LG 42-inch OLED

I got mine setup this evening. Was a bit concerned it had been damaged in transit, as it had a deep impact mark on the box, which cut through. Sigh of relief when powering it up.

Wow, it's incredible. Series X and PS5 look stunning. My first time playing @ 120fps as well. I have mine on a 800mm deep desk and I sit back about 1.2 metres. It's not as crazy big as I was fearing and at this distance it's immersive. I haven't ran my PC through it yet, having too much fun with consoles.

The manufactured date on mine is September 2022. Panel is the newer type OLED.EX according to the latest tell tale signs. It looks great!

I bought a service remote for it, originally to check the panel but seems like that's no good for that anyways? Is there anything else the service remote can do or am I worth getting my £12 back?

You can use the service remote to switch off the ASBL by turning off GSR and TCL. May as well keep it as you never know you may want to switch them back on at some point?

I spent half an hour last night thinking that my C2 wasn't detecting HDR on Series X.. swapped HDMI cables and ports with my PS5. I finally realised that the dashboard on Series X doesn't output in HDR, whereas the PS5's dashboard does. Start a HDR game in Series X and it'll detect and switch. What a doughnut!

Glad I'm not the only numpty. LOL

Has similar occurrence with ACC on PC. ACC menus are not HDR.

Mine's just turned up.. thanks for all the setup videos etc on the previous page, that helped just set some defaults.

I did have an oddity in that I didn't have 120hz as an option in the NVidia control panel.. I tried everything (ASUS RTX3080 TUF OC) and in the found going through Windows->Display Settings and setting refresh rate there did the trick! Weird..

Just going to mess around, I can't see any dead pixels.. I did purchase the Service remote, but probably not bother just yet, unless it bothers me, I did check the panel and it starts "08" so I think that's WBE..

All going well..

Since I do use the PC for desktop use as well, I've taken the extra precautions and used the apps mentioned in the guides:
- LG Companion App - a bit fiddly, but works, took me while to figure out which step I'd missed that stopped the TV turning on via WOL.
- Using AutoHotKey and the associated macro script to allow a quick hot key for hiding/showing desktop icons.
- Autohide the taskbar, in Win 11 with dark mode on, there seems to be no remnants showing, so all good..

Issues still to sort
- For some reason my screen saver (blank screen) does not fire, so walking away for 10 minutes and coming back with the same windows open is not ideal..
- Just need to hide the desktop icons at boot, should be easy, but would save me remembering to do that.

Ideal things I haven't found solutions for yet:
1. Something that will move the desktop icons around a bit every now and again, just maybe 10 pixel radius in a circular manner, so even when on show they aren't in the same place.
2. Same for desktop windows, I don't mind if the entire window moved slowly in a 10 pixel radius or something, a pixel every minute..
3. Something that syncs the desktop icons visibility with the taskbar visibliity, maybe showing them for X seconds longer after the taskbar hides would be good.

I did look at doing a quick app to sort the above out (I stilll dabble with windows software development), but annoyingly in Windows 11, every method that previously worked for monitoring if the taskbar is visible (when set to autohide) doesn't work anymore, so not sure what to do, I'll research and may have to get creative.

It might be a personal thing, but I can't see why a bit of software behaviour would make it very difficult with desktop use to get any danger of burn. it far less worrysome for desktop use, with most apps I use having dark mode, it's mainly the text menus etc that would be the hot spots..

Other than that, very impressive, despite being fairly close, there is minimal pink tint in corners, and playing HDR games needs sunglasses on.. too uncomfortable, so will turn down the OLED brightness to make that a bit more paletable!

I cant get my LG Companion app to wake up my monitor yet. What step did you miss out please? Maybe I missed the same step

I cant get my LG Companion app to wake up my monitor yet. What step did you miss out please? Maybe I missed the same step

It was this step:
Ensure that the TV can be woken via the network. For the CX line of displays this is accomplished by navigating to Settings (cog button on remote)->All Settings->Connection->Mobile Connection Management->TV On with Mobile, and then enable 'Turn On via Wi-Fi'. For C1 and C2 it's All Settings->General->Devices->External Devices->TV On With Mobile->Turn on via Wi-Fi.

Even though I'm wired and using a static IP, I couldn't get WOL to work.. I have an android app on my phone that will send WOL packets and that didn't work either, then I spotted the above and that instantly worked.. Stupid wording making it look like it's just 'Wi-Fi'..

Surely the TV does literally this already, unless you've disabled it?

I didnt do that so that will be why mine isnt working as well! lol Thanks.

it does, and I've left it turned on, but the suggestion was
1. It messes with the resolution slightly and therefore wasn't 1:1 perfect, especially with text
2. It's quite limited in the range of movement, therefore for larger static objects it might not work as well.

I just thought an app with more scope to move things further whilst not messing with any resolution scaling etc would be worth exploring.

Had this for a few weeks now but really struggling to like 42" whilst gaming, mainly fps.

Set it to ultrawide now and on first impressions looks better to my eyes.

I've been switching between my 42" C2 and my 34" ultrawide every few days to try and make a decision. Beginning to really like the 42". Use it mainly for productivity. My 3080ti copes with 4k on it (compared to 1440p), but probably on the edge for AAA. That said, I think 21:9 1440p is about 5/8ths requirement of the 4k.

Cable arrived yesterday, works perfect, no artifact or distortion now at all. Thanks buddy :)

Really do love this screen and 42 is just perfect size for me , and the colours / blacks….. should have swapped a long time ago

Glad to hear it. I wish I had changed earlier but wasn't prepared to spend a £1000 or more on a TV for a monitor. Once they dropped to below £700 it was a no brainer.

Hello, new user here!
I recently bought the lg 42c2 and i love It as TV!
My use Is 30% TV and 70% gaming PC, so i connected to the PC and set with the reddit pinned post on OLED gaming sub.

It seems perfect BUT i noticed some tedious color banding in games.
So i tested with rtings gradient color picture and AIDA 64 monitor gradient color test!
Results seems bad to me:

The TV Is on PC mode (4k color enabled on that HDMI).
The results Is the same with:
8/10b full RGB
8/10bit 4:4:4:4
8:10bit 4:4:4:2
8:10b 4:4:2:0

Is It normal or faulty monitor/other issues?
How Is your TV? Do you noticed color gradient with these tests?
I can return/Exchange It till the end of january, so i have time.
Thank you all!
