LG 42-inch OLED

Hmm I'll think about it. There doesn't seem to be much difference between the two honestly in terms of specs - a bit brighter and 144hz vs 120hz? Not sure I'd really want to pay money for such a marginal upgrade.
So I used a 55" CX @ 120Hz gaming for years. I recently bought a 42" C4 @ 144Hz and I can absolutely feel the difference between the 2. It's just so much faster/smoother at 144hz.

I was playing Days gone and for some reason it was using 120Hz and I could feel it. I switched to 144Hz the game just felt way better.

Slightly odd question but I've got a LG 48 CX that's served me wonderfully for years. Been using it exclusively as a PC monitor, not really babied it much apart from hiding taskbar and using a black-ish wallpaper. Otherwise have had static windows (e.g. Whatsapp Desktop, Discord, Email) on screen for 10+ hours a day.

No burn in whatsoever.

The trouble is I took burn in warranty from JL when I bought it, and that expires at the end of this year.

So I'm wondering, how likely is it that I can get this wonderful monitor to burn something in over the next few months so I can claim my warranty and get a new panel, since presumably it'd just be a replacement with a new model e.g. a C4?
Dude, this is what you gonna do.
I had my 48CX for 5 years and noticed that only thing that people complain about CX series is dead pixels, as when we keep them safe by hiding taskbar etc nothing really happens.
One thing ALWAYS happens to CX - dead pixels on the edges. Check - I'm sure you have some. I had about 50 dead pixels scattered on the edges - called warranty - service came in, took it and brought back with brand new panel in it - LG has dead pixel policy and they swap it with new panel even with dead pixels on edges. I had to use macro lens to take photos of those :)
Job done.
Now I'm trying to sell my 48CX cause wanted 42", so bought it with nice promotion and now using 42C4.

How have you found the size difference going down from 48 to 42 mate?

Perfection.
For years before I got 48CX, I used Philips known 40" VA monitor. Before that, I had popular here in OCUK Hazro 32". So 40" felt great, but wanted to have some thing bigger for gaming, so when LG released CX 48" I bought it. Loved it, but problem came with time - after year of working from home, 48" was used 80% of time as desktop/work use, so standard windows apps etc where 48" was too big, I kept my windows smaller. Then LG came up with 42" OLEDs, so finally when I swapped, I felt that this is perfect size. Still, my browser for example is about 80% of the screen size, but it feels right, when I look at it, I sometimes maximise windows to 100% and feel that its fine too. When I work on my photographs, I also like to have windows on full and it feels great. 48" was 100% perfect for gaming, but not for desktop work. But I kinda knew t when getting 48, I wanted to try OLED and then wait till they get smaller. 32" is too small for me.
Mind you, I sit close to it, about 70cm face-to-screen.

Didn't know that was a common thing. My 4 year old 48CX has black dots around the edges of the screen. No burn-in though.

I did not know either! But then googled it and on Hardforum lots of people mentioned that. So yeah, it is a thing with CX. Even engineer who came in for my CX said that they dont burn in, but have dead pixels around edges. Its normally happens as some production thingy made it more frequent. I dont know but maybe when they cut the panels out of mother-glass.

Ahhh Hazro! That takes me back :D

This is actually unbelievable. I just did a dead pixel check, and lo and behold - dozens of tiny dead black pixels around the edges of the screen. I hadn't noticed a single one in all of these years. The question is whether they can still replace the panel with a new CX one 5 years down the line? Was your warranty with D&G as well via JL?

I've got none at all on my CX but it was burnt in so got replaced for that instead, friend has a 55" C8 and that has quite a few dead pixels but out of warranty so on his own to buy a new TV...
Contact JL , I imagine the screen will get written off under their normal warranty rather than the extra burn in protection warranty and they should offer you a screen of similar spec or a voucher for a new screen at least.

Great shout.
Contacted JL this afternoon and they're getting an engineer sent out to inspect it.
Will update based on how it goes. Looking online this seems to be a common CX issue with dead pixels around the edge of the panel. Wonder how anyone notices these things in day to day usage though unless you go looking for them!

Well, I'm glad I told you all about it here and now you all can get a nice CX replacement for free :D

Those pixels are never seen during regular usage, they sit on edges of the panels, but as any dead pixel - they tend to spread with time.
You dont have to prove that your usage is affected - simply, LG has this policy that dead pixels need to be replaced - so that is cool way to refresh your TV after years of use.

Mine was bought at Richer Sounds with their 6 years warranty and mine was replaced after over 5 years.

Probably be like mine was and in a few days they will contact you saying they are writing it off as initially they said they are sending a technician round to mine ... I assume the CX panels are no longer being produced which is why they just write them off . As mentioned they offered me a few options and replacements and even offered me a 83" C2 which I turned down , they then offered me a C4 in 77" for free and also the option of a voucher which I took for £2200, ended up putting another £2300 to that and getting a G5 after considering what to get ...

Funny enough my mate with the C8 didn't notice his dead pixels until I showed him the screen burn on mine with the YT test and he then done the same test on his which is when he noticed quite a few dead pixels but until that point didn't notice them .

Keep us informed what the outcome is on this .

The G5 models have 165hz so might be worth waiting another year and seeing if that comes to the C models

I've been itching to pull the trigger on a C4 for a monitor since looking at the 32" LG dual mode monitors. I'd love 240/480hz but I realised after stepping down from 165hz to 144hz, I've not missed it at all, and I think right now I'd rather have the size to run UHD at 100% scaling rather than 240/480hz.

Just to check there's no difference between the C4 and C5 in this regard? Both 144hz? C4 seems to be a steal right now.

Perhaps the improved feel also be due to reduced latency on the newer C4?

I doubt it really, latency was already really low on the CX. Unless there's been a step change in input latency?

Both 144Hz :)

Yes mate. I have gone for the C4. At the price its the best option available
