LG 42-inch OLED

Considering selling my 38” ultra wide Alienware to fund a C2 but not sure it’s the right move. I do crave a bit of OLED but a few concerns…

Like is 42” too big for a desk? Granted my desk is 90cm depth so I have my screen further away than most.
Also, that dimming issue I keep reading about, is that a major problem? I don’t just use the PC for gaming either, a screen needs to be functional for simple tasks like office etc.

In summary, what’s the verdict? Yey or ney?

If you're using an OLED for anything other than gaming or content comsumption then i would stick with the 38" ultrawide

The 42 inch 16:9 is tad wider than the 38 inch but is quite a bit taller, so for the same price you're getting more screen space

On the C2 at least you can disable the ABL

I recall propping my TV on my desk once. I think it was 40 or 42 in, my desk is 80 cm deep though we would have to take into account how close it was to my face with the stand but I found the screen actually looked convex when it was that close.
Thus when I got the C2 I got one of those wall stands and move my desk backwards. So now it's about 100 cm away which is fine.
However, I feel like with most things it's one of these subjective things where you kind of just have to see for yourself

42/48/55/65inch isn't big for desktop just personal preference think out of the box!

I have the 48" C1 on a desk - wall mounted but its about 90cm away as my desk is deep - its a bit higher than I would like ('had' to fit a soundbar and riser underneath).

I don't think I could easily do a day's work on it, but its not been bad for basic tasks that isn't gaming, but I do notice it's not ideal.

Hi all,

Been having an issue using the above card on my LG C2 where the screen is intermittently flickering (see included video). I've tried numerous HDMI 2.1 certified cables but still having the same issue. Just wondered if anyone else had a similar problem? Using my internal GPU for now as it's getting really bad which works fine, it will just randomly start happening there is no pattern to it. I've started the RMA process with the retailer, card is just under 6 months old. Not sure if it's faulty port or something more sinister.

Thanks :)

Not sure if it works but some guys noticed some flickering in content, they mentioned the newer firmware ending 67 fixed it. Think it was the .66 the one with the issues.

Firmware 03.30.67 has been released by LG

Tv is running latest firmware.

Tv is running latest firmware.

Its a needle in a haystack one sadly, as in hard to diagnose since you know its fine on the onboard gpu you have done the right thing if you can get the gpu swapped out and re-try it or borrow another pci express gpu and try that one.

If you can try that 4090 on a different PC and see if you get the same problem or a friends PC, if you do then you know its 100% the gpu.

Always worth trying beta or even older gpu drivers, up date latest drivers, bios for gpu and motherboard. Id even reset the bios to defaults and re-test it, id even try windows 10 as a long shot.

Also worth trying a non hdmi 2.1 cable and try all the other hdmi ports available with the other hdmi cables disconnected so just one going into tv, try and find the thickest and shortest hdmi cable and test that cable out even if its an old one just to see if there is a difference, don't forget to go to LG dashboard to edit your inputs so that hdmi port your chose is set to PC mode.

Have you also tried to adjust the Nvidia control panel settings, try 32bit, try 8bit instead of 10 or 12bit for example, try a lower resolution instead of 4K etc

Just a few suggestions, it really is a tricky one unless you can swap test another 4090 or try it on another pc really.

Is anyone using this TV on an IKEA Karlby counter top? I intend to use an arm mount for it, but worried if I’ll have to push the monitor too far back for it to be comfortable.

I need a desk that’s ~190cm wide, but it’s impossible to find one that’s 80cm deep.

Site I got mine from were mostly all 80 deep, but I've looked and widest I can see is 180

Do you have a link please? The Karlby is 186cm wide so not a huge difference.

I appreciate the commercial look isn't for everyone but was function over form for me. Mine was in graphite with graphite legs too.
Was also a fair bit less than current price but was in 2021

Thanks very much. Like you said, the look isn’t for everyone but I will definitely give it some thought as the dimensions are almost what I want.
