LG 42-inch OLED

For my use case on a c9 which I'd imagine may still apply here, auto dimming isn't an issue on windows desktop.

I find it becomes a nuisance when I have hdr enabled during desktop use, but is a non issue because I only use sdr on the desktop. Even at low nits, the screen will dim over time with static content with hdr enabled.
I use the screen in a dimly lit room, which means I use around 100-120 nit brightness. If I were to double the brightness, the dimming over time would kick in and become a nuisance.

Depending on use case, the auto dimming on the desktop can range from being non-existent to being an issue. From my camp, if you set 100-120 nit brightness, and use sdr for the desktop, it won't be an issue.

Very good points, thanks for this. I guess it will be case by case based on usage/environment etc.

On another note, I read reports that if you are less than 32" away from the screen its too big.... what are your thoughts?

Great video. That guy from HDTVTest is so informative and clear.

So in a nutshell get the remote, turn off TPC. Job done?
Whabout all the other videos above talking about disabling other features related to auto dimming?

Yeah pretty much just TPC, the best write up on what TPC/GSR does is here

Since I tend to watch syfy, horror TV I just switched off both in my case besides I already had so much issue with black crush it made sense for myself, I also watch sports so switched off GSR. I think as many others have suggested as long as its varied content on screen you are usually good.

I would recommend reading that link, it also helps to take clear pictures of every service menu (instart and adj) I took 2 shots of each menu and sub menu this way if I mess something up or the mainboard gets swapped I still have the original panel settings or for any other reason. So you need some caution here and be aware of what you are doing while in the service menu.

100 nits is around OLED brightness 35 I believe, its the same setting I still use for SDR content (Sky and most TV/Film), decent quick starters guide is still here

32" or 33" is a personal choice, to me that is eye burning stuff I prefer 1.2-1.5 metres apart so have a desk depth of 80cm. I also use Windows dark mode or Flux or blue light mode on the C2 which frankly is a life saver. I switch it off for HDR or top source viewing though.

Try not to skimp on eye health, your eyes and head are prone to ill health if too close to a display or if the settings are too bright for example.

Urgh! This is far too tempting at £750ish. I'm trying to hold out for £700, which come to think about it is half price from when they launched not too long ago. Might call my local RS and see what they'll do and what their stock is looking like.

Well, I did it lol (excuse the messy desk!)

Richer Sounds price matched Costco and there’s 2 weeks price protection which should cover any Black Friday sale price drops too
Have you been able to confirm manufacture date or panel?
I've pulled the trigger with RS hoping for a WBE nervous as the guy in store didn't know there were newer panels after Q2 when I called.

Honestly no idea - if you let me know how to check I would be happy to though!

edit: Box has already gone to the tip so can't check that :D

You threw the box out  I still have my seven year old Bravia box lol
Manufacture date is the easiest that's on the label on the back bottom left under the serial No, I know some from May onwards were newer WBE

There is a Reddit page that has info on the instart link accessed via the web browser to find out info without the LG service remote not sure if I can post the link?
In the service menu of the C2 42-inch, find "Module Info 2" and the panel type will be one of the following:
WBC (old panel) = 00/00/1/03
WBE (new panel) = 08/00/1/03
