LG 48CX OLED - 4K 120 Hz

1080TI can only do GSync over DP, I believe you need a Turing card or newer (for Nvidia at least) to get it over HDMI like for the OLED VRR.

Ta, knew were some caveats around forum VRR/ G-Sync compatibility etc hence initial question. Knew way back when I had my 1080Ti with the C9 it did not play ball, but not sure if it changed with newer models CX / C1, but as you point out, is more a limit on the GPU side of things in this case.

Unfortunately G-sync / Freesync / VRR is pretty useless with LG OLED in dark games with near-black colors because of flickering. It's extremely annoying so I would rather see screen tearing or lower graphics quality/resolution and use Vsync plus limit FPS by RTSS at 119.99 fps (or 119.87 if the screen is set to 119.88 refresh rate).

That will be an instant buy for me. Still on the large size but much easier to manage 42" than 48" as a desktop screen.

One day we will get what we want a 32"OLED that can do everything a C1/CX can do it's just a matter of time.

Yeah, though I'm not sure I can wait so I'd be strongly tempted by the 42" one next year. And after that it would be very difficult to return to a smaller panel. First world problems and all that.

31" LG OLED was slated for 2022 originally at least according to LG talk, but you can see from that new link above LG wants to add the 42" into the 2022 LG OLED refreshes, so C2 or whatever series name it is.

I wont be shocked if LG puts the 31" oled in the 2023 line up, I think they prefer to give more time for the market to jump onto their existing and easier to make panels.

Still ill be getting the 42" OLED and also 31" down the road both will be worth it.

Yeap, instant buy here too. Had my CX48 since June 2020, absolutely love it, will use it right up to receiving the 42" version (named c2 42 I guess).

Probably many months before release, would hate to be using anything other than 4k 120hz OLED in the meantime.

But which kind of 31" OLED? JOLED or the ones actually from LG? If JOLED, then I'm definitely not interested. I had two JOLED monitors and both have been returned the next day because Asus one has a terrible quality-control and Eizo Foris Nova was the best but not good either because both lacks flicker-free technology. They caused me severe issues like eyes and vision fatigue and fatiguing headache. LG also announced 32" OLED monitors but they are from JOLED and reviewers have stated it's not flicker-free certified. If LG would release 32" OLED manufactured by their own department, then insta-buy for sure.

I need no bigger then a 32" OLED for PC gaming :(:(:(

Neither do I really but will accept 42" OLED. I used to have a 40" screen, 2" is neither here or there. It wont be much wider than my current 38" UW screen is, just taller.

In fact its 1.6" wider and 5.6" taller. Basically if you are happy with a 38" UW screen, this wont seem any bigger (well girth wise anyway)

And if you still like the UW view and to give extra performance you can always run an UW res on it. The black bars will at least be properly black.

What are people's experiences with this flickering? Is it that bad?

Picked this up yesterday at Costco. Using it as my main tv due small living room but going to hook it up to my pc this week to see if I can use it as my monitor.

It was patched out ages ago...wasnt it?
Unfortunately no. Last firmware on my C1 and the problem is still there.

You can set a portion of the screen to be displayed in the center with black bars on all the sides when gaming. If reducing 48" to 32" it will be 2560x1440 resolution. You can set ultrawide 3840x1600 or 3840x1440 so it will be as tall as 32" screen but with extra horizontal field of view which is very nice. I really love 48" 4K screen because it's extremely versatile and allows me to choose any resolution, format and size according to a particular game or controller type. You can play with keyboard and mouse and sit at about 75 cm with 32" or ultrawide settings or play with a gamepad and lean back with your eyes to be at 100-150 cm and you would likely prefer full 48" in that case.

Neither do I but otherwise we would be waiting very long and it's not even for sure LG 32" OLED will be a reality. I mean, the 48" was released the first time in 2020 and then 2 years later the 42". However, LG perfectly understands a lot of customers will grab the 42" for PC and console gaming on their desk including me.

And considering how messed up the gaming GPU's industry has become, I won't even bother for a GPU upgrade in like 2-3 years. I only play GTAV and The Crew 2 anyway and who knows I'll upgrade to W10 to finally get to play Forza Horizan 4 and 5.

It probably wont be that JOLED stuff, these will be with the 2022 LG oled series so marketed mainly for TV use, some people around the AV community do feel though the 31" oled might be more gamer positioned and might end up an gamer price tag, hopefully not.

Best guess would be 31" oleds come out 2023 so it gives LG enough time to market and sell the 42" oled which probably will be much more popular since it fits into bedrooms and most desk at least.

Using one on a desk, looks great but its too big - 42 or 48 would be a lot better for me I think :p
If you can sit a bit further back would be fine as even lounging back on my chair and watching TV or playing something with a pad is fine that way.

I would be weary of 42" oled even on the desk to be fair, its a mammoth size screen for PC use, id be blinded by it really, could see headaches and eye strains being the norm, and I am roughly 1.2 metres back with a very deep desk.

Really do wish LG if they are delaying it, might as well offer the 31" oled with the 2022 line up, but that is wishful thinking, LG appear to want to milk and profit from each product in steps almost.

I hear the 48inch is too big for desktop so a 55/65 must be way over the top but it not, it all down to personal taste I game on my 55CX and I personally don't find it way too big for a desktop coming from a 42inch I got use to it and wouldn't change it size if I had more space I go for a 65C1 gaming and movies like my friends have I sit 7ft away because it's soo sharp @4K IQ & Dolby vision it's the best OLED I own and won't be my last, nothing can compare with an OLED for now that is:)

Well a 42C2 OLED will be 6inch less then a 48CX/C1 so eye strain wouldn't too bad unless the user sit too close it will be the same problem for a 32C3 OLED so going back to smaller screens is not the right move for LG imo, you sit 1.2m from your 48CX so bigger the screen size you sit way back with less headaches and eye strain is the right move. But again it's down to personal taste.

Well the 1080Ti does have G-sync, heck PG348Q I am typing this on with the 1080Ti has G-sync working for years, how long you been around computers ;) What it may not have is G-Sync compatibility / or have forum VRR caveats with OLED's hence the question :)

What I said was right about the 1080TI I wasn't talk about DP port nor did I mention it, when I replied I was talking about HDMI and as you know with C9/CX there is only HDMI ports on the OLED The option to enable G-sync is absent from the control panel when you plug in a HDMI cable, so a 1080TI is limited to just DP also 18gbps 2.0a/b HDMI 8bit but can still run and OLED CX/C1 @4K 120hz 4.2.0 (you won't do a consistent 120hz in all games) and without VRR & G-sync only an RTX3080/90 2.1 HDMI can, also you are limited again with the RTX2080TI it have the same 2.0a/b HDMI port
