LG DM2780D 27" 3D monitor

I sit normal distance, 2ft probably. Just your run of the mill computer desk.

It's the 23" model so it's not as if I'm sat too close. However, I've now read that this monitor needs to be at a 20 degree angle for 3D to work (basically you tilt the monitor back so the top is 3" further away than the bottom).

I had the same experience with the 27" DM2780D and returned it for a refund. I won't touch another LG, they have by far the worst 3D computer monitors! None of the active 3D monitors I tried had ghosting this severe and the passive 3D is supposed to have less crosstalk.

The cinema 3D TVs have zero crosstalk (I have one). Unfortunately their monitors are not so good. I have now decided to give up on 3D and ordered the 27" IPS catleap :-)

I think i may return my monitor too and get one of the samsung 120hz monitors as at least with that monitor you got the added bonus of the 120Hz gaming. Plus the colours on that monitor are supposed to be really good.

Going to see what I have to do to return this to the rainforest. What we be the best reason for return - faulty product?

I ordered the samsung 120hz as well mate but then decided to cancel. Too late now so have to refuse the DPD delivery.

That's got issues as well I'm afraid. Typical active 3D, headaches, eye strain, not very 3D, too dark, blah blah blah Brought back memories of the 2333Z and BenQ. Not worth it mate.

Plus the games all have issues, even with profiles they still ain't right

Well its packed away in its box and yodel have been contacted to pick it up tomorrow. I don't know what to do now I may just stick to my single 23" ips screen and wait to see what comes out in the next 12 months. I now have to wait to get my money back from the rainforrest.

I would love to take a chance on a catleap but then i would have to try and sell my 23" ips monitor as i do not want 2 monitors with different size screens and resolutions next to each other. With my luck i would receive a faulty catleap so i think i will leave that option for now.

Best of luck to you Glen8 and remember LG's motto = LIFES GOOD

Fair play, the Samsung Is being painted as a really bad monitor, I didn't buy mine for films as we have the 42" LG for that, I didn't even buy it for 3D, I bought it for the 120hz gaming and I have another Samsung (2233BW) set up for normal desktop stuff, as it's been a real good monitor over he last 3 years. The reason this stood out over others was the price, £166 after the VAT return is pretty cheap for a monitor of this quality. I have no stuck pixels and all the games I have work Fine in 3D, just adjust the 'lean back 1' option and it's easily bright enough Believe me if there was a problem I would be one of the 1st to return it but I think this monitor is getting way too much bad publicity.

Really can't see image quality problems on mine, and I am generally fussy on such things.

Things I have found that can make things look really bad when using 3D is having the sharpness up too high or enabling morphological AA in catalyst control centre.

Beware of anything that does post processing.

So how many of us are going to send it back then. with a pc over hdmi it is deffo 5ns response isnt it? well will have to set mine back up ehen i get back from my ***** caravan hols. i just wanna know how good it is on fps games like tf2 cs and css in 2d.

At least im happ with mine. seems people are to fussy nowadays. Its not 300f monitor. For me its 2d+3d not other way around :D
All my mates that playd bf3 and skyrim in 3d say its awesome and wish they had one srsly !!!!

Fussy has nothing to do it, the monitor has extreme ghosting and it's a major problem! Maybe you got lucky or you have a different model. I personally tried 2 of the DM2780D monitors and they both had major ghosting problems which made it impossible to even use the 3D feature.

just so people know the monitor is spot on if youve got the correct glasses the problem is lg sent the wrong ones out in the boxes with some if not all im waiting on my replacements but for just over 250 quid for a 3d monitor is not very expensive and the 23 inch one is about 130 so apart from that is it a good monitor i think its a beast

Well I can only comment on the 23" one which is rubbish because you have to have the screen at an angle so it will be tilted back at the top. No problem, you may think, BUT because it has a TN screen as soon as you tilt it back the colour goes terrible and the screen is dark at the top. I tried to fool myself into thinking it wasn't that bad but at the end of the day it was a rubbish 3D experience for me. I suppose if you are buying this to be your only monitor to use as a 2D monitor and just use the 3D function 'once in a blue moon' then it may not be such a problem but if you wanted it to just use 3D then get something better.

I have only had monitors with IPS or MVA screens in the last 5 years and going back to a TN with the LG D2342P was a big mistake. I will be waiting for 3D IPS panels before I try 3D again. Having an LG IPS235 next to a LG D2342P really did show how bad the washed out colours were on the D2342 (i could not get the whites any where near white!).

That statement is 100% false in my experience because I did receive the correct 3D monitor glasses from LG and the 3D ghosting was extremely bad! This monitor is NOT cheap in Canada, I paid $678 for the DM2780D, which is approximately 427 quid! It has the worst 2D and 3D display of any 27" monitor I've tried and they were all TN monitors not IPS.

What's it like compared to the 2233bw? I have a 226BW that has served me well and wondered if it was much of an upgrade or if to stick a bit longer?.

well that is why u dont like your monitor... Your used 2 ips color quality and all . u cant blame lg 3d monitor you can blame all tn monitors in that case....

Ah, I didn't realise all 3D monitors had to be tilted back for the 3D to work!
Why don't passive 3D TV's need to be tilted back?
Surely LG could make a passive 3D monitor that can be viewed from a position that is level with your eyes without getting massive ghosting/crosstalk.

It's not really the fact that I own IPS/MVA monitors it is just the fact that you can't use the 3D with your eyes level with the middle (or above) of the screen. I think if I buy a 3D monitor I should be able to view 3D games/films/pictures AND be able to view it while sitting with my eyes level with the middle of the screen because having to have the screen tilted back means that the TN panel does not function correctly as the top of the screen goes very dark. If it could be viewed from a normal angle I would have kept it

Now, if this 3d monitor (LG D2342P) had an IPS panel I would not have had this problem as an IPS panel has far greater viewing angles than a TN panel so viewing it from slightly below to get rid of any ghosting/crosstalk would not be a problem as the top of the screen would not look any darker. Sometimes you have to think 'why is it cheaper than other 3D monitors' and that is because the quality is a bit rubbish.

Not all 3D monitors have to be tilted back to reduce the ghosting. The Samsung T27A950 and S27A950 don't have to be tilted at all, but they're active 3D and not passive.
