48u looks interesting also ...

Sorry, was putting off restarting my pc but just checked now.
1. No issues accessing the bios screen on HDMI. I had a dvi monitor on my 980ti which I had to unplug to get the bios to display on the tv instead but I think that's just a display choice option somewhere. With it unplugged when booting my pc it will show the wallpaper/no signal screen, all you have to do is hit del as you normally would and the bios screen will pop up.
2. The tv has an in built screen off timer which you can set. I have this set to four hours, a little message will pop up at the bottom of the screen saying it will turn off within 5 mins, I just hit back on the remote and it skips this. The main thing I rely on is the LG companion app R3X linked. This makes the tv behave exactly like a monitor, so if your windows setting is to sleep the display after 10 min then the monitor will turn off after 10 min. Sleeping the whole pc works the same way and you can just move the mouse to come out of sleep or turn the screen on. I have mine set to 15min. When watching films in a browser or on vlc player etc the screen will not turn off as per usual windows behaviour.
3. I haven't notied the white being grey myself, it may have been dimming the screen at which point it may look grey if you just looked at it at full brightness. The whites are way whiter than my old IPS screens.

LG takes ages to roll it out over regions and countries, they tend to do it slowly just in case they start seeing issues I believe.

Way more faster to just get the usb download and flash it yourself.

@Greebo and @Baddass, some early reports of successful calibration with latest calman and the now fixed iTPG for calibration with newest LG firmware above, but 1-2 users did have to do a work around bug to get calman to connect to their LG mentioned here. As those guys over their suggest Calman are now left to update their software to make it fully work but its workable at least.

Has anyone mounted a second monitor above their LG 42"? Basically I'm just wondering if it's useable or if it's too straining having to look up as the LG is quite tall compared to most monitors.

Yeah I’d seen that reported too. Just waiting on some further updates and clarification from Portrait too :)

Nice let us know the results and if it works

Sounds like its getting there with support, tempted to still buy calman and run through your guide and get learning some of the basics at least.

All reviews come back to this. The lack of DP is truly annoying af.

Do I really have to buy the Asus ROG at near double the price, or is using a DP to HDMI 2.1 adaptor an idea?

I don't have HDMI 2.1 on my GPU, only 2.0, which means it would run at 60Hz I believe.
Same issue as me. I also don't get adaptive sync. 4k120 at poor colour resolution, or 1080/120/HDR. I switch between the two depending on if the game is action based or pretty.

I'm waiting for an upgrade, it's not the TV 's fault I have a cutting edge TV and a 6 year old graphics card sadly :)

I WAS planning to upgrade to 30 series as my first ever "brand new" graphics card but then you remember what happened with availability and pricing...

I've heard of people using a Club3D Active DisplayPort 1.4 to HDMI 2.1 adapter who claim they can get 4K 120Hz 4:4:4 10-bit HDR out of it to their LG OLED. No VRR/G-sync though.

Apparently you can update the firmware on the adapter by emailing Club3D for the newer file.

Make an cardboard mock up of your monitor size screen and hang it above the 42" with bluetack or drawing pins and then sit back and see how it might be, there really is no perfect way to test this until its set up just one of those things but maybe the cardboard mock up may give some idea of it.

Has anyone wall mounted this screen and if so what bracket works best?

Yup best way forward imo especially if you have a desk against an flat wall in front of you. I went for an amazon one similar to this one mine was 16mm from the wall but this ones 14mm so its even closer to the wall. While it does still stick almost 2 inches away from the wall and not 100% flush or against it for now its the best one can do on a more simple set up. You do need to be good with DIY some basic drilling etc, measuring skills and depending on your type of wall if its plasterboard use the wooden studs behind it neo magnet can find them easily and use the right screws also, I used snaptogglers to secure it and went overboard with like 8 screws till I could hang myself off the wall.

You can search on amazon for wall mounts so many to find just be aware of the wall distance you want less not more otherwise it sticks out, you don't need to go overboard price wise even the £20-30 ones do the job fine and the 42 C2 is light weight. I use belkin slim hdmi cables to make it a bit easier to feed hdmi cables on the back and a D-link trunk to hide all 4 hdmi wires.

It takes time and effort but imo you won't ever want to go back to a TV stand once you see how clean the set up really is.

Good to know. Coming from a Samsng SyncMaster 2494HM (and I'm a bit taken aback realising I've had this for 12 years now), I'm not getting down with all that and some half-baked upgrade, so went with the Asus 42" from here. Fastest delivery.

Similar to you, I now have:

i5 2500k < 2060 < PG42UQ. Lol, doing it all wrong,

Was also looking at the fancy Alienware which I could have nabbed for £850, but delivery Friday. A bit too small for me, so not so fussed.

Well that was a massive failure last night.

Took me ages to get my calibrite working as other software was conflicting so had to uninstall all of them and the drivers to get calman to recognise the colorimeter .

Did a pre report and it wasnt bad but bad enough that it could really do with calibrating. Greys were out more badly than colours, delta of 4 vs 3 for colours.

Run through the whole thing using tft centrals guide ( a must read). The colours it flashed up seemed right but had an issue. greyscale worked well and fixed that side of things no problem but the 729 checks on the colour reported an error at the end and sad it had failed. Ran the colour one again and reported all okay when done but when doing my post chart, the colours were 45-100% out. When it finished and I went back to the desktop my screen was in black and white for that tv setting!!!!! Using a different one for now and will give it another go tonight now I know what I am doing!

Appreciate the testing, yeah its not easy to calibrate I have been reading up on it for the past few months trying to make head and tails of it but will go over the tft guide and calman vids again. Would be fantastic still to get calibration done by yourself I still recall Vincent's calibrated C9 vs CX vs C1 and then his C1 vs C2 video and he pretty much said once calibrated there almost level, so just go for the cheapest one.

Hopefully same with C2 vs C3 ;)

Worked perfect tonight. No idea what happened last night, maybe after the colour one failed I should have rebooted and started over. Completed first time and calibrated to average 0.4 and max 1.2 delta. I'll take that. Thats SDR game mode done, will work through the other ones and HDR. Takes a good 2 hours each time so is time consuming but worth it. TFT instructions are perfect so long as you take your time and dont miss any steps. Might do a sdr wide gamut one as well so i have that as an option.

Massive difference claibrated to how the screens come as standard. Anybody who doesn't get their LG OLED calibrated by either paying somebody or doing it themselves is missing out IMO.
