LG 48CX OLED - 4K 120 Hz

I think aorus is discussing not crushing the blacks which happens when you get the wrong black and contrast settings or change too much other settings, I tend to go with the defaults for starters or first time users but it is worth tweaking the brightness and contrast settling once you are comfy.

I use these contrast and brightness slides here:
Brightness:

Contrast:

This way you can make sure you display the correct levels of brightness and contrast and not lose any details in shadows.

Does it actually work on your PC as those are limited values. I guess you can set your TV to Low then view them? I’ll have to test later.

Note however that many people have agreed on 50/85 as being correct. I measured it myself with dedicated test patterns as well. 50 brightness gives the perfect reference black. 85 contrast correctly preserves whiter than white values. There’s no reason to mess with these IMO. Only exception is DV where you can try lowering brightness by 1 to help with raised blacks.

About right thanks, Some websites recommend the OLED light should be turn down between 60/85 but member on this thread recommend it to be 30/35 but if you lower the OLED light on the TV to 35 what setting do you adjust Contrast number to/not, so for a test I lowed the OLED light to 30 but the picture in gamers look dull it look like someone pull out my TV light then I change it to 35 a little better but not right for me, so I turn it back to 50 OLED light and my games in my eyes look just about right now, 65/100 is too bright needing sunglasses in games lol.

My setting
Picture mode Gamer (User) 50 OLED light, Contrast 75 brightness 50.

Ok that is interesting mine was slightly off and crushing the blacks and whites so both brightness and contrast needed slight adjustment think it was 48 and 86 it was like that on each source also, I noticed different values per source were required for myself, lucky the CX saves it per source.

I would have imagined each panel being different and unique so taking those base line settings may not work on each tv set and it didn't for myself at least.

I have PC set to RGB and full dynamic and TV black level set to HIGH

Another good test is here:

If 50/85 worked for you with those test then you are ok and don't need to mess with anything, id still recommend its worth a check per source.

Yeah many prefer to notch up the OLED brightness, I think 35 is bright enough for pitch black room users for film/movie playback with filmmaker mode but its probably not going to work as well during day time watching or gaming, I know many that like 50 OLED also so its your preference with OLED light and picture mode settings naturally.

Yes everyone to there own preferences, 50 works ok in day time but not low light/darkroom that I have so I just turn down to 45 OLED light now and keep testing it to find a good balance between day and night gaming as for movies/streaming HDR I leave it in default mode I don't watch movies at night.

Indeed and that is why if you use a (decent) calibration device they take account of the ambient light. I have calibrated my monitor for both daylight and evening use and switch between the two depending when I am using my pc.

Just a random rumor. I doubt we'll see a 3080Ti until next summer / fall though. 3090 is such a colossal waste of money. Nvidia messed up big time on it. They should have put only 16GB on it and sold it for 999 to 1099. I have no idea why they put so much GDDR on it as a gaming card, which raised the price substantially. Now the best top end is going to be the 6900XT which will cost 999 and by all accounts performs better than the 3090.

I see this random rumour hasn't punched you in the face yet. :)

I had pretty much decided to move to the 3080ti because by the time it released I would have had around a year's use of my 3080 and resale would have made it feasible. However, having used the 3080 with the 48CX I'm not even sure an upgrade is required until the 40 series. The 3080 is a perfect match for this screen and perfectly pitched in general which is why it's constantly sold out, I actually wouldn't be surprised if we never see a 3080ti.

I agree regarding the 3090 also, I just can't see the attraction for gaming other than the fact it's actually available which probably tells it's own story.

Just got my CX 48" today, really impressed. Few things to ask, what's the consensus on windows HDR? I know it used to be poor is that still the case? I play a lot of Warzone and guessing I need it ON to use HDR in the game? Also noticed whilst it was on and nvidia geforce experience was recording clips (in HDR I presume) it won't let me play the kills back? Is there a specific HDR setting for recordings using GF experience?

Any settings advice would great!

I've also made it so the taskbar isn't visible and removed desktop icons to help minimise burn in. Any other suggestions would be welcome!

I ordered the 55CX a couple of days before that offer came in on the 48! It's pretty massive (but great for TV/films) so should have probably waited a couple of days and got a 48! :p One thing I have tried which seems to work well in shooters is running it in an ultra wide custom resolution of 3840x1600@120Hz :)

Ah :) thought custom resolutions only worked at 60hz, nice!
