LG DM2780D 27" 3D monitor

Well just come off the phone to them and getting fobbed off again, 3 weeks since purchase and still they cant give a straight answer. What I cant understand is that a company as large as LG cant get glasses out to customers in the uk, the catleap thread has people having monitors delivered from korea in 3-5 days. Has anyone had any luck with watchdog?

I've had three active 3D displays (1 x Samsung TFT Monitor, 1 x BenQ TFT Monitor and a Samsung 46" LED) and I wouldn't have another if you paid me.

Now that I've tried Passive (LG 46" LED and this one) I'd never have another active. Not even if you paid me. MUCH better
Having just received my Samsung S23A700D, I can honestly say the 3D on it is equally as good as my 42" Passive LG Tv. But comparing them is not doing justice to either as already mentioned. I haven't watched anything on the LG that's converted 2D - 3D yet but tried Modern Warfare 3 and Rfactor last night on my Samsung and the quality was really good. Not sure what the fps were but my system handled it really well running with settings maxed, @120hz.
My system ..
Phenom 2x4 965BE @ 3.4ghz
G-skill Ripjaws 12gb
Sapphire HD6870
Corsair 120gb SSD
You can definitely notice the difference in fps when playing in 3D but with me it only added to the games effectiveness.

I was all for jacking this monitor in and getting the catleap, but after owning the 27" Hazro I don't think 1440p is ready for me yet. Don't want to take the fps hit at that resolution so sticking with 1080p for now.

anyway, as I was looking at replacements I get an email from LG saying that they have posted my glasses today. We'll see :)

I hope I get an e-mail soon saying my glasses have been sent. The LG spare parts web site still showing out of stock so i am not getting my hopes up.

This is what i have done with a pair of the Real D 3D glasses you get from the cinema. It gets rid of the purple ghosting effect but they are uncomfortable as ****.

Well i must be chatting to idiots since the 27th march then, the idiots need to get thier act together. Not in the best moods today with ocuk either by not altering stock levels and giving assurances of dispatching today. think the gadget show has stopped common sense, well one email to ocuk and verbal abuse to lg will make my day tomorrow. going back to my sick bed

Well, if they initially sent out two packs of glasses to everyone, like they did for myself, I can see why they would run out.

So glad I have a spare set.

Can't believe people are still struggling with LG on this matter. Though it does seem LG may be more aware of the issue now at least.

And to think, I am still going to try out the 1080p IPS 3D screens when they come out :)

when are they coming out as I'll also get one

IMPORTANT UPDATE

Just been home at lunch and Mr Postman has delivered my replacement 3D glasses :D They are very different from the Cinema glasses. Not just the lenses, but the frames are also different (not as nice)

anyway, I was really happy until I fired up a 3D Movie, and then a 3D game.

CROSSTALK!!!!!!!!!

This monitor is TERRIBLE at 3D. Seriously, I'm not joking. If you sit BANG ON so your eyes are EXACTLY dead centre the crosstalk is worse than a 2010 Samsung 3D LCD. Move out of this dead zone and it's just double image everywhere.

I've had LOTS of 3D TVs and Monitors and I have never seen anything so bad. No wonder LG changed the FPR.

JOKE!!!! Thanks heavens I bought it from the jungle place as I can return it without paying postage charges.

Now on the lookout for another monitor.

STAY AWAY FROM THIS MODEL!!!!!!!

I agree with you glen, with my 'modified real D' glasses, which should be the same as the ones you have been sent, I get crosstalk if i sit level with the middle of the screen. I actually sit lower than my monitor so i am looking up slightly at the monitor and at that angle it seems perfect with no signs, for me, of any crosstalk. So for me I won't have a problem but for 99% of people who sit at a desk in a normal position = do not buy the D2342

I have just sent LG another e-mail asking when my glasses are going to be sent (i can't believe I am still having to ask for them).

@glen8-kingy666 how far away are you from the monitor what size is it?
I wonder why it's good for some people and rubbish for others

I sit normal distance, 2ft probably. Just your run of the mill computer desk.

It's the 23" model so it's not as if I'm sat too close. However, I've now read that this monitor needs to be at a 20 degree angle for 3D to work (basically you tilt the monitor back so the top is 3" further away than the bottom).

I sit much further away than glen8 does, i must be at least 3ft/1m away and my eyes are level with about 2" up from the bottom of the screen.

Glen, any chance of a picture of the glasses you recieved. I am a bit sad to hear they are not the same design as the white LG cinema 3D ones I got as they seemed really comfortable. I wear glasses and they seemed to fit perfectly inside those LG cinema glasses. But, the real D glasses you get in the cinema are awful so i hope they are not like those ones.

EDIT: DEUSE, just to let you know me and glen8 both have the D2342 monitor (23") and not the M2780D (27") that is the title of this thread

i emailed lg today and they rang me back saying im on a list same as other people i was making sure i wernt fobbed off last week but they couldnt give me a certain date id have them by but in all honesty for watching films if i sit quite far back the 3d is quite good so its far from unuseable and as a 2 d monitor its exelant but i do think they should compensate us all in some way

I'll get a photo tonight after work

they are black, and quite thin. To be honest, they don't feel as nice when you put them on, and I had quite bad reflections on either side.

ok, well I played around with sitting at various distances, moved the monitor up/down/tilted back and forth

If you set the depth to far back, you get crosstalk at the front and vice/versa. There is no way of getting this monitor crosstalk free I'm afraid.

It's AWFUL
