LG 48CX OLED - 4K 120 Hz

Finally caved and ordered the 48" to pair up with my 3080. What are the best suggestions to avoid image retention? Will be using it for browsing etc as well as gaming.

Brightness is the most important. I've always preferred a low brightness for work/general web browsing, so mostly use the energy saving "maximum" for web browsing and productivity. HDR game? Energy saving to off. RTS/MMO type? Energy saving to minimum.

That's just me though, I use the energy saving modes as brightness controls (as that's exactly what it adjusts). You can instead use OLED brightness numbers to do the same thing.

I have one arriving at the weekend. I want to get prepared so can anyone answer the following.

1. Is there a hdmi 2.1 cable included?
2. I've never wall mounted a TV but I will do with this I would like a fixed wall mount but with a bit of side movement so I can get it exactly in line with my desk. Any suggestions?

Definitely no cable included. Not sure about 2).

For cable, you can get the Kabeldirekt Ultra HD cable: https://www.amazon.co.uk/KabelDirek...h+speed+hdmi+cable&qid=1610478501&sr=8-2&th=1.

Note they also have a certified cable now, but it's the identical cable and sold out everywhere.

I have a JL price match for the 48CX at £1279.

Might wait for the 48C1 instead though as the 48CX has a problem with fluctuating gamma in VRR mode which according to HDTVTest cannot be fixed as it's a hardware problem.

I think the LG 42" OLED is going to be released either late this year or in 2022.

Exact same thoughts as me in every regard. Also got a price match with JL but not sure. Haha.

That's all good info but you both only mention the OLED light but miss out on Contrast, Brightness setting level when lowering the light mode. The isf Expert (dark room) oled light is set to 35 but contrast is 85 and brightness is 50

Not sure I'm following! Those two affect your black and white levels and shouldn't be touched.

I think aorus is discussing not crushing the blacks which happens when you get the wrong black and contrast settings or change too much other settings, I tend to go with the defaults for starters or first time users but it is worth tweaking the brightness and contrast settling once you are comfy.

I use these contrast and brightness slides here:
Brightness:

Contrast:

This way you can make sure you display the correct levels of brightness and contrast and not lose any details in shadows.

Thanks pal, just been checking out that stand, please let me know how you get on. I'm thinking of wall mounting but that looks a good alternative. My desk is 60cm deep. Sure I read people suggest using dynamic backgrounds? Any suggestions where to look? Mine is due for delivery tomorrow :)

Wall mounting is heaven, once you do it you wont ever look at stands again. And the amount of space you save its crazy good you get your desk back again even when you wipe and clean the dust of your desk its just easier.

Your CX looks much cleaner and elegant when its pushed back against the wall and sitting almost flush since you save all the space behind it, I just use some plastic trunking from screwfix or toolstation the cheap stuff like tenner for 2-3 metres worth and it hides all the cable just get as thick trunking as you can or double it up since hdmi cables are thick and you may end up with 4 of them in future + any other cables, always plan for 15 cables even mines 80cm wide trunking (2x40mm trunking thick).

With a 60cm depth desk the more stronger gain to get wall mount you need every inch between you and the desk, I struggle with 80cm depth and reckon 1.2metre would be better or a nice LG 42" OLED hopefully due this fall.

Still choice is yours, wall mounting requires patience and some brain work with DIY you need the right wall or plasterboard anchors and recommended to fit into a stud within the plasterboard wall if not going into a brick, I used a cardboard cut out shape of my 48CX to measure where it would hang on the wall, hung with drawing pins.

Most are fine and allow you to move left to right, you wont always prefer the exact position naturally but you probably will only get a good 1-2 inches left or right. Make sure the height and position of the wall mount is correct this is vital. Check my post above with my cardboard cut out trick and other info.

Id recommend still you do need to be DIY good, a drill helps and there is a difference if its brick wall then you are fine, plasterboard....then its bit more tricky but not impossible.

Once you go wall mount you don't go back ;)

Where does it say 30 days, can't see it mentioned in the price promise email ( I did it for a test run). I would have imagined they price match it according to stock and price at time of purchase.

Still it doesn't appear LG are in a rush to roll out a 42inch OLED just yet, linus and few other ytubers showed the G1 in the flesh and rest all looked CGI mock ups or just cig pics, if they or anyone else had a 42inch OLED in the flesh and up and running then that would be totally different. Wild guesstimate reckon fall 2021 or early 2022 and hopefully its not something insane like a PRO screen for gamers/editors that cost 2K !

My power drill is charged and my spirit level looked out watched a few YouTube videos on measurements, my wall is plaster board but I've been knocking it and have found batons but if I drill through and it's hollow I'm sure using toggle or expanding fixings will be fine as looking at the information from lg the screen is only 15kg.

You need to find at least one decent set of fixings (wood). They will be 500-600mm apart which will fall within the width of the bracket easily. Don't rely on plasterboard fixings alone, this is a heavy TV.

I agree with Dirk, its still good you found the wooden studs behind the plasterboard if you see this video here you should be able to use a small star long screwdriver or nail or screw to do the trick to find the centre of the wooden stud:

https://youtu.be/Os4t038dWp4?t=491

Good to still watch entire video, but he found the middle of the wooden stud which is what you want to drive those solid wood screws into that come with the wall mounts you dont want to miss driving the screw into the side and no solid wood area.

I used that special plasterboard stud magnet to find my wooden studs, just couldn't find them so you done well there to locate them your half way there really.

I use also these: Toggler-25029-SnapToggler-Anchor-Silver from rainforest for 12.66 quid

this guy shows how to install them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MQ2O7c8BSDY

I only managed to get 2 screws into the wooden stud, if you can try and get more its better, I also did 7 togglers, so 9 very strong bolts going into my thick plasterboard so I sleep fine at night, this thing should hold an elephant :)
