LG 42-inch OLED

I might have missed this earlier in the thread, but I upgraded to Win 11 22H2 and have the white line at the top of the auto hide task bar, not the end of the world, but annoying.

I was also hiding desktop icons using the auto hotkey method.

I googled around to see if there was a solution to the white line at the top of the task bar and sure enough found people pointing to this utility (AutoHideDesktopIcons).

This not only hides desktop icons (which when shown disappear after a timeout which you can set) but also will 'auto hide the taskbar' at the same time, and the way it hides it gets rid of the white line! Result!

Just thought I'd share in case it wasn't well known!

The white line on my taskbar seems to come and go as it pleases. Sometimes it'll disappear completely.

Has anyone had any damage from burn in by turning off TPC & GSR in the service menu? I've just gotten round to trying it, it's a very nice difference, just wondering what kind of long term damage it will cause.

Yea, that looks sketchy af... Have you scanned the install at least?

Not yet. Had them turned off since day 1 but then again I have only had the TV for a month

Not heard of any reports yet with tpc/gsr being off think many C9 owners switched it off and been using it as an monitor also, really just enjoy the screen there is probably an higher chance one would upgrade within 4-5 years anyhow and if one gets burn in LG has the panel swap service option.

Agreed. I have a full 5 year warranty with burn in cover so going to abuse it!!!!

Ah yea, good point. I'll replace before I see permanent damage.

I'm still cautious since my plasma days lol

LG went complete overboard with software algorithms think there are like 7 or 8, always working in the background doing their work to prevent burn in.

£300 last time I heard for an LG OLED panel swap service, so if after 3-4 or more years you do somehow get it its an option but probably by then the technology will be so tempting you won't want to do it.

I've put together a blocklist for Pi-hole that's been working well for the last few weeks on my UK 42C2, it stops the system notification ads/pop-ups when you turn the TV on. ( https://raw.githubusercontent.com/CaughtIt/hosts/main/blocklist )

There are 3x domains listed to add to a Domain exact Whitelist (Disabled as default), enable these if you want to update Firmware or Apps, then disable again after updating.

It maybe of use to some of you.

Just got this tv/monitor (still evaluating to make sure I like it) - but in the meantime - is there another video or setting that are good for calibration? I used these https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zv-2yP7Rumo but doesnt work for me seems dull or something.
also theres like 104 pages here of stuff so I know its probably talked about but - do I need to worry about burn in and do I need to do things to prevent it? ie screensaver or what not? I use my pc mainly for pc work etc ... so static images webpages/stock charts/word docs/and then game playing and movie watching ... thanks (kind of trying to decide between the 42" and a 48") so far quite liking the screen for games etc ...

That video is excellent not sure why you are seeing it a bit dull though. OLEDs take a good 200-300 hours if not 500 to peak and flow better imo.

You may wish to reset the picture settings or factory reset to make sure and retry it or try the guide linked below.

Here is another set up video which is more for basics cable, sat, bluray viewing. Most tend to just leave defaults on and switch to filmmaker or isf bright (for bright rooms) or dark (for dark) and just adjust the OLED light to something more comfortable for your eye viewing some like 35 or 40 or 50 etc and then see how it goes but 30-35-40 is popular especially for dark room viewing.

I would not worry about burn in, several programs are running constantly in the background to prevent it, basically they went overboard to make sure its not an issue however it does not hurt to change the desktop pic to a black or dark image or add screen savers or hide the task bar and icons.

42 vs 48" there is some difference, I have had both they both look fantastic imo if you have got plenty space and good distance between yourself and the screen like 3-4 metres you may prefer the 48" but any closer you may prefer the 42", its personal preference really I much prefer the 42" over the 48" since I am roughly 1.5 metres away from it if not 2 meters when watching movies.

Thought I'd mention badass has got one these up for sale in sale section already calibrated (I think he owns tftcentral?)

100% bargain imo, TV calibrators are very hit and miss imo so for £850 properly calibrated and delivered that is well worth it.

Some TV calibrators are currently charging around £350-380 by the way, they all appear to have jacked up the prices due to petrol cost.

Some early reports from C2/G2 users LG is teasing that big firmware update that was due last year the Webos 7.3 one, some info here

Apparently LG has been showing its due soon in a pop up on the TV, some are reporting they already got it here

Hopefully fixes the internal patterns bug and gives lots of improvements.

Thanks for this - still havnt had a lot of time to mess with the settings -
just a few questions if you dont mind.

1. Are there any issues to accessing bios screens? (read this about when using a hdmi tv?)
2. What about putting the tv to sleep; I rarely ever turn my computer off usually just sleep; the screen goes to tv mode (non signal (random screen on it)) can I just leave it do that and it will turn off on its own? - and when I come back I think I need to hit the power on the remote to start the screen up again?
3. Seems like the white or grey is 'duller' then Id like is this by design? ...

still a bit undecided if Id rather have a 48" instead but got a good deal on this so hard to pass up. The gigabyte fo48u looks interesting also ...

I don't unfortunately use my 42C2 as a daily monitor more for a TV, so others maybe able to answer it a bit better, but I believe it should be fine.

I can point you to the LG companion app though, this is good tool to make your C2 more PC monitor ie it goes on when you switch the pc on and off when shut down etc, its found here

You also have colourcontrol app which helps tweaks and similar features.

Try the above 2 tools they should hopefully make it more PC monitor type experience for your OLED.

Yes you may notice the whites are duller especially if coming from an LED monitor or LED TV, they can display whites more brighter and whiter so the OLED white is not quite the same as LED screens white but your eyes and brain do oddly adjust after a few days and it becomes normal. With LG OLEDs atm its totally normal, LG are improving this with MLA or Meta technology in the future and QD-OLEDs (another technology) are often more whiter whites but we may not see this tech in 42" and smaller size screens for a quite a while.
